My story is not so different than most but with an added wild card to my quit. I've dipped skoal finecut wintergreen for about 34 years. I have always used smaller dips so they would be less noticeable but was rarely without a dip during any given moment throughout the day. A can would usually last around 5 days which seems to be unusual. I tried to quit a couple of years ago but failed miserably. My wife really wanted me to quit but I wasn't ready. Last month on February 18 I went to the clinic due to my persistent cough. The physician's assistant read on a patient form where I had circled that I used smokeless tobacco. She asked for my can and I gave it to her. She threw it away and told me to never chew again. I was stunned. Normally, I would have laughed in her face and told her mind her own damn business. I didn't do that. In fact, I felt relieved for some reason. I cant explain it. I just felt ready to quit this crap before it killed me. My wife was thrilled and stunned. What makes my quit a little different is that I'm a cancer survivor who is still on quite a few meds. I'm also in quite a bit of pain so I never really feel good. The first 5 days I was a sweaty mess. Then I didn't have hardly any withdrawal symptoms. I had bought some Smoky Mountain and everything was going well. Then after about 2 weeks I became pretty irritable and really wanted a dip of skoal badly. I have been surfing this website and thanks to you all...I didn't give in. Not now not ever!! I'm done! So many of you have had much worse withdrawal symptoms than me because I noticed that my daily meds helped alleviate some of the withdrawal symptoms. I'm 40 days in to my quit but have a feeling I will need support to fight off the urge to dip again. Thanks for listening!

Welcome to KTC Como... Great job with that quit already. You may want to head over to May 2017 topic/30137057/ (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/30137057/) ... pretty sure that would be your 'group'. We "organize" (if you want to call it that) by our quit date. That way you can get to know others that are in the same boat/quit timeframe that you are.
If you haven't already, check out "What to Expect" (https://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/what-to-expect-when-you-quit-dipping/) ... Being on day 40, you got through some of the really hard stuff, but there are definitely what I called "Mind Fuck" days coming up. Be ready, and be prepared.
You got this, Quit Strong

I see you made it over to that fine May 17 quit group. You should stick around in there and post this in there. You will not find better support anywhere.

Thanks Gentgeen. My quit has not gone like I envisioned at all. I was very lucky that I felt pretty decent the first 3 weeks aside from sweating like a crazy man the first 5 days. I read all of the horror stories and shit became very real the end of the 3rd week. Irritability, big cravings, strange mouth sores. I knew the oral fixation was gonna be key for me. I have all kinds of smoky mountain and cowboy coffee chew....and it still sucks! I may have just joined but I was reading this website every day since I quit. It has been a HUGE life saver. Thanks. I cant post roll from work but this evening I most certainly will (May 2017).
