Hello, I woke up yesterday and saw the news about Jim Kelley and decided to quit. I just turned 33 and I've been dipping since I was 14-15. I went out out bought the mint "fake" snuff. It seems to be working alright.

Congratulations on your decision to quit. I am quitting with you; day 4 for me.
The Vets will fill you in on what you should/need to do- listen to them and go one day at a time!

Good, I feel a little lost but I'm excited about quitting. I didn't get much sleep last night. Any one else have this problem?

Brilliant decision to quit bro. Fear is a good motivator no? 15ish years is a long time to dip... I did it for 25. During this time we seriously messed up our bodies and brains with nicotine. Expect some crap to be a little haywire at first. Not gonna lie... The first 3 or 4 days are not going to be fun. Hang tough! 3 days is what it takes to get that poison out of your system. After that... Head games. You have 15 years of an addicts dependency to rewire. Get yerself up to the "Welcome Center" in the banner at the top of the page. Read about your quit group, what posting roll is, and why we do it. It's a lot to take in... Your life just changed for the better man! If you need anything shoot me a PM. I'll be happy to help and... I'll quit with you today!

Ace, you will have several nights of screwed up sleep---I noticed that it was heaviest for the first 3 nights. You made the right decision by quitting. Now you need to start posting roll and making the daily commitment. Keep yourself busy, hydrate yourself, and start working out if you don't already...you have a lot of support here so reach out if you are struggling.

You will have several problems to deal with for a while friend. You see,, for umpteen years you have been feeding your brain poison. Now since you have stopped your brain in now starting to get the proper amount of oxygen you were depriving it of. Your brain also has a lot of healing to do. Sleep is one thing the brain does not want to do for a couple weeks. I heard melatonin helps, but i just white knuckled it and survived. After your brain heals you will sleep like a free man that was enslaved for umpteen years.
I recommend you read and read. Learn everything you can about nicotine withdrawal. It will make the battle a lot easier. Knowing your enemy is half the battle. I quit with you man. One day at a time.. You can do this.

Ace,
Everyone is different, but your off to a great start. I couldn't sleep very well for the first 2 weeks. Some people sleep great, some don't. Some are constipated -- I shit like a Clydsdale. Some people lose the urge to dip after a week, some after 2 weeks - me - closer to 80. Still have the urge at times, but a lot less frequent and the good news is I sleep better than ever, have more energy, more money, more clarity and more pride.
It will get better if you can keep from being a pussy and caving. When you get pissed, go to live chat, or text someone and chew their asses. I chewed a lot of different people out on this site -- called them liars, told them they were phony and this site just took it -- be a prick to us, not your family. Proud to be quit with you today.

Ace you already got some awesome advice below. Post roll then keep your word. It's how the site works, accountability. Your post on roll is a promise, your word to all of us that you will not use nicotine in any form all day. You will be posting in September. Once you post you become a bad ass quitter. Can't wait to see you post roll dude! I will quit with you.

Someone already said it "we are all different". However one thing we are all exactly the same in this journey, we quit one day at a time! Your on day 2, I'm on day 430 and we both do the same thing each morning: get up and post a promise to a bunch of total strangers that we won't use nicotine today. It may seem strange to you that we still post roll everyday after 1 or more years. I still post roll for 3 reasons, 1st I'm a weak ass addict that realizes that one time would put me back into slavery, 2nd the brotherhood here works two ways I have a great support group that holds me accountable and I'm here to help anyone that wants my support and finally I post roll to remain free. After 4 decades of slavery to nicotine 430 days of freedom feels so damn good that I will do whatever it takes to keep my freedom. I consider myself a revolutionary solider , that's right I'm fighting for my freedom daily. Pm me if you need anything.

The Jim Kelly story surely sucks but please tell me more why you want to quit.
You've been dipping for 18 years, there has to be more than just the Jim Kelly news that got you to put the tin down and join this site, which was a very smart move by the way.
I ask this not to be a dick, but because you need not quit for Jim Kelly , you need to quit for YOU and YOU only.
Jim Kelly is a good eye opener that springboarded you here, but please tell us why you REALLY want to quit, and what will keep you here when the shit hits the fan. Because Jim Kelly alone will not. This I know to be a fact.
Damn. Feels like Im saying "Jim Kelly" a lot.
Anyway, please tell us more. Show me some "want" if you don't mind.
Thanks.
Jim Kelly.

As much as I hate to say it, diesel is right about that...my first real attempt to quit was last year when i read a story about Tony Gwynn having a tumor wrapped around a nerve in his face that essentially caused the right side of his face to be paralyzed. I was just divorced at the time so that was really my only motivation to quit, but low and behold i was smoking a half a pack of smokes a day or more until i fell back into dipping again. You see, unless Jim Kelly is you (which would be kind of cool) or if he is your dad or something like that, you'll forget about Jim Kelly on a bad day and pick up the can real quick.
Quit on man...

Well, "Jim Kelley" only started the fire... I'm 33 and I have already been dipping for about 18 yrs. I want to be around to see my kids grow. I have a 5yr old boy and a 2yr old daughter and I want to set the example for them. I don't want to be one of those parents that tells them not to do something then turn around and do it myself. It would drive me crazy if I was diagnosed with cancer and it was because I did it to myself. So, now I'm beginning my 4th day and I'm gonna quit today! Thanks for the support and your right I will need all of you!
