Title: Quitting - 13 days in
Post by: DaveVT on March 23, 2011, 06:45:00 PM
Hey guys.

Thanks for letting me join your group.

I haven't dipped as long as some you by dipping for just 14 months, but it's 14 months too long. I'm a certified public accountant by trade. In December 2009 a buddy got me started dipping, and I must admit that i liked the buzz. Unfortunately it was a bad time of year to take up the addiction with tax season and 70 hour work weeks starting. Needless to say, i quickly found that dipping to be a crutch to get me going in the morning before I had my coffee at work, and I used the shit every night when i got home to chill. I started out with skoal wintergreen long cut, and a can would last me a week. After about 4 or 5 months, skoal wasn't giving me much of a buzz, and i switched to cope long cut. I was good with a small pinch at first, but it eventually became bigger and bigger pinches as my body adjusted to it. Finally when i decided to quit 2 weeks ago, i was going through one can of cope long cut every 3 to 4 days. Plus the shit is expensive as hell here in VT at 6 to 7 bucks per can - another motivator to quit. I knew it was time to quit when I wasn't getting as much of a buzz on cope long cut. Plus i was freaked out, and still am, about getting cancer. So, on 3/10/11, I put the last dip in before I got ready for work and the threw the rest in the trash. The following three to four days were a complete mind fuck going through withdraw and worry whether i had cancer because my gums were sore. I saw the dentist on 3/14/11, and he told me that he wasn't concerned that I did too much damage, but he'll check me out thoroughly again when I have my regular cleaning in May. That was a huge relief, but i'm still freaked out by the unknown.

In the interim since my dentist appointment on 3/14, I've been reading up on what to expect during the quitting process. This website is definitely a great tool for learning what to expect... My gums weren't sore after about day 4 of my quit. However, I've started to develop sores in my mouth during the past few days, and I have one under my tongue right now. Talk about fucking freaky! I know the resources on here say that's a common occurrence and should go away withing 2 weeks, but still it's scary shit.

So this where I'm at. I'm ashamed that i lost my self-respect getting addicted to the shit, but only I can get out of this hell. I thank you for the support so far, and I definitely look forward to day 100!

Hopefully, I haven't bored you with my story.

Let's Kill The Can together, guys!

Dave it was smart to get out early. You and I have the same quit date so we'll also reach the mythical "hall" on the same date. The 99th anniversary of our 1st day of quitting.

One day at a time bro, we're still not through all the slings and arrows this quit has to offer. Buckle down, post roll, listen to the vets, join up in chat and keep your word.

Stay strong and stay quit. See you at roll call.
