Hello all. Thanks for this site. I'm 44 years old. I've been quit since 7/11/14.
I thought it was ironic that when I sat down with my laptop to write this, I instinctively reached for my pocket for a dip. It's not there. And it won't be there. Habits are hard to break!
I've been rocking the Kodiak for about 25 years.
I started dipping in college and it carried on into my military career. 20 years later, I now have two active, young sons and the doctor is saying my BP is too high and i have other heart related "concerns." Nicotine anyone? "Definitely," he says.
I have thought about quitting for a long time, but always figured out a way to talk myself out of it -- "how will you last that flight from NY to LA?" "What about when you drive home to Wisconsin over the summer?" blah blah blah. This list could go on for pages of BS as you all may know.
Finally, I decided to put my sack on the table and I quit last Friday. The weekend sucked -- and what about those dreams?? wow.
Monday / Tuesday this week were crazy at work -- FOG city. But today, i felt a little better. At work there are so many triggers for me to "whip out the can" that I am not sure I can do this. This is why i signed up for the site. Support here seems awesome!
Bottom line: I want to feel healthy and I want to be around for my wife and my boys.
Again thanks for this site -- the info and support here was what made me feel confident to get this done!

Greebs welcome aboard. We have lots in common brutha. I am 44, grew up in Wisconsin and now live out of the state, dipped Kodiak for 26 years. I have been quit for a little over the year, and it has been great. Here's how the site works. Everyday you make a promise not to dip today, you do so by posting roll. Click the link for the Welcome Center up above to get instructions on how to do that. Every morning you make the same promise. Remember you are quitting for you, but you are promising the rst of this site. So not only will you be letting yourself down if you cave, you will be letting down everyone here. That's a lot of accountability, use it and lean on it. Post roll and I will send you a PM with my cell number, use it if you having a rough moment.

Whoa those dreams the first week were vivid as hell. Those will come and go but it's good to think of them as a good thing rather than bad. The cave dreams can give you the feelings of guilt without an actual cave so they're great simulations.
I'd advise you to fall in love with gum. Jerky and sunflower seeds can be great but they're high in salt which isn't going to help with your high BP. Maybe crush some seeds for a month or so to help ween yourself off of your fixation of spitting and then go 100% gum. 2 years later and I always make sure I have a pack on me.
As for the other triggers like airplane rides and long car trips, just be prepared. We've all had to do them and yes they suck balls. If you put yourself in an attacking mindest the triggers are easier to defeat. Get excited about doing whatever it is without a dip rather than being afraid you might relapse. Each time you can face down a trigger and keep the shit out of your mouth your quit grows stronger. Other than that, just make sure you're a man of your word and believe us when we tell you that not every day is rainbows but life does get so much sweeter with every day that passes dip free.
Oh ya, and get into your group and post a day 1 promise.

Greebs - Thank you for your service. Great decision you made. Its going to suck for awhile but its the most worthwhile and personally gratifying suck you will every experience. You need to remember that. When you get to the other side you will be a new man, a better, stronger and longer man.
Prescription for tomorrow - Wake up, Piss and then post. Drink a ton of water. (it helps flush out the shit and keep you strong to fight the suck). Stay involved. PM me or anyone else if you need some numbers to talk. We all get it.
You got this.

You quit for 5 days on your own...then found this site, posted an intro...then nothing? What happened? You still quit?
