Title: Quit yesterday
Post by: iwanttoquit on July 21, 2011, 02:45:00 AM
Well, last night was the last dip. I have been a little over 24 hrs now and really am craving a dip. I work nights, 12 hour shifts, and would burn through at least a can a night, depending on the stress level. I crave more at work because of the stress. I came across this site a couple months ago and have been wanting to quit for awhile, I ran out last night and on the way to the store something hit me and I turned around and went back home and made the decision. I have a 15 yr old son and do not want him following after me in my bad habits. Well say a prayer and I think, as long as I can get out of the "fog" I am in, will be ok. Thanks in advance for the support.

12hr shifts. Me too. I have not been to work since I quit. Tonight will be my first night back and it will be my third day off the dip. I think it might be easier than just sitting here at home fighting it.

I don't have all the cool sayings down yet so I will just say fight it.

Later,

I'm only a couple days ahead of you, you guys got this. One day at a time, no dip. It gets better way quicker than you think it will.

Hey bud, I'm only 3 hours away from the 24 hour mark and I work the night shift too, brother. I'm actually on duty right now fighting the cravings of shaking legs and tonguing my gums. I'm committed to the quit and I encourage you to committ with me together.

PS: the next guy i see with a tin, I am punching him in the face and running away.

Later,
iwanttoquit, welcome aboard!

Even though Maac doesn't know all the sayings and whatnot, I think he said it perfectly. Are you a pussy or are you a fighter? I assume you are the latter, in which case all you gotta do is never stop fighting. At first the nic bitch will be up in your face 24/7. But you keep fighting and throwing her bitchass to the curb and she will start to leave you alone for little stretches of time. That doesn't mean she is going away forever, but you will have to fight her less and less. Just take it one minute, one hour, one day at a time.

Post roll early everyday...that is you giving your quit group (and everyone on this site) your word that you will not use nicotine for the day. After that, do whatever it takes to honor your commitment and keep your name clean. You got this.

iwtq,

welcome. KTC is based on a strong foundation of accountability that only you can control. the question comes down to whether YOU want to quit and how badly you're willing to fight for that quit.

here, we post roll every day as our promise to not put nicotine into our body for the day. in any form. sounds like dip was your death-method of choice, but no smoking, no nic gum, no patches, etc. we also post roll as EARLY as possible because it is our promise to not use and not a status report that we have not used for the day. a minor difference that is hugely important to an addict mind.

your addict mind will tell you all kinds of things in order to get its nic fix, but all you have to do is impose your will for 24 hours. hell, less than 24 hours due to sleep. i strongly suggest you spend your first three days (and much more) on this site. read, read, read. there have been many before you, and it's amazingly comforting to find out that you're not alone and that your experience is not unique or special. personally, i read (or re-read) at least 2 HOF speeches a day in addition to posting roll in my group and some other groups.

get to know your quit brothers and sisters. the more you interact, the more invested you are, the more accountable you are, and the less likely you are to cave. exchange phone number.... very helpful if you're in a internet-unfriendly zone and need to post roll. very helpful for when you're craving and need someone to talk sense into you. very helpful for helping a friend when they need YOU.

outsiders might think that an online support group is weird and wouldn't work, but this place is a family. we yell and scream at each other in fits of nic rage, we say stupid shit to each other, we rely on each other, and at the end of the day, we'd walk through hell and back for our brothers and sisters.

if that's what you want, post roll and be quit. if not, go "quit" someplace else.

Stand up. Post up. Take your life back from nicotine.

Hey, I was in your shoes a couple of days ago, and I too work 12 hr shifts that drag on forever, with co-workers who constantly walk around with a fatty in.

I'm on day 5 and going strong, so far fake dips/gum have been working for me. Get yourself some sunflower seeds, a pack of gum, or some fake dip if you can find some, and keep busy!! You will find it gets easier :) Just think in terms of one day at a time, I still can't seem to grasp the concept of forever.

it's not forever. just today and almost certainly tomorrow, but that's it.

Forever is too much for the mind to comprehend. One day, one hour, one minute at a time if that is what it takes. Just remember, that little can of brown shit will not solve ANY of your problems, it does not make you stronger, and damn sure don't make you look better or cooler to your family or friends. You looked like a dumbass walking around with that shit in your mouth. Keep it out.
