Title: Mtnriverdog intro
Post by: Mtnriverdog on February 02, 2014, 09:40:00 AM
I started chewing in high school during wrestling season as a way to "spit weight" this was 35 years ago. I chewed Copenhagen for 20 years than switched to skoal winter green somewhere along the way. I quit for 18 months starting in 2002 and I thought I was done for good. All it took was one bummed chew from a buddy during a night at the bar, and it was like I never stopped. I turn 50 this month and started preparing for my quit on my birthday. I started cutting back My usage on January 2nd from 1 can every day and a half to a can a week. My last can went 8 days and I figured screw it and quit on January 22nd. I put 50K miles a year on my truck traveling for my job and as Forrest Gump would say, driving and chewing go together like peas and carrots. This has been the toughest part of my quit. Good bye Skoal, hello sunflower seeds, gum, mints or what ever. I'm looking forward to the group support. Still trying to figure out how to post roll on this stupid iPad.

The seeds, jolly ranchers and gum do tear your mouth up. At least in the quantities I have been using. I get that! I think it is a good thing because it limits me and forces me to slowly go without the oral stimulation.

Get smokey mountain. I hated it and couldn't do the stuff the first week. It was not "real". After 2 weeks I tried it and felt guilty. It felt like the real deal and I actually felt like I was getting a buzz. I chewed grizzly Wintergreen but cannot stand the wintergreen smokey mountain. The classic works best for me.

You have done it before. You could probably be of great use and help some of us newbies. All while having a place to vent and hang out.

Riverdog - I'm on day 5 and I'm hurting in my quit with you. Sore teeth, neck ache, fuzziness, no motivation. I'm in your May group and I'm also feeling the pain of the not driving and dipping. I QUIT with you today.

You guys keep quitting, 1 urge, 1 crave, 1 temper flare, 1 minute, 1 hour 1 day at a time. Now THATS Quitting Like Fuck. There is light at the end of that tunnel, and you will start to see it soon.

WG nailed it. QLF is full of little wins, and you are winning. Get through the day w/o nicotine any way you have too; worry about tomorrow when you get there. It gets so much better.

Thanks to all the guys that responded. I have on the road almost everyday since I joined. I try to pst or on iPad or phone. I don't always get it right. The last week was harder than the first week for some reason. It seems like I have been getting indigestion and stomach aches all the time. I am still quit but it is a struggle. Hope all Guys are hanging in.
