Title: The Day Has Come
Post by: nickkalbach on September 24, 2015, 12:14:00 PM
After 28 solid years of hanging with my Wintergreen amigo, he has got to go. This is my 2nd serious cold turkey. I quite on September 19th after getting my first cancer screening and a lengthy scared straight talk from a nose and throat doctor. I am 5 years sober in a 12 step recovery for alcoholism and figure...well, it's no different for nicotine. I know what I need to do! I can 12 step this bitch of a habit and part of that is fellowship. 6 days in and the first 3 were tough.

This is a long term crutch for me; stemming all the way to my childhood. I grew up in an coal mining community where chew was prolific!!! Now a mountain dweller in Northern California, it's still pretty common. I know as long as I treat this like a true addiction, stay spiritually fit and don't pick back up, I'll make it through the rough days. In the past I treated this as a minor vice and always came to the mindset that maybe a chew or toke here and there wouldn't be bad. But I'm an addict... I never to anything in moderation, so of course this thought always leads me back to a can a day within the week. I am powerless over the effects of nicotine. Once I take one chew, it sets me back on the course to dependence. Gotta keep that reality fresh!

Real solid intro nikkal. Welcome to the site, read everything you can on here so you can appreciate the how/why we go to battle everyday with this poison.

The price of admission here is to post roll everyday. To do that you go over to December (bunch of bad ass quitters by the way): December 2015 (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/11293904/174/#new)

Post your promise that you will not use nicotine in any form today. Keep that promise for today. Wake and repeat. Simple as that. It won't always be easy, but that's why you have those December brothers quitting right alongside with you.

Welcome to KTC and congratulations on making this decision. If you stick with this, you won't regret it.

Welcome nickkalbach!

Best bet is to go to the December 2015 quit group, introduce yourself and post roll. This group will reach 100 days quit in December, as will you.

We post roll very damn day here, and quit nicotine one day at a time. The keys are accountability and brotherhood (same as the fellowship you noted). Share digits with the quitters in December, support eachother in controlling nicotine.

I quit with you today.

I would be back to a can a day in a day. It is either all or none with this drug. Glad you are being honest with yourself. Let's see you choose none and stick with it.

Congratulations on the greatest decision of your life.

Learn to post roll and do it everyday. Posting roll is a promise to yourself and the brotherhood. That promise is NO NICOTINE for that day.

There are thousands of quitters on here that have great knowledge shared in HOF and WOW. Read and learn from them. PM any of us and we will help. All we ask is that you come and post roll every morning and make that promise for that day.

I am proud to quit with you today.
