I'm 39. I'm married and have 3 kids. Been dipping for about, I don't know, 9-10 years. I go through maybe 2-4 cans per week. I'm going to need help with this. i'm man enough to admit a weakness. Tried quitting before. Did't last long. I coach football and its always around. Temptation staring me in the face. I have got to man up though. I am starting a new fitness program and this is part of it for me. Tired of worrying about the health implications. Tired of hiding it from my loved ones. its ridiculous. Any help that I can get would be greatly appreciated. Its going to be tough.

Welcome. This place has all the help needed. Every one of us failed on our own many times before finding KTC. All you have to do is buy into the system. Post roll every day, get to know some folks in your quit group and fight the nic-bitch with everything you have.
It ain't easy, but it is simple enough.

Hey Coach, (thank you for taking good care of our kids), what if your middle linebacker came up to you and said the following....

"Hey Coach, this is just too hard. That other guy over there is big and mean. He has been staring me in the face all day. I tried to tackle him once but he is so big I just gave up. I'm a man and all coach, but I just think we should throw in the towel on this game even though it is just the first quarter."

OK, what would your response be?

If you're anything like my coach was in football, that linebacker is about to get an ass chewing just like you.

C'mon Coach, you freaking pussy, its just a can of cancer dirt. You're 39 years old and letting a can of hooch with no balls kick your ass? I swear, there are 6th graders tougher than you. For Gods sake, you have children to raise and take care of for a very long time and you would rather stroke the pole of some US Tobacco CEO. Throw that shit in the toilet and flush that pile of dog crap. You don't need that. Now, get in there coach and quit being a lame ass, excuse making, lip packing douchebag. Get in there and hit somebody. Damn.

You are not the first addict, coach, dad, or just a regular Joe to enter our halls. The fact is, you're not special. We all have stress, family, obligations, and temptations on a daily basis.

If you want to quit, make it known. Tell your family. Tell the dooshes at the C-Store (threathen to kill them if they sell to you). Tell your friends, co-workers, and other coaches.

I can't take credit for the following, it comes from Syndrome (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showuser=5607) one of the most inspirational quitters I have found here.

Quote from: Syndrome

man your coworkers are fuckin with your quit? time to teach um the tryed and true ktc way that you and your quit are not to be fucked with. next time one a those fucks offers you a dip heres what you need to do:

1. take can with big smile
2. open can
3. rotate arm at the wrist 180 degrees, there by emptyin contents of can on ground
4. step on pile of worm shit
5. twist at knee and ankel to grind worm shit back in to ground
6. replace lid
7. hand can back to coworker with a smile
8. remind him that you will be willin to help him agin any time
9. repete as nessassary til no buddy will ever offer you a dip agin. evin if you ask for it.

ps if you can piss on the worm shit thats evin better then grindin it in to the ground.

Yep. There is a magic concept. It is simple to do yet so many people refuse to do it.

Are you a man that can make promises and be accountable to that promise?

Facing that linebacker may be the toughest thing you do this year but you can face him and you can beat him.

Every today you must post roll. By putting your name on the roll, you are promising other nicotine addicts that you will not chew tobacco today. Likewise the names on the roll are promising you.

Keep your promise. You can quit for 24 hours. Your addicted mind thinks you can't do it because forever quit is impossible but to quit today, we all can go 24 hrs, even if its hard.

So you take your quit day by day. Just like your linebacker needs to focus on the play at hand. The last play is over, the next play doesn't matter until you show up, suit up and play the play at hand.

I have never quit tomorrow. I only quit today.

Post roll, keep your word and repeat every day you wake and its "Today".

Do this. It's going to be tough but if you follow the plan, you can quit.

I am living proof. I haven't touched nicotine / tobacco for 727 days. Thought I couldn't do this forever. I still can't. I only quit today. When tomorrow comes, I'll worry then. Today, I am quit and can go a day without the shit in a can. The lie in a can.

The decision to quit and stay quit is yours and yours only. The reason for quitting can only be for you as well. If you quit for your new fitness program you will be right back fingering the can. Quit because you want your health to be better, your gums not to bleed, your breath to not smell like rat ass, etc. etc. etc. Quit for you coach and your wife and family will reap the rewards too.

KTC members and the website are here for your support. You will never lack for someone to talk to, I promise. We need you as much as you need us. We are a community, a brotherhood of quit. It's strange at first but you will make friends you never expected.

Your Price for all of this? Post roll EDD (every damn day). Make your promise to not use nicotine here on this website and then be a man of your word. That's it. do it today and don't worry about tomorrow or the wedding your going to next week, or the fishing trip this spring. NOPE DONT WORRY ABOUT ANY OF THAT, JUST TODAY. I quit with you Coach. 131 days for me today and I can't tell you how accomplished, proud, healthier, and satisfied I feel. Not to mention, over 700 dollars I didn't spend on chew.

Welcome!! Mogul got it right as could be!! Post roll every damn day and keep your promise!! Life is so much better being free. I was chained to the poison for 25 years and have been free for 142 days and counting. Take it one day at a time, get pissed at nicotine, and fight for it! I'll quit with you!

Evil is right, we are not special butterfies. The good news is, you don't have to be special to quit. If we can do it, you can do it. One day at a time. You got this. Bring the quit.

You got this coach.. Time to pull up your big boy pants and slap that nic bitch right square in the mouth. You don't listen to her any more.

I have attempted to stop dipping so many times it is funny now. It wasn't until I stood up and said "ENOUGH! This is my damn life, and I want to live it. I am done with you nic bitch" that I was really quit. Craving or not, you have to decide for you that you are done, forever.

I quit with you coach.

^^^^^^^^^right here Coach^^^^^^^^^^

NO matter what you are done. that is what you have to decide. I don't care how many cravings you get, how bad you think you want it, how shitty your day has been. It doesn't matter because there is no way that your fingers are going to put any shit in your mouth. It doesn't even matter if you die. At that point you have won. either you kill the nicotine bitch or she kills you. Its your choice. I'm not dying with that shit controlling me. how about you?

This site is awesome, Coach. We are all very different people, but our addiction is almost always the same. Most everyone starts on this site with a similar intro to yours... "wish me luck" or "I sure will miss my friend" or some other BS addict speak. We are (were) all called down by some bad ass quitters, and then we start to drink the Kool Aid and man up (or woman up as appropriate) and really get into the program.

There is a very consistent string of winning by following a formula:

-Post roll EVERY DAY first thing (before walking the dog, going to the bathroom, whatever.)
-Keep your word.
-Make contacts with others in your group, pay it forward and backward (make contacts outside of your group also.)
-Contact your contacts to check on them, or if you are having a tough time.

Follow these few simple RULES and you cannot fail. Yes, that is right... YOU WILL WIN. No luck needed. No "I hope." We do.

Many of us "tried" for years. Hell, we tried for decades. Trying is bullshit. Now we do. Welcome aboard! If you need another contact, let me know. You couldn't have picked a better group of addicts to make as friends and warriors.

Man. I gotta say, you guys really rally for the cause. It's awesome. Day 2 and I'm outside at a softball game. Got a dull headache. And feeling fuzzy. I'm sure it gets worse before it gets better. I'm not going out like a bitch though.

I do have to become more familiar with navigating these forums. Thanks again for the replies.

A bad day as a quitter is awlawys infinitely better than a good day as a nic user.

And yes, is sucks for a bit, but it gets better with every passing day. Allow time to heal and to rewire your brain to function properly without the drug. It takes time.

This will be a small window of suck in what will be a better life, free of addiction and slavery.

The struggle is worth it and you don't have to do it alone. We are here for you. We've been in your shoes. They're tight as hell and at times you feel like you can't take another step in them.

Keep walking. Once they are broken in you'll never want to go back to your old ones again.
