Title: My Deal
Post by: Tysken on April 20, 2009, 08:13:00 PM
All right, I'm three days in and still hanging in there, so I figure I can write an intro. Had my first dip at camp long long ago and didn't touch it again, nor did I care to. But for some stupid reason I picked it up again maybe ten years ago, would go through a can, "quit" forever, and then later start again. Hadn't touched the stuff for a long time until my son was born, no sleep and all stress, guess I remembered how I felt when I dipped and went back to it. It was my seeming shelter and retreat from the fatigue and a wife with serious post-partum depression. Again, intermittent periods of use followed by "permanent" quits. Recently realized that it's all adding up to a lot of dip over the years, the clean periods are getting shorter, the times when I am dipping are getting longer, and the withdrawal each time I stop is getting much worse. I have a good feeling about this quit because this time I've got help- you guys. But I'm afraid that my particular addiction pattern- highly variable reinforcement- probably will make it much harder for me to stay quit. I'm in this for the long haul- I have to be.

Welcome Tysken - You gotta make up your mind man whether this quit is your last. You have to tell yourself this is a lifelong commitment and don't look back. The stress excuse is so overused by most likely everyone here - I used it to death for years. It sounds like you've got some things to live for. Don't end up being a Dad who had to quit his tobacco use because of cancer or the Dad that died because of freaking dip. That's nothing for your son to be proud of.
