Title: Rookie quitter
Post by: sal2814 on May 19, 2014, 02:28:00 PM
I've been a regular dipper for the past three years but quit three months ago. Started when i was twenty and quit at 23. Now I'm starting to develop a mild sore throat and a what feels like a lump in the back of my throat. It could just be a cold or allergies, but i'm also nervous that it could be mouth cancer. Any advice?

Thanks,

Sal

See a doctor.
and while you are at it. Read the welcome center and join up with a quit group. If you need inspiration to never go back check out the cancer pictures section.

Hmmm... while you should always consult a medical professional to get an opinion that is worth a darn, it's probably nothing. After all, it's allergy season and your ENTS will almost definitely tell you that it's post-nasal drip and write you an Rx for hay fever.

That said, 75% of oral cancers diagnosed in patients over the age of 50 are in tobacco users. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance.

Why did you quit?
How many dips have you had since you quit?
The next time you think that "just one" won't hurt, watch this video: VSauce and Risk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-CK8VxMz9g/skip)

Close to 43,250 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or pharyngeal cancer this year. It will cause over 8,000 deaths, killing roughly 1 person per hour, 24 hours per day. Of those 43,250 newly diagnosed individuals, only slightly more than half will be alive in 5 years. - See more at: http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/fac ... vLYcG.dpuf (http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/facts/#sthash.8DFvLYcG.dpuf)

Thanks minny, appreciate the info. I honestly quit not only for the health reasons, but i had a bad accident due my dipping habits. It just didn't seem worth it after the accident. And i quit march 24, 2014. I have to say I have dipped since then, earlier this month to be exact. But i'm almost glad i did it, because after avoiding it for so long, i really didn't enjoy the experience anymore. I successful tossed the entire tin away after only one pouch. Didn't really see the point.

Thanks everyone, i appreciate all the help, and am glad i have the kill the can forum's for help and suport

Well bud, your quit date isn't March 24th, its "earlier this month" when you decided to test yourself.

This is a ZERO nicotine site.

Don't tempt fate by trying it to see if you still like it after a period of time. You're an addict. Reintroducing nicotine to your system ONE TIME can lead you back into full relapse. Google "The Law of Addiction" and give me a full report on your findings. Don't ever try, "just one" again!!!

You can't be a little bit pregnant and you can't be a little bit quit. Go all in with the quit, son. Go balls deep into this bitch. It's the only way.

In binary terms, you're either a 1 or a 0.

Don't be a ZERO, sport.

First off, go see a doctor...I have not met a oral surgeon on KTC, and the vast majority of us are not medical professionals.

Secondly, you did not quit three months ago, you STOPPED. Like Diesel said, this is a ZERO nicotine site, that means: No patches, no gum, no cigs, no cigars, no hookah, no ecigs, no blunts, no spliffs, no snus, and of course no fucking dip. If you feel you cannot abide by these rules, you should leave, if not please stay and quit with us.

Thirdly, you are young, the odds are already stacked against you; you have to really want to quit. If you are just quitting because you're scared, or your gf wants you to quit, or any other half-ass'd reason, you will not make it. You have to view your next dip as a death sentence, you have to get pissed off at tobacco, and you have to put EFFORT into your quit.

Lastly, jump in head first, you need to do more that just post roll and leave if you want to stay quit. Jump on to live chat, get to know your fellow quitters and exchange numbers with them, text them, read everything you can, and post whenever you can, hold others accountable, and protect your quit.

you guys are all right. I cant be a little wuss and puss out of this. I have to, and now do see each time i dip as a death sentence. And accounting to the law of addiction, any nicotine will trigger this, meaning, by dipping one little pouch, I'll either goes back to full-fledged dipping, or go through the withdrawal process associated with quitting.

I got to cut the shit, and quit, not stop. Which I can do

Attaboy. Now flush all the shit you have and go to the welcome center. You gotta want this and quit for you. Not cause you're scared. Read up and learn how to post roll. That is our promise to stay quit and totally nicotine free every day.
Then it becomes very simple...keep your word. But beware, that nic whore is a sneaky underhanded twofaced lying slut.

Yes now do it! Throw all your nicotine out down the toilet or drain, and post roll in august 2014. Go to the welcome center to learn how to post roll if you need to. Let's see if you are up for the fight- I think you might be tough enough. Get started and get your life back!!

Like yourself, I had some throat issues that prompted me to pull the trigger and go full on quit. Best decision of my life. After seeing a couple of ENT's and investing in 1) my health and 2) piece of mind I can finally say that I have a clean bill of health. But, I'll tell you something. Many addicts will mistake that clean bill of health as an invitation to open the door and let the nic bitch back in. Instead, that clean bill of health should be serving as an impenetrable lock that is reinforced with your word, accountability, and brotherhood with KTC.

I saw a new dentist for the first time in 2 years November 2013. They used some awful crap to get the stains off of my teeth, but once the oral cancer screening was good, I simply nodded to him as him preached quitting. It was so easy for my addict brain to equate "no cancer" with "keep on chewing", and it took me another 5 months to be brave enough to quit.

I hope you join us.

Sal - Looking for you to post roll on day 1 which is the day you throw the can away. There's a world of tomorrows out there but only 1 today. Man up and commit to yourself then post roll.

Try these instructions for: PC How to post roll (http://www.killthecan.org/roll/)

1. Login, go to your quit page, think about what you are going to post.
2. Find the most recent post
3. hit F5 or refresh the page
4. Press "quote" on the roll
5. Click in the box that has all of the Roll posts (the lower box), hit CTRL-A to select all and Press CTRL-X to CUT, not copy-if you copy, then you'll double post roll.
6. Click to the reply window and press CTRL+V to paste it in. Then write in your name, day and your promise
7. Press submit-done.

Nice research, Son. Way to take the time to look that up and report back.

You know what to do. Now all you have to do is do it.

Good news is you don't have to do it alone. You have a bunch of crazy sons of britches to help you through the process.

Settle in, champ. Time to get you're health and your freedom back.

It won't always be easy, but it will always be worth it.

And you can take that to the bank...the BLOOD BANK.

Quit on...
