Well it is 11:45 p.m. central time, and I have decided to quit dipping at midnight (for real this time). I have used Skoal/ Timberwolf wintergreen for about 12 years now. I have a wife and 2 kids, and I want to be there for them. I'm sick and tired of worrying about cancer, and not being there in the future for my family. I have given half-ass attempts to quit before, but this is the real deal. I came across this site today, and I see it as a blessing. I picked up the nicotine patches today, but I know that won't be enough. I need the help of you guys. I will quit this time.
-
If you use nicotine patches you are only prolonging the agony. You will suffer withdrawal over and over again. It's like breaking up with that psycho girl and then calling her and driving past her house every day....not that any of us would do that.....
Seriously, though...this site is dedicated to people who choose to quit cold turkey. We all struggle with the severe suck of cold turkey withdrawal and then we overcome it together. You don't need nicotine, you need to live your life without the nic bitch dictating it for you. Patches are another crutch that will just feed your brain more lies. Get off the nic, ditch the dip and post roll....
(edit)
I do speak this from experience, I bounced from one kind of nicotine to the other, trying to get off of it (smoking to dipping to nicorette to smoking and around again). The nicotine gum that I used did absolutely nothing for me. It only further fed the addiction.
-
First of all, welcome Tbeck!
You're heading in the right direction. Like andrew said below though, ditch the nic. Get rid of the patches and don't even open the box. Heck sell them to some weaker person that needs a crutch to quit, because you don't.

Well said Andrew, well said.
TBeck, #1 nice choice, best thing you can do for yourself. #2 drop the patch - all it will do is prolong your withdrawl symptoms. Instead of having 3-5 days of the suck you'll be in for the same period with each step down in nic dosage you go. Drop it and get with the program here. Once you do you'll be able to post role over in the April PreHOF Quit Group - you can't as long as you have nicotine in your system. That group of quitters will support you and hold you accountable to your quit.
Proud to quit with you TBeck. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

TBeck
Would you suggest to a 5th/day vodka alcoholic that he quit by drinking a six pack of Bud Light?
Would you suggest that a crack addict quit smoking crack by shooting herion?
'Crazy'

Quitting nicotine by using nicotine is crazy AND not allowed here.
If you want our help you have to go 100% cold turkey like the rest of the thousands of successful quits you have surrounding you on this site.
-
I did not know that I could not use patches, and be a part of this club. The few people I know personally that have quit, did it by using the patch. I think it has become clear I do not need this site. Thanks for the support, blow me.

'Remshot' Good luck quitting with the patch, mate.
I used patch/gum/lozenge, etc for a whole bunch of years, and never made it more than a week or so before grabbing the Cope again.
I went cold turkey 14 days ago, and have never felt better, thanks to this site!

If you ever decide to stop feeding your addiction, come on back and start posting role call....but only if you're not using nicotine. You will still find this community of people who are successfully beating nicotine addiction one day at a time together, without using gums or patches or other sources of nicotine.
You are welcome anytime, but not while you are still intent on putting the poison in your body. I hope you are clean soon. It feels wonderful to be 100% free of nicotine......even in the first week.
-
I see you at the bottom of the page Beck.......
I think you do want to stay.
I think you are scared to let go of nicotine.
We all were.
Take the plunge, you won't regret it.

You're still feeding your body nicotine, and don't know what true support really is.
Dump the patch. Throw the shit out. Cold Turkey baby! Or, are you saying you are so weak that you cannot do this WITHOUT a crutch? Let us be your crutch. Shit, I'll hold you up. Redtrain will hold you up. MikeA will hold you up, just don't let him do it from behind.
Toss the shit, embrace the suck and let's see if you're a man of your word, or just a pussy.
You lurk, it's your move.
-
...and, you posted twice, and yet you have seven different quitters who have posted here with help, support and advice.
No support, huh? _
I don't think you're ready. Prove me wrong.
-
And with an attitude like that......
......well, you'll fit in quite nicely around here.

Man, I was just where you are. I quit dipping New Years Day. I was chewing Nicotine gum, but feeling like I was really accomplishing something. I came to this site and got in the chat room and came up with every excuse in the book as to why it would be better for me to ease off the nicotine using the gum. The truth is that I was terrified at the thought of not having my safety net around. It's embarrassing and disgusting to admit that to myself. You're no different, I imagine.
I'm only on Day 12 without Nicotine. It hasn't been easy, but I'll be damned if it doesn't feel great knowing that the nic bitch hasn't owned me for the last 12 days. She still holds the series lead, mind you, and she will for a long time (I dipped for over 15 years), but I'm in it to win it.
When you're committed to quitting, come back. If I see you posting roll, I'll know you gave up the safety net for the freedom the fog brings. And it'll mean a lot to my quit.
You can do this. Be a MAN. The safety blanket is for my two year old daughter. I don't need one. And neither do you.
-
Alright fuckers I'm in. The patches are gone (well spent $50). The Timberwolf was flushed down the toilet last night. I am going to get ready for work, anyone know any breathing exercises, that can help me when I'm flipping out. I can use the fake snuff with no nicotine right? I don't want to break any more rules. I still think MikeA is a D-bag

Nice job! Flip out on me if you want, I don't give a fuck.
You CAN do this.

The first hours and days completely off the nic are A BITCH. They just are. Your body is not happy, and you are in a complete mindfuck. Don't get used to it, it goes away after 4 or 5 days, but you have to tough it out through this one. You can make it. I guarantee it, DO NOT CAVE, remove yourself from any situation that might possibly give you the opportunity to cave. You DO NOT need nicotine to live. Your mind is telling you that, but you don't. You got this. Stick with your quit. Stick with us.

MikeA, I hope the "oops" isn't because I did something wrong.
Tbeck, it sounds like you understand cold turkey is the only way. Great decision to join here. If I hadn't finally gone cold turkey, instead of 12 days behind me without nic, I'd be the guy chewing the shit out of nic gum all day and hoping to cut back tomorrow, assuming I wasn't back to the can already. Welcome.

Gum, water, seeds, deep breathing, get some excercise, take a walk, fake dip....whatever it takes. Post up, read the site and get involved.
Get on chat, read posts from Greg, MikeA, RT, TCOPE, read the site. Drink a ton of water. Take tons of vitamins, especially Vitamin B, since that will regulate your neurological system, which is about to take a giant shit on you.
Get involved with these doucheba...I mean, gentlemen...they will support you through thick and thin.
Take NOLAQs advice, come here and rant and rave and rage...we've done it, and got the t-shirt.
This will be the best decision you've ever made...can you make it?
-
Go pick up that eclipse 60 pack of gum. or a bucket of seeds. in the beginning itll probably wind up costing you more day to day than a can would. but last time i checked gum and seeds wont kill you. keep yourself busy and goodluck
-
Did you post roll today? I hope so, but I didn't see your name.
-
Made it through today, but it was rough. More stress at work made it a little tougher than yesterday. Right now though I feel pretty good. In approx. 1 hour I will be up to 48 hours without that delicious garbage in my mouth. Can't concentrate on shit, I have the attention span and memory of a retarded goldfish.
GO BEARS!!!
-
Dude, it'll get better. Just make sure you remember how tuff these first days are. It can help you out when you are struggling later down the road. Do you really want to do this all over again? Take it day by day. Sign the April roll daily as your promise to yourself and your fellow quitters that you will not cave for that day. If you need anything or are struggling, post up and there will be several people there to back you up.
-
Hang in there bro. many here to support you anytime of the day!! but the Bears? Seriously???

Hahaha ....... yep, I remember ....... I know it's hard to hear, but this will actually serve you well as you go deeper into your quit. Your body is healing, and this suck you are going through is really bad. It is supposed to be. When you are quit for a week, it will be better than now. Much more at two weeks. Remember how bad it is, you will NEVER want to go back. I am at 54 days. Still sucks a little. NO WHERE NEAR AS BAD! There is hope, I promise. My cravings now last a minute or so. I pop some seeds and go on about my day. Not easy, but very doable. I never thought it would be this good.
Proud to be quit with ya! You can do this!
And HELL Yeah the Bears ...... Packers suck!

Haha, retarded goldfish! Good description of what the fog does to you. It's not permanent man, so hang in there. I remember that very well! Take it a meal at a time, or an hour at a time.
You got this.
-
I can only muster up 1/2 support for the Bears fan. Next week after the Packers start preparing for the super bowl, I'll be more supportive to you Bears Fan.
Go Pack. Go Quiters.
