Title: New Quitter Intro
Post by: Charlie R on January 31, 2017, 04:46:00 PM
Charlie R here from the great state of OK!

I started dipping in May of 1973 at the ripe old age of 11. I'm 55 now, so I've been at this for a while. My typical day starts with a dip right after the morning tooth brushing and continues until bedtime with a few breaks along the day to stuff my pie hole (about a can a day avg). I was invited by a fellow member here a while back and I have read quite a bit about what to expect in the days to come. My quit date is actually tonight at 12:01 and this date has been in place for a while now. I shared with my wife how it kinds feels like standing in the street, watching a speeding bus heading straight towards me. The closer it gets the more I wanna run!

My wife has been studying this for longer than I have and will be my greatest supporter even though she knows what some of the potential side effects might bring. We both know the reward will greatly exceed the suffering but we aren't fooling ourselves....this is gonna be tough.

Now my reason for my quit? It's nasty, expensive, hard on my body, it's taken control of me, etc. BUT...the MAIN reason I can have is this. I have some very close family members who can't (won't) deal with their own addictions. I realize that I can't do anything about with their addictions, but I can SHOW them that I am willing to do whatever it takes to overcome MY addiction.

Hang tough!

There is no tomorrow!

If you have made the decision to quit, then quit!

She still has you by the short hairs!

I know it's hard. Probably the hardest thing you have ever done. I know it was for me.

You can do this. No reason to wait. None at all.

I'm not real sure if this is going to post where it should but here is my update.....it's been almost 48 hours and I'm pissed. I have no other explanation than I just feel angry. But I am quitting. Every single minute.....

Brother, the first few days suck. No way around it and nothing you can do but just grin and bare it. Pound water, go on a walk, chew seeds, fake, mints, gum, etc. Just keep quitting one day, minute, second at a time.

You could post roll. Be accountable to your group. And stay quit by using what this site offers??

Charlie, I am 17 days into the quit today. 35 year addiction and like you, can a day all day. Hang tough, took me a week to feel normal. Mostly good days now and the bad days are nothing like day 2 and 3. PM if you need a contact. You got this...

Day three is nearly done. I'm not sleeping much at all but the cravings don't seem to be as intense as they were. My throat is crazy sore! I'm using gum, seeds and lots of water. I will try to figure out how to post roll but I wanted to check in and let you know how I'm doing and I also wanted to say thanks for the encouragement and accountability. We're quitting together. Every minute we're quitting.

Hey Charlie. Just wanted you to see how to post roll. This youtube video will help. You will be in the May quit Group since your 100 day quit will fall in the month of May. Check it out and start getting involved with your group. Dont go through this alone.

I came here after 35 years of nicotine use myself. Posting roll every day and actively quitting have kept me free for 518 days. Quitting alone leaves the door open to "just one" and our addict brains know how to rationalize using again after that. If you are like me you have "quit" a lot of times before.

I encourage you to join this crazy gang Charlie. Make a daily promise and keep your promise. If you do that you will stay quit.
