Title: My Story Starts Now
Post by: zimmy on March 25, 2019, 12:33:49 PM
25 years of chew and I am quitting today 3/25/19.  I have a 5 year old daughter that I want to walk down to aisle one day, she is my reason.

It is honorable to quit for your daughter...nothing wrong with that.  Make sure that you are quitting for YOU though...that should be the first reason to quit and THEN your daughter.  Quitting for someone else other than yourself time and time again leads to failure.  Do it for you and have her be the additional armor you need to keep your quit solid.  Get others on here to build up that armor you need day in and day out of your quit.

This isn't easy...if it was, there wouldn't be a site here or quit plans marketed, etc. out there to help out.  Dig in...come here each day early in the morning and post up your promise for today to be quit...go to sleep at night and then do it again tomorrow.  Quit for today and let tomorrow be tomorrow.

Welcome, zimmy.

Best decision you could make. However, as Palpatine said, you have to be doing this for YOU FIRST. Make yourself better (i.e. don't press the accelerator toward your death) because you want to be better; side effect is that you'll be there for your daughter for years and years to come.

I saw you posted your Day 1 roll. Stay focused, stay hydrated, stay involved here and connect with other quitters. My digits are a PM away.

You got this man. Best decision you’ve made for your health. You never know when the next one will be “the one”. Use this place for encouragement and support. We’ve all been through the suck of the quit. But it’s possible to get through! One day, one hour even one minute at a time.

Zimmy,

Congratuations on your decision. Now stick with it.

Welcome to the group. Here are some words of wisdom I like to share:

The main way to be successful is to just decide that you have quit. Once you stop the negotiating in your head as to whether you will do one more or not the rest becomes far more simple.

The next important thing is to learn how to distract your attention. When you get those thoughts about dipping, switch your attention and think about something else. Anything else that you like. This ability to change your focus will guarantee your success and make your quit that much easier.

When you place a dip in your mouth, your brain releases sugars. Well, those sugars are now going to be gone.

However, you can replace them with OJ or other fruit juices with sugar. This will provide some comfort, especially on your initial quit days.

Make sure to exercise with weights and cardio when you feel that nagging tension in your muscles, you feel that rage, when you can not sleep and when you cannot focus. Exercise really helps.

Here is one that most people overlook. Get at least 3 square meals a day. Hunger can really bring on those urges so squash those urges before they come. Eat full healthy meals and do not let yourself get excessively hungry. You will see this helps a great deal.

I waited until I was 59 quit after using tobacco for 40 years. You are wise to quit now.

I quit with you today.

Zimmy, welcome to ktc.   Just wanted to say that you made a great choice.  The road is not easy, and it will be tough for a bit, but freedom from nic is worth it.  Post roll early, its just a great way to give the middle finger to nic and promise not to use for the day.  Then make it through the day.  Rinse and repeat.

Right now you are probably still a bit foggy.  Don't worry, and embrace this as you only have to go through this shitty stretch only once. I used cigs and dip for 30 years.  If I can quit, so can you.  Post your promise early and often is my saying.  Get involved and stay close to ktc early in your quit.  You will start to see what real freedom is once you hit 30 days or so.  Proud to quit with you today! Feel free to call or text me if you need more accountability.
