I've been a longtime abuser (~25 yrs) of Skoal. I've quit multiple times. Even reached free periods of over a year, but that was some time ago.
I used only once a day. Took me abut 5 days to kill a can. The last thing I did before I went to bed. More than that was rare.
Loneliness and the fear of that feeling going on forever fueled this addiction, in addition to the nicotine.
It was my psychological defense mechanism. It filled a void. A time to escape, play victim. My daily reward with a big FU to the universe.
Something happens and you know it's just time. Tired of all the bullshit that comes along with this addiction.
I've lived in colorful CO for nearly 20 years, but raised in Pittsburgh - Go Steelers, Pens & Bucs.
So glad I found this safe haven.
Peace,
RMR

Hey RMR, thanks for sharing. You are like many others here. So many times tried quitting without success or real effort. You’re here and you’re vulnerable, so it sounds like you’re invested this time. I know you can do it, everyone here is with you. I also know it’s going to suck in these first few days, weeks, months. But, it gets better and continues to get better. Don’t worry about tomorrow or next week or 3 months from now or 100 days. Just worry about today and that day each day you wake and make your promise.

This first week went really well. Almost too well and it sort of alarms me.
There is no doubt that this is first and foremost due to the wonderful folks within KTC. Major shouts out to @BearNM (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1751), @Allpuck (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1620), @AndyCan (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1681), @olcpo (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=16159), @Jbash (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=16057), @Onebadbinder (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1594), @Hilltop (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1713), @judge2019 (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1972). Thank you!
There were a few tough moments but when they arrived I just went with a few handful of seeds followed up with ice cream. Holy shit I ate at tone of ice cream this week :). Maintaining my daily meditation practice is having a significant impact as well.
And man did the days go by slow. Hopefully the essence of time goes faster as it gets better.
Really looking forward to taking on each day now that the 'days of suck' are behind me.

Nice post here RMR. You have the right mind set to overcome this addiction and win. First of all, you sought out accountability from fellow quitters. Second, you had a plan, i.e. seeds and ice cream, instead of stuffing cat shit in your face. And 3rd, you are being active in your quit by meditating and continuing to do those things that’ll keep your mind and body sharp.
On a note, it is good to look forward to the day when the ‘days of suck’ are behind you, but that will take some time. Everyone is different, but I didn’t feel “normal” until around day 250 and still had lingering withdrawals and bouts of anxiety and the like into the 400’s. This is why ODAAT is such an important philosophy. You cannot quit for a year at a time a get that suck out of the way. And you don’t have to, luckily. You only have to quit today and today only.
It will suck for a while, but rest assured that you will get passed it. And when you start getting a little thirsty for a dip, just drink the KTC Kool-Aid instead. It’s a little more refreshing.
WUPP, ODAAT, EDD, ADD. and QLF.

We'll it's been another week. Week 2 did go by faster but it wasn't as exciting.
Last night was the hardest yet. Some negative energy from the past rolled back onto my doorstep. My mind wanted its old blanket but I wasn't going to give in to that moment.
Hell - I went through about a half a can of the fake shit and then moved on to working my way through a bag of dill pickle seeds and writing my thoughts on paper. I was out of ice cream ;).
Everyday I wake up though, knowing I didn't have a dip the night before gets me pumped. Looking forward to a better week 3.

Hi RMR, Thanks for intro. I joined you yesterday in the March 2020 PreHoff. This is my day two. Great to see fellow March 2020ers active in the forums! For me today it was a box of Good 'N Plenty. Chaotique

A little past week 3 now. The thrill of the quit is most definitely gone.
But, I have noticed that the evening cravings have gone down a bit. Certainly not eating as much ice cream.
Last night I even went without the fake and seeds.
Overall though the quit just feels really good.

Congrats on the quit. You made the right decision. You can do this. You can beat the beast. PM me if you’d like digits to work through the fog. The more support you surround yourself with the better your chance of success. PTQWYT

Loving the quit! Things are going really good.
No dip dreams, major craves or problems sleeping. The only think I've noticed at times is dry mouth and some bloating. Not sure if the bloated feeling is due to the nic or diet.
Just continuing to rack up ODAAT. Great to start a new year free of the nic!

Quit is still going strong. A few weeks back I was hitting the ice cream hard again but that's since subsided.
Now just mostly chomping on the seeds after drinks. Imagine that will go on for a bit more.
We got a good group in March and everyone's kicking ass, which feeds the motivation even more.
See you in March!
