Title: New Quitter Intro
Post by: CincySam on June 25, 2020, 01:49:20 PM
Hello,

My name is Sam.  This is my first serious attempt at quitting after 15 years of dipping.  I did quit for about 8 weeks during Air Force Basic Training (talk about a distraction from withdrawal symptoms). After training I thought I could just have one so I bought a can, however, for some reason I talked myself into keeping the can because I spent like $4 on it, who cares!  I've done afternoon quits before, but this time feels different, I feel motivated, I'm on day 3 currently and I joined KTC because I know that excitement and motivation will begin to fade as time goes along. In past attempts (half ass attempts) I didn't tell anyone I was going to try, to save myself the embarrassment of failure or look for any support from fellow addicts.  I figure this time if I'm going to try I'm going to utilize every resource.  Joined KTC, told people I was quitting who didn't even know I did it in the first place, purchased Baccoff, seeds, gum all the works.

Hey @CincySam (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=17907) ,

Great job making day 3 on your own. Drink lots of water today as the first few days are rough. Head over to https://ktcforum.org/index.php?topic=16478.0 and post roll for today. Lots of great quitters here willing to help you be successful. It all starts by making a promise first thing each morning not to use nicotine for the day. Just keep your word for the day then repeat the next. Looking forward to seeing you in September.

Welcome Sam. Follow the link Doc posted and get your name on roll.

I want to just make sure the gum you mentioned is not nicotine gum. KTC is a completely no-nicotine site where cold turkey is the only option/method. Just wanted to reiterate that to make sure you are off on the right foot.

I quit with you today (IQWYT)

Welcome, @CincySam (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=17907)! DocPetey gave you some sound guidance for getting started on the site. Hope to see you posting roll on the September page each day from now on. You'll be with some solid new quitters just like yourself, all on slightly different stretches of the same quit road. As DocPetey said, drink plenty of water; it does help tremendously. And get ready for the withdrawals - physical and mental. The mind games can be just as f-ed up as the physical symptoms, but you are stronger than the nicodemon. Cold turkey is damn rough, but it's the only way to be truly free.
You got this, bro!

Hey Sam,

All sound advice from the other fellas.  No comes the reality check.

First off, you have never quit before.  Quitting means not returning to something.  You have only had stoppages in the past.  Here, we quit and we quit one day at a time.  We post our promise every morning after we wake up and we repeat that process every damn day.

Second, we don't try here.  "Do or do not, there is no try" ~ Yoda

Third and last for today, You need to realize that you are an addict.  Once you get that into your brain everything else falls into place.  Addicts can never have the attitude of, "just one won't hurt".  We are all addicts here and we will all be addicts until the day we die.

Great job posting roll in September, just post in the top section next time.  Welcome aboard and feel free to ask any questins you may have.

Perfect. Keep drinking tons of water and get involved in your group. Share your digits using the 'My Messages' tool in the top toolbar with your fellow quitters. Start to form a web of accountability. See you on roll tomorrow right away in the AM.
