My life revolves around my chew and my mountain dew and not my wife and kids like it should. Hiding it from them for the most part. They all see me do it on long road trips. The boys (7, 11 & 15) see me do it at home when the wife and daughter are not home. The 15 yr. old is special needs so I don't worry about him ever doing it. The younger boys cannot see me do it any longer. Also keeps me up late at night to chew and Dew undisturbed while everyone else is sleeping. Is a problem with work because I wake up late and get to the office late. I'm tired at the office and work quality suffers. End up coming home late and don't see the family as much as I should. Then they go to bed and the cycle starts again.
Ugh!! Finally done with it. Quitting both cold turkey tomorrow. My health and my family will be better for it!!!

Here is what I know so far:
$$$ Saved: 7 days*1 can/day*$5.50 = $38.50.
Lies told: ZERO!!!
Hours stayed up past bedtime getting a "peace and quiet" dip and mountain dew after everyone in the house has gone to bed: ZERO!!!
The money saved isn't too bad and a good start. The last two are PRICELESS!!!

On Friday, Boss came by and told everyone to leave at 3pm. Great news!!!
Previously...I would have driven around for 2 hours with a lip full of cat poop and would have gone home later like I left work at 5pm like normal.
What did I do? Went directly home to spend time with the family.
Win #2
Van got backed into leaving a baseball game. Van is 10 years old and probably is going to get totaled. Guy scraped the whole side of the van and says it wasn't his fault. No police report because it's on private property. Reported to the insurance companies and hopefully they see it as his fault.
Get home and check on the pool and something on the pool filter breaks and water starts streaming out.
Previous gottadoit (61 days ago) = after everyone goes to bed, put in the biggest, fattest dip of cat poop in my lip and "relieve my stress".
The new KTC gottadoit = after everyone goes to bed, go for a brisk walk in the lovely Phoenix evening (90 degrees at 11:30pm).
What a huge THANK YOU that goes out to KTC and everything they have done.
Huge THANK YOU to my August 17 BB's
Huge THANK YOU to all the vets that show support to the newbies coming aboard.

Question from a new quitter was posed: Quick question I've been dealing with: Does anyone know if life ever returns to normal?
My response:
Normal??? How am I supposed to know what "getting back to normal" means after putting that cat poop in my lip for 25 years?? "Normal" was putting one in on the way to work, finding a quiet parking lot at lunch to have a quick 45 minute dip, putting one in on the way home from work and then staying up later than everyone in the house to be able to sit in peace and quiet to have another (this one being a 2-3 hour one). I'm an addict and that is "normal" behavior for an addict.
I'm 71 days into my quit and I can happily say that things are not normal. To be quite honest I want to get as far away from what was "normal" for me for the last 25 years.
Proud to be Quit With You! Keep on Quittin' On!!

Since my last post I've had a few challenges. The biggest being a couple of 17 hour drives to take my daughter to college and then to visit later in the year. Used to be that I'd get a couple hours in and then would no longer be a ninja dipper. Would tell my wife that I had to have it if we wanted to get where we were going in a timely manner. Could drive all freakin' night with that cat shit in my lip. Teaza and Grinds helped me through but I didn't need them as much as I thought. Amazing finding out all of the things the human body can do WITHOUT chew!!
Actually hit the HOF on one of the days that we were driving. I've also experienced the second and third floor. Great stuff that I never could have imagined and none of it possible without KTC!!
Also was lucky enough to be one of the conductors for The Quit for Red October. Great bunch of guys and couldn't have had more fun welcoming them aboard the HOF Train.
Once that was done I guess I've experienced a little burn out. I'm still a 100% poster but I haven't been near as active. Hoping to change that going forward. Latched on to a few quitters in June 18 and looking forward to stalking some fresh quitters in July 18 and going forward.
That's my update on day 336. So proud to be quit with all of you and can't thank you enough for your support.
If anybody wants some more accountability, feel free to shoot me your digits in a PM. I'd love to add you to my daily promise texting.
Keep on quittin on!!!

Here's an update I provided to my August 17 brothers about someone who stopped posting with us but was still quit. Let this be a warning to us all that we have to be diligent in our quit and always keep aware of potential cave situations.
Screen name: Gooseman1
He stopped posting with us on 1/14/18. I have texted with him ever since and he has been quit this whole time. Just got a text from him this morning saying that he is on Day 3 instead of Day 349 like he should be. HUH??? What happened? He was out partying with friends and didn't think about it when they started lighting up cigars. He joined in. No chew, but nic. Now he is back to day 3. Says he is not coming back to KTC. Has support from his wife, a friend, myself and another KTC person. He is sticking with that.
He approved of me sharing to make us all aware (especially as we are approaching our one year quit-iversary) that the nic bitch is sly, the nic bitch is slippery and the nic-bitch will get her claws into you anyway that she can. Luckily for Gooseman1, it was a short engagement and didn't involve chew so he didn't revert back to his old habits.
KEEP AWARE PEOPLE!! SHE'S OUT THERE WAITING FOR ONE LITTLE SLIP UP!!

This place and you people are absolutely amazing!!!
Would I have done this without KTC? NO!!!
Would I have done this without my August 18 Battling Bastards that Beat the Bear? NO!!!
Would I have done this without the support and accountability from the people I text on a daily basis? NO!!!
Would I have done this without personally meeting David S, Srains, Skol and Montovon? NO!!!
The moral of the story? It ain't me. I've been in the equation before when I've tried to quit (and only stopped).
It's KTC
It's the accountability
And it's YOU!!!
Those are the new pieces of the equation here!
THANK YOU KTC!!! THANK YOU FRIENDS AND FELLOW QUITTERS!!!

Posted in Aug17 on October 20, 2018...just wanted to have it here for the record:
gottadoit - Day 534 - I promise not to use nicotine today. 17yr old has football tournament, 13yr old has volleyball tournament and 9yr old has baseball tournament. Busy Busy Day. Since I was ninja, would have been looking forward to my peaceful time with the nic bitch after tournaments were over and everyone was in bed and not focusing completely on the kiddos games. So glad that's not a thing anymore. Thanks to all you BBTBTB's for helping keep me quit!!!

This is from the Kern story. See it every once and a while in Leeron's signature. Want to have it here to help remind me of all of the milestones and events of my kids that I want to be around for:
Tomorrow marks the 9 year anniversary of you being gone. I can't believe all that has happened since you have been gone, 3 of the 4 have graduated high school, 2 of the 4 graduated college, 1 had a baby, we all have jobs, we all got our licenses. I honestly never thought I would make it this far. I so wish that you could be here with me, Alexa, Connor, and Tori. Seeing all of the things we have accomlished...and everything that we still have yet to accomplish. Graduating high school, moving in at college, graduating college, having kids, buying a house, baseball games, first jobs, first girlfriends/boyfriends. I know that you are proud of each and everyone of us, but I/we need to hear it from you. We want you to be here to tell us "Nice pitch", "Congratulations on graduating", "Have I told you I loved you yet today?" (which Kenra and I try to do everyday now It is sometimes just hard to get through the day. And to think...all this over a stupid dip...who would have thought?

Better late than never man!
Glad to see you know it's a problem and guess what? You came to the right place. These guys and gals will be an amazing support system. Get hooked up with your quit group and post roll. I know it may seem weird at first but you'll get a bunch of people sending you phone numbers. Save them and shoot back your number when you are comfortable because it really does help establishing relationships with people here.
Jump in live chat whenever, the chat really helped me with my quit and still does today.
Hit me up with anything,
Big Red

Thanks Big Red. Just dumped everything down the toilet and posted Day 1 in my quit group.
-
Make sure you are quitting for yourself first and foremost. I "quit" for my wife and kids 20-30 times, I only QUIT once for me. It sucks that it works that way, but until you HATE the death weed, you can't break free.

On day 4 today. Doing good so far. Plenty of water being consumed. Not bragging and don't want to piss anyone off, but I haven't hit the fog yet. Definitely don't want to brag because I know it's coming!! Just stating the facts because I know everyone's different and the body handles changes differently. I've been a little more on edge at times but for the most part I'm comfortable with my quit.
Definitely helped so far that I told my wife and that she understands what is going on. Had a good test last night. Did a late night run to the grocery store for some last minute stuff. That is usually when I would grab some mountain dew and a can of Kodiak and then wait until everyone is asleep and break out the goods. Walked right past the dew and didn't think twice about heading to the tobacco checkout aisle. That tells me that I'm on board for this quit unlike the other times I tried on my own. I would have caved in seconds.
Thanks to my August quit group and the accountability factor, I do not want to let them down.
Thanks again everyone. Making me stronger in my quit just typing this.

First off, congrats on 4 days! That is no joke, my man.
Dew and nicotine, dew and nicotine, dew and nicotine... you've been pumping your body full of some toxic crap there for a while. At some point, your brain is gonna kick in and wonder why it's not getting it's fix. It'll be unexpected and hit you hard. Could be day 5, could be day 25, doesn't matter. Stay focused on routine and post roll first thing every morning, build your foundation ODAAT.

I love everything about this intro. This is a full-on, balls to the wall, re-set and lifestyle change. Dude - think about this: 20 years of chew and dip, mountain dew all day - nicotine, caffeine, and sugar galore - not only is there a huge cancer risk, we're talking huge cardiovascular risk - the sugar and exogenous all day stimulant - not great for the heart and it's got type II diabetes written all over it. Layer on the lack of sleep - and your body is on overload.
Fast foward to 8 days later: nicotine out of the system, dew is down, sleep is on and above all - accountability is running wild. You've engaged your family, posting roll, almost 50 forum posts since joining 8 days ago.
I can't begin to tell you how much my life has changed since quitting 3 and 1/2 years ago ...it's unreal, and every day I relish in it. It continues to pay huge dividends. The friends I've made, the trust with my family, and most importantly - the faith in myself. I've done all of this for me and everyone around me has reaped the benefits of my selfish quit.
Don't stop for one second. Shoot me a PM if you want (need) a lifeline of accountability.
...and P.S. thank you for allowing me to read what felt almost like an autobiography
-
I don't know which one is worse....a can a day or all that dam dew. Both are cancer magnets between the tobacco and sugar. Glad to see you putting it down and walking away. Stay focused and never look back.

I am on Day 60 of my quit today and wanted to give a couple of examples of what happened in the last few days that normally would have been big time chew moments.

Get home and check on the pool and something on the pool filter breaks and water starts streaming out.
Previous gottadoit (61 days ago) = after everyone goes to bed, put in the biggest, fattest dip of cat poop in my lip and "relieve my stress".
The new KTC gottadoit = after everyone goes to bed, go for a brisk walk in the lovely Phoenix evening (90 degrees at 11:30pm).

gottadoit - congratulations on day 60!
It is hard to believe the things you can do without snuff any more.
Remember how you needed a dip right after you ate?
Amazing how quickly you get used to not having this stuff around.
I tried quitting after using for 45 plus years.
I quit with you today. Day 658!

Congrats on that first lap around the sun as a quitter. The accountability network you've created runs deep and you continue to nurture it. This here is a quitter whom other's would benefit from simply riding his quit train

Thank you kind sir. You have been a huge help in keeping my quit a quit....and not just a stop this time.

Today is Day 365. Tomorrow is 5/5/2018. My quit date was 5/5/2017. So up for debate whether today is one year or tomorrow is one year. Either way.....WOW!!! What a ride it has been. Like many others, I never would have thought this to be possible 366 days ago.

Are you a Bad Ass Quitter? YES!!!
'winker' Great job on a year of quit Glenn!

Day 1,000. Boy does that dangle look nice! And boy, does the freedom from nicotine feel so nice!! Been said before, but when I was in the middle of shoving my face full of cancer, I never thought I'd be here. Wanted to quit, tried, but couldn't seal the deal.
KTC sealed the deal. The accountability and the people that hold you accountable are what make this place work!! Too many people to thank and afraid I'd miss someone.
So.....
...thank you to KTC
...thank you to the creators, the admins and the mods for keeping this place up and running smoothly.
...thank you to the AUG17 BBTBTB's.
...thank you to our AUG17 mentors and conductors.
...thank you to each quitter that I've interacted with on the forum.
...thank you to each quitter that I text my promise to each day (and will continue to do going forward - we are never cured).
...thank you to those that I have met face to face.
You have all made my quit stronger, made me a better man and made my life better because it is no longer centered around needing a nicotine fix.
MY FAMILY AND I THANK YOU!!!!!
