Hi everyone. My name is Jeremy Forrest and I am addicted to nicotine. It started when I was 16 years old. I am 34 now. I still remember my first cigarette. It seems like a very long time ago. I quit smoking 3 years ago when my employer gave a discount to non-smokers, and banned smoking on campus. Needless to say I didn't quit nicotine. I tried E-Cigarettes, and they worked great. I soon after quit the e-cigs and it was so much easier than quitting cigarettes. I went into remission about 2.5 years ago, it started with e-cigs, and then I got scared because they were leaving green residue in the chamber. Which I thought was battery acid residue. So I switched over to dip, because my lungs couldn't handle it.
It is safe to say now I am pretty addicted to dip. Grizzy Wintergreen pouches to be exact. I "double dip", 2 at once because one is just so small. I go through approx 0.5-1 can per day. When I can't dip I chew nicotine gum. Which is normally 3 days a week at work while doing 12 hour shifts. I have completely hidden my addiction from everyone I know. I never told my parents or brothers I started dipping after quitting smoking. I never told my girlfriend either. I have no plans on telling anyone at this time. I feel like I need to do this on my own with support from others who have been through this. This is soething I need to do for myself and I just need to hear the things I experience the next few weeks are normal.
I have been slowly tapering down to a dip in the morning, and 4 X 2mg pieces of nicotine gum at work, and 2 dips after work. I finished my final exams at school Tuesday, and worked 11 to 11pm yesterday and today. Tomorrow is my first day off, and I am so done with dipping. I ordered a weight bench to keep me busy, and plan on smashing water all day. I am so sick of feeling new things in my mouth and worrying I have cancer. In a way it infuriates me that I have let things get to this point.
Tonight is the night I take my last dip, and throw away my can for good. And tomorrow morning is the first day I go as long as humanly possible before putting in a piece of nicotine gum. I plan on waking up everyday and going longer everyday without a piece of gum until I can power through a day without it. My ultimate nicotine free day is one week from my taper off date.
In a way i feel fortunate even though dip is more addictive that I am coming off dip rather than cigarettes. I have only been a dipper for a few years and do not feel a strong metal connection with it like I do with smoking. I don't ever see myself after quitting thinking about a dip. I will be thinking about a cigarette. But I do know it is very tough to quit. The withdraw is brutal. I get the worst sinus headache, trouble walking, nausea, and hot flashes. I never experienced hot flashes quitting smoking, and this is the main reason I decided to taper off instead of cold turkey. That and because there is never a good time to quit where I have a bunch of days off work in a row to be miserable.
Anyway, this turned into a short novel. It's time to stop talking the talk, and walk the walk while I can.

Well Jeremy,
Others will follow me but this is a cold turkery, balls to the wall quit site. No nicotine in any form. Including gum. Just throw it all away now and in 3 days the physical withdrawals will be over. Join us. There are thousands here waiting to support you but first you have to just dive in clean. You can do this. We all did and we are no smarter or stronger than you. Are you ready? Do it NOW.
-
Jeremy,
Flush that down and quit right now and go post day 1 and start reading. This is all or nothing and probably one of the best decisions you will make in your lifetime.
-
Flush it, post roll and promise to not use nicotine.
Read everything on this site, we have all been there before, you story is like a hundred other quitters.
-
Dude... there is so much weakness in your post. Yeah, its scary. Yeah, it will not be fun. That's the price of freedom though. It can be done. You need to stop letting a chemical be your master.
Now. Do it now.
To an addict... Tomorrow always breeds another tomorrow. Besides, how do you know that the shit you put in your lip as your "last one" isn't the one that tips the balance? Turning heathy into cancerous. Stop playing roulette... How many more chances are you gonna take?
Do this now. With us.
-
Hey Jeremy,
We don't use nasty gum, patches, lozenges or suppositories that contain nicotine. In fact, we don't use ANY nicotine containing products including e-cigs.
Sorry you wasted your money on that shit, but at some point you have to stop using it. Tapering does not reduce the effects of withdrawl because you are still using nicotine.
Flush that shit and let's get to this.
-
Come on Jeremy, you're 34 years old quit acting like a teenager. Quit nicotine now!
-
All right, you guys have inspired me. I am just going to say screw it and start now. But technically I had nicotine already today. So I will post day one tomorrow when I get a real full day in.
I have been through this before, and quit for months at a time. I just have to do it for real now and break the nicotine chains.
-
Taper off shmaper off. Doesn't work pal. Sorry. Do your homework. NRT is only good for one thing, keeping you addicted to nicotine. Why prolong the misery of withdrawal??At the end of the day there is only one way out.....
NO NICOTINE TODAY.
When you are ready, we will be here. Don't wait too long now.
-
Jeremy,
Don't wait till tomorrow. I know that sounds weird. You've had nicotine, so why would you post a Day 1 now? Here, we generally say Day 1 is the day you quit. What you're promising when you post that Day 1 is that you will not have any for the next 24 hours.
Make that promise now, because it eliminates the possibility that tomorrow morning you'll say "well, just one more day." And we all know how that goes.
Oh, and if you haven't already, flush everything. Smash the gum, wrap it in a moldy vegetable and throw it in the bottom of the trash can. There's no longer any "Just In Case" stash. You are quit now, and you'll be quit for the rest of your life. So embrace it my man, it's fantastic.
-
But also, congratulations on making this decision. Once I see your name on roll, I'll message you my number. Today is the day you stop slowly killing yourself with tobacco, dip, cigs, and nicotine. Congrats!
-
Dump the shit and post a day 1 on roll. I posted Day 1 after wearing a patch for 30 days, these guys finally got through to me and I tore it off where I sit right now, and posted Day1. Join us, best decision you'll make, and you'll be feeling fine by Christmas!
-

Great decision, we will look for your on tomorrows roll call.

I have been nicotine free for about 3 hours now. I still have 8 hours left at work. Nicotine gum went in the locked confidential paper box to be shredded. Grizzly pouches dumped in toilet and can buried in garbage. It's going to be a long hard day, But I will survive. Day one here I come!
-
Jeremy, POST ROLL NOW, DAY 1. Tomorrow means NOTHING to us. We need your promise that you are quit today!
-
Jeremy, you only get one intro. Make new posts where you were earlier.

sorry mod please delete.

I have already promised myself this time it is the real deal. For good and forever. There is no turning back now.

You're looking for March 15. (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/10761232/26/?x=90#new)
Sorry, Edit - You'll want to go to the very last page.
Quote the roll I bumped, select all in the lower box, cut, and paste in the upper box. Add your name to the list of Quitters and your Day 1 and hit Post Reply.
Bingo. Nic bitch slain.

Jeremy- welcome aboard and congrats on the best decision you'll make! Check your inbox.

sorry mod please delete.
We don't delete here, we combine. It may sound dumb right now, but we try not to edit or delete anything here. This addiction is ugly, and we want everyone to see what it takes to kick it.
I did edit your header though. 'winker'

Looks like you decided not to be a pussy anymore. Here is your free bonus prize - a dip quit!

LOL, that's exactly what i said to myself. EXACTLY. Time to man up and quit being a little bitch. I can handle the withdraw. I will survive. And my wallet will be fatter, and my teeth in tact.

Jeremy,
This is awesome. When I read your intro I knew you would get jumped on from every angle. It's tough love here, but it's coming from people who have been EXACTLY where you are. Looks like you can see that immediately which is HUGE. I got called out in my intro as well and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. It made me stronger and reinforced that the true enemy in nicotine, not the guys taking time out of their day to respond to a stranger on a web forum.
There is a powerful brotherhood here for you if you take advantage of it and follow the program. Freedom from nicotine is a beautiful thing!
Lighty

Smart move dude. We are with you. Post roll early tomorrow. Commit, follow thru. You've got this man

Where you at Jeremy? We are waiting for your roll post and promise today.
I'm here. I work 11-1130, so I tend to stay up late. I slept in extra today to hopefully skin some withdraw. Today is going to be a long day, but I will head over as soon as I get on my computer.

Good to know Jeremy. Will look for you on roll. And...I am going to quit my ass off with you today.
PS. Being able to sleep in the beginning is a blessing!

Jeremy, congratulations on the best decision of your life. Glad you came around and joined the cold turkey crew. The next week or so is going to be one of the hardest things ever, but get some phone numbers of some other quitters in your group. If you want mine, send me a PM (private message) and I'll hold you accountable. You only get one chance to to have 100% status on your daily posting, do not miss a day, you can never get it back. We have seen it many times, if you miss days you will cave. You have thousands of quitters ready to help you on your journey. Welcome aboard
-
Dude, you're on day 2 and I see that you posted roll. M'man rdad laid the smack down along with a bevy of othe badass quitters. You see what is already happening,...complete strangers are giving you stones in which you can begin to build your quit. Pretty f'n awesome isn't it?
Do yourself a favor, embrace this time. Embrace the suckiness of nicotine withdrawal. Why? Because you're going to promise yourself never to go through it again. When you emerge from the fog and look back at the addict through the eyes of a quitter, freedom and clarity will take over...and man, is that a rush.

Thanks for the help everyone. I am surprisingly doing very well today. Right now I feel pretty normal. I did have a slight freak-out at the grocery store though. I was standing at the deli counter and got hit all the sudden with that headache and empty feeling. I debating whether or not to drop my groceries and head home and lay down, then I reached in my pocket for nicotine gum, and remembered I threw the rest out yesterday, and never re-upped after work. Then I contemplated grabbing some nicotine gum off the shelf and eating a piece before checking out. Well, I didn't do any of those things. I focused on my shopping list and powered through it, and felt better after about 5 minutes. It's pretty amazing the things nicotine tells your brain to make your body ingest it.
FYI, this is my weekend to work. Yesterday was not a standard day at work, normally I do not have any time at all to get on the internet in the emergency room. But yesterday I was on psychiatric watch. So if I go MIA till Sunday evening or Monday morning don't give up on me. I am not using nicotine ever again.

An average crave at your stage lasts less than 7 minutes, your tougher than 7 minutes right? In high school I once spent 7 minutes in a closet with an over zealous ham beast. If I could survive that you can handle a few craves.
The head aches are normal. YOur brain is getting more oxygen than your used to. This is a good thing and will pass soon enough. Your on your way just keep climbing.
