Title: Heya
Post by: jrydenbark on May 23, 2014, 11:14:00 PM
Hi everyone,

I just quit 4 days ago. Its really hard but I'm glad I did it. The turning point for me was going to the dentist last week and he told me that i need to get a gum graft for a receding gum on one tooth. I know it was the dip that did it , since the tooth with the receding gum is right at the sweet spot where I used to park my dip for the last 20 years.

Other than the receding gum, everything is ok. I just figure, if i shell out a thousand bucks to get it fixed and still continue to dip, I'm a huge moron lol. I also want my health to stay good and hopefully quitting dip will help me with that.

Hey dude - congratulations on the quit. I've read about several fellas who quit because of dental issues. It seems like it's ok if that's your spark to quit but don't make it your reason. You need to quit because you WANT to do it - not because you NEED to do it. The deal is this: when the medical issue passes, you'll think, "Gee, I'm ok now. I can handle one hit." We all know one hit is never just one hit.

Someone else want to jump in and give a better explanation?

Make this all about you and the reasons you want this, instead of just your fears. Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of fears but my wants are much stronger now.

PM me if you want a phone number for texting or calling over the weekend.

Stay strong, jrydenbark.

I challenge you to come up with more reasons to quit then the one you have right now.

Here is my list.
1 tired of being a slave.
2 dignity being taken daily
3 tired of loving a can of dirt more than myself, kids, wife and friends.
4 tired of spending my hard earned money on something that was slowly killing me.

This is Saturday and I have a busy day ahead, so I can't spend the rest of the day adding to this list, but to be fare I will make a list of good things the poison gave me.

Sorry I got nothing! You have a great day my friend. Need anything let me know.

So, the guy who just dropped the knowledge on you is 6, maybe 7 days quit. I'm 164 days quit and couldn't have said it any better. The reason he dropped that knowledge and and dropped it so well is because he has been reading everything he can on this website. He's jumping into the quit 110% out of the gates. I'm very excited to watch his quit and I'd like you to jump in and do the same.

True is dead on when is says make this quit for you. We've seen people come in and say they quit for their wife and kids; they want to be there for them. Absolutely, valid reasons for quitting. But they fail. We have all tried to quit for them in the past, and we have failed doing so. Come to KTC and quit for you. Because you want to be quit more than anything else in this world. You want to regain your freedom and preserve that freedom more than anything else. The quit is for you. The accountability is where you can bring in the rest. Be accountable to your quit month, and to all of us at KTC. Do this by posting roll every day and giving us your word. We are an internet support group, so the only way this works is if you truly hold your word. Read the site and you will see what happens when people break their word and cave to nicotine. Accountability is also where you can bring in family and friends. Tell them you're quitting and promise them that you will not use nicotine for that day. Quit for you, and be accountable to your friends and family. No more are you going to be accountable to just yourself; you've done that and you've failed. You may as well go buy a t-shirt that says "I quit nicotine today" and be accountable to everyone.

Quit on brother.

I definitely hear what you guys are saying and I agree 100 percent. The dental reason was just one reason of many. I just don't need or want tobacco in my life anymore really, so I'm kicking it to the curb. When I add up the money I spent on one can of skoal a day for 20 years I cringe inside. I coulda done something a whole lot better whit that money except piss it away on dip. But the past is the past and i'm done with dip for good now.

Fuck tobacco/nicotine. It's produced specifically for the purpose of stealing your money. Side effects are cancer and death. What a great product to waste money on (sarcasm).

You never needed that shit. Just keep it out of your life, ODAAT. I quit with you today. Post roll every single day and make some friends. You can do this.

Sweet, got through another day. Been using a couple dip substitutes like Jakes and Smokey Mountain. I think I like Smokey a bit better since it packs more like a real dip. Also been eating a ton of seeds. Not really seeing alot of physical manifestations of nicotine withdraw. Its more of a mental thing for me I guess.

^^^ What those guys said.

I like hooch too - I was a snuff guy, it packs like griz snuff did. Spitfire is my fav.

Craves hit me bad on days 2-4. I hope it is a mental thing for you, but I suspect it just hasn't hit you yet. Either way, stay strong - keep posting roll and PM me if I can help.

Still going strong. I think the thing that helps me the most is I treat every day as day 1 of a quit. I don't think to myself "gee, I haven't had a dip in a week!". I just take each day as its own separate quit. I think if I actually thought about how long its been since I dipped I'd be craving it alot more than I am now/

Any massive undertaking is easier to accomplish if you break it up into smaller parts. The mentality of quitting one day at a time is a perfect example of that. I have been in your shoes, right where you are now. The biggest thing that helped me was just getting through the day. It didnÂ’t seem like it at the time, but looking back on it now I realize that every successful day without nicotine increased my resolve and made my quit stronger. The best part was that it got easier. It didnÂ’t happen quickly and some days were more of a struggle than others, but it did get easier. Keep fighting one day at a time brother and remember, "Never again for any reason".

You got this dude. Just keep your eye on ODAAT, and make sure you post daily, it really is a cornerstone to your quit.

Quit with you!
