Hey group, I have decided to give this a go. Looks like i found the right place. I have been chewing Copenhagen for 15 years "half of my life" and im sick of it. i took my last chew on sunday night the 14th of Feb. I have got through these past couple of days pretty good, but im using Chantix. It still is no walk in the park. Toothpics, gum or lifesavers are always in my mouth. Well i look forward to meeting some of you and hitting my hundred days. Thanks in advance.

I was kinda waiting for somebody else to say it first..but..I guess I will. Congrats on quitting the Cope. I did the same stuff for over 25 years and am 45 days quit.
But....
I have to leave you with this thought..
Drop the Chantrix too. You don't need it. Just kick the nicotine habit all together. Stay with the gum, toothpicks, whatever. You don't need the 'medicine". Save your money for beer or sumpthin'.
Chicks dig quitters.

Nope... you can't "give it a go", you actually have to do it. Uncertainty like that has no place in your quit. Each day, when you wake up, you have to put your foot down and say "I will not chew tobacco today". Signing rollcall with a quit group is how quitters on this site formalize that daily commitment. Check out the welcome center (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showforum=13) for more information on how the site works.
My personal opinion is that it's best to stay clear of all of the chemical aids and see where your state of mind seems to be going after a few weeks off of the nicotine before looking to medication. But that's just my opinion and it's really between you and your doctor. Just stay clear of all forms of nicotine and the physical pain you're feeling will go away quickly.
One day at a time; don't worry about tomorrow until it gets here and don't think about 100 days. Just stay clean today. You can do this.

Thanks everyone. Man i hear what your sayin but i have tried to quit before cold turkey and it didnt work out for me, i'd be at the store in 3 hours buyin a pack of smokes. Then back to the Cope a day later. This has worked for me so far. It doesnt have nicotine in it either. Hey Jbee, nice bass, you do any tournament fishin?

Hey Snuffed.

Welcome Snuffed - you are making the best decision of your life putting the nicotine behind you. I am not one to critique others on their quit (unless they are using nicotine while "quitting"). Just thought I would throw a specific item out to you for your consideration:
(straight from the Pfizer's website):
Some people have had changes in behavior, hostility, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal thoughts or actions while using CHANTIX to help them quit smoking. Some people had these symptoms when they began taking CHANTIX, and others developed them after several weeks of treatment or after stopping CHANTIX. If you, your family, or caregiver notice agitation, hostility, depression, or changes in behavior, thinking, or mood that are not typical for you, or you develop suicidal thoughts or actions, anxiety, panic, aggression, anger, mania, abnormal sensations, hallucinations, paranoia, or confusion, stop taking CHANTIX and call your doctor right away. Also tell your doctor about any history of depression or other mental health problems before taking CHANTIX, as these symptoms may worsen while taking CHANTIX.
Wow. That is not buried somewhere on the site - it's on the homepage. Just food for thought.

Thanks Quit_aug, sure doesn't sound very appealing. I'm supposed to use it for 3 months but i think i will just use the first months supply that i already payed for. I have no insurance and i payed 150 bucks for it.

Snuffed, welcome to the fight bro,
Check this you said you tried cold turkey but bought a pack three hours later? That aint cold turkey brother, thats a mere pause in the action. Your hooked on nicotine not cope . Smokes are cope is skoal, is snus, is a cigar , is snuff, is nicorette, is the patch.
Your a heroin addict using methadone when you use Nicorette or the patch. Not sure where Chantix falls in this analogy but probably similar.
I applaud your efforts to break free, but I'm not sure I buy into your previous cold turkey attempts. That being said, I used anti anxiety meds in the beginning so who the fuck am I to judge right? course mine didn't have all those warnings about suicide and going nuttier than squirrel shit. Be careful is all Im sayin, and I personally would try a different approach. Cold turkey is the method that 93% of successful long term quitters use, that isn't a KTC stat either it is THE stat "american cancer association" I believe.
welcome
do what ever you have to to stay quit today, and let tomorrow sort it self out.

Here is my two cents. I tried Chantix for about three months. It was very expensive, like you said. It worked great, took away almost all craves. I thought it was a miracle drug. Made me happy at firsts. Then I went nuts. It messes with your mind. Depression, anxiety, alot of aggression, a few suicidal thoughts. I hated it after that, but kept on because it kept me tobacco free. When I thought I was "cured" after the recommended three months, I didn't get any more. The first hour after I woke up the next morning I was at the gas station buying a can. The withdrawal was there even after not touching it for three months. It didn't cure anything other than keeping your brain receptors wired to stop the craves. My advice, is just get off of it. You are going to be fighting craves and withdrawal. Do it now before it fucks with your head. It is not worth it.

I too used Chantix, for about 3 weeks. The headaches were severe but manageable, but my personality changed in some scary ways (I didn't notice it as much as my family did). Best I can describe it would be manic-depressive. I would be almost intoxicated at one time, then severely depressed just a few hours later (rapid cycling?). I'm about as far from a suicidal type person as one can get, but for the one and only time in my life, I actually thought about it. That alone scared the crap out of me and I stopped the Chantix right away.
Short story, I strongly agree with the others here, drop the stuff and just be quit without it. Just keep telling yourself that all the pain and discomfort you feel is because of tobaco so getting more will just cause more pain in the long run. There is nothing good about it. REPEAT AFTER ME, "THERE IS NOTHING GOOD ABOUT TOBACO, USING IT WILL ONLY HURT ME MORE, I DON'T NEED IT, I DON'T WANT IT, I WILL NOT USE IT, I AM QUIT!!!!!!!" Say that 10 times every time you even think about another dip or chew or smoke.

Well, last night was weird and I blame Chantix. I decided not to take it today and I could definately tell a difference but nothing I cant handle. So, I am going to listen to all of you that told me to get off it and ditch the stuff. Son of a bitch I love Ranch flavored sunflower seeds.

Get that shit out of your thought process as soon as possible. You can handle ANYTHING this addiction can throw at you. You simply have to CHOOSE to handle it. Today.
I applaud the choice to go at it without the chemical aids; this quit is now yours. Just remember, when you're in the middle of a crave, that you only have to go through this once. It will NOT be like this forever. Life gets much much better than it ever was while you were dipping. You can do this.
