Title: Here we go...
Post by: joesetum on September 19, 2014, 04:46:00 PM
Hi everyone, my name's Joe Setum. I'm 23 years old and have been dipping for the past 6-7 years. I believe that one of the main reasons for my chewing was due to playing baseball. That is where I started chewing and what has made it so difficult for me to put a stop to this habit. I can't remember the last time that I played in a baseball game without having a dip in, it would feel like I was missing something playing without it. I was able to quit once before for about a month during a break from baseball, but went right back to the can as soon as ball started back up again. I told my friends and family that I would quit chewing as soon as I my baseball career was over, being that it was so hard for me to during ball (bad excuse, I know). Well the good news is I have just graduated from college, and ended my career finishing up playing at the D1 level so now is the time to quit! I've got adult life to look forward to know, and don't want to continue hindering my health on a daily basis. I didn't really set a quit date, just started cutting back big time. I was chewing just under a can a day to a can a day, then was able to easily cut back to only 2-3 chews a day. Yesterday, September 18th, 2014, I was busy and ended up not taking one all day, so I decided that was the beginning of my road to killing the can. Looking forward to meeting you all and hearing if you've got any tips/help that could help me out along my journey. Thanks guys!

Congrats on graduation. And, more importantly, congrats on making a great choice. Learn how and why we post roll. Post roll, read all you can, and live free.

Quitting is done one day, one hour, one minute at a time. Drink tons of water, get some seeds, exercise...do whatever you have to do to fight off the cravings.

You've taken the first step, we're here for the rest. Embrace the suck...that is the feeling of healing, brother!!!

Great work Joe.
Great decision to quit this early, read everything on this site and get active.
Water, seeds, gum, candy or anything else to keep your mind off of chew.
PM me for digits, it is going to be tough but you can beat this addiction.

Congrats on the graduation and more importantly, on making a choice that will save your life. Eat this site up by reading the stories of others, including the painful ones. Promise to not use nicotine every day by posting roll. Welcome quitter.

Couple things:

1. You did not quit, you stopped - quitting is forever, let's get that started.
2. Congrats on graduating, huge accomplishment!
3. Read anything and everything this site has to offer. Doing this will only help strengthen your understanding and your quit.
4. Fuck the nic bitch, welcome to the rest of your life, man.

Congrats

Joe,

Gret decision to quit. I know the feeling of "needing" a dip for baseball, played college ball myself and it was just part of it. That was 14 years ago that my baseball career was over but my snuff stayed. Now post roll everyday and I mean everyday. We are here to help you any way, pm me if you need anything. Proud to quit with you today

Sir Nope

I never hop into chat anymore and I did it tonight totally off the cuff. Glad I did and glad I ran into you m'man! I love seeing you young cats in here fighting to take your life back. Good on ya! The best advice I can give you is to go all in. Own this quit young brother. Get involved and STAY involved. Freedom is yours for the taking... Do it.

Welcome Joe! You have made the right decision. Quitting now at 23 could not be a better decision. Don't wait till you are 53 like I did. One correction to your intro, you are a nicotine addict like the rest of us. Chewing is not a habit. Read all you can, post roll everyday and PM me or others in your group if we can help.

Just don't look too far ahead. Go one day at a time or ODAAT. It's manageable and one of the reasons we post roll. It's good to have you here and if you need to talk we're always here.

thanks AFA

Today's been decently mild compared to how I thought it would be being that this is going to be the last 24 in the 72 hours the body takes to rid itself of the poisons. I did have a bit of a craving earlier, but i took the advice i've heard from you guys. I went out on a 6 mile bike ride then mowed the lawn afterwards (completely got rid of that itch, thanks guys). I'm extremely glad I'm this close to getting the bitch out of me and by the help of you all I'm going to keep on working at this one day at a time. Thanks for the support you've been giving me these past two days, I'm sure this is going to get tougher but I'll be just fine with all you guys having my back! Hope you all make it a great Sat night quit, i know i am!

Funny how the lawnmower still works without a dip in, I know I was amazed my first time.
