I've been dipping off and on for the past nine years but pretty much every day for the last six. I could never enjoy long cut so pouches are my thing... especially the Skoal Xtra Rich (I know, not "hardcore"). My first dip and for a long time was Copenhagen Black.
I almost always have a dip in in the car and in my woodshop so going to the shop will be difficult these first few days and luckily, my commute isn't long (just long enough for a dip) so I should be able to handle that craving OK.
When I started dipping heavily, I was in grad school and under a lot of stress. Oddly enough however, I was also a nationally ranked triathlete. Now though, I am out of shape, thirty pounds heavier, and trying to have a family so I need to get my health in order for myself, wife, and future kids. I want to be around. My dad quit smoking when I was born and I look up to him for that... I want to do the same.
I plan to be pretty active on this site; the advice is great and everyone is super friendly. I don't think its a stretch to say this site is saving lives, relationships, and lots and lots of money for people.
Thanks!

Welcome blake.
I know you can do this since
you are an All or nothing type :-)
I also find it funny that you are talking about "hardcore", well my friend, this quit is a hardcore thing to do!
I quit with you today.

Welcome again TB. One of the best parts of KTC is all the extras that come along with it. You mentioned being a triathlete. Here are a couple forums on here you might find interesting:
Weight Loss (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/1003090/1/)
Endurance Enthusiasts (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/1004351/1109/)
Try to get back on the exercise regimen. It not only helps with the craves, but it should start to get you back into shape as well. It took me a couple months after quitting to get a consistent exercise plan going again, but every little bit helps.
Look around this place and read, read, read. There is so much good info that you will be able to use.

Welcome TB. You have come to the right place.
Do yourself a favor and read all the HOF speeches and Words of Wisdom that you can handle and when you cant handle anymore, read some more!
I was in live chat with you today and you mentioned all or nothing and hardcore. Well that is what this site is about. So if you are that type of person, you are on the right track.
Lean on us in the forums and in live chat when things are rough or you just want to talk. That is what we are all here for. And you can't possibly get any shittier with folks than what I have. I been a royal D-bag at times and no one has ever asked me to leave yet.
So lets quit together today brother and power through another nic free day!!!
Take care!

A great intro sir
There are benefits to quitting that are hard to define. As an example... My guess is that you piddle around in your workshop a lot more than you know. Using that time to get a little bigger fix. Or you stay up later, wake up earlier... All time that you could spend building yourself up to be truly bad ass again.
When the kids come, you won't have to hide spitters or cans or explain why daddy is doing something that will cause cancer - so don't ever ever try it! Kind of hypocritical, right?
You have had some bad ass feedback. Here is mine.
1. Get back to the gym a lot. It will wear you out so that you can't have energy for craves.
2. More sex. It helps everything. Tell your wife a doctor said this. It is a lie but she doesn't need to know that.
3. Post roll without exception the second you wake up.
4. Celebrate your win every day. You lost at this battle for how long? Winning is a big deal. Fuck losing man. Today you are winning!
-
tblake, glad to see you on roll again today! keep it up!

When I started dipping heavily, I was in grad school and under a lot of stress. Oddly enough however, I was also a nationally ranked triathlete.
Now though, I am out of shape, thirty pounds heavier.
There are many people whom I call 'country club ninja dippers', folks who started dipping when they were young in this world, got advanced degrees, were financially successful, and now hang out with their country club friends, quietly ninja dipping to avoid ostracism. Tobacco attacks the young indiscriminately, so when it comes to 'who dips?', there is no 'oddly enough'. Once you get to grad school, dip fits in beautifully because you can sit for hours studying with a dip in your lip, and if you find a clandestine nook in the library, you don't even need to do it the privacy of your own home.
Many of us decide that being quit is just the doorway threshold for getting healthy again. Feeling overweight? Find someone to crank out 2500 meters with in the pool 3-4 times per week. Start running 5Ks 3 times per week. I find the more I commit myself to being healthy broadly, the more a cave would be a travesty. Qutting is existential: you are no longer slave to tobacco; you are radically free, this is YOUR LIFE; live it and become whom you want to be.

Whats up brother. You've made the right first step. One word of advice that I've heard time and time again. DON'T DO IT FOR ANYONE BUT YOURSELF!!!! Over the next several days your emotions (more anger than any) will be heightened and you will find even the smallest little things pissing you off. Anyone could vouch so its not just a Day 7 quitter (me what whaaat) blowing smoke up your butt. Don't convince yourself that you are doing it for your kids, spouse, father, dog, imaginary friend, ET, Peter Parker, Nanu, Honey boo-boo's mama June, or Chuck Norris (now he's coming for me)...do it for you. Don't put yourself in the position to say "I'M DOING THIS FOR YOU DAMMIT NOW LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE" or something of the sorts. Do it and don't tell anyone, let them find out on their own and then they mention...THEN you own it like a boss...hell yeah I quit!!! They (unless they've quit the nic themselves)will have no clue what you're going through and you NEED to confide in people here on KTC. I haven't spoken with ChickDip but I've stalked the hell out of her...posts I mean....and she's a good ear and shoulder when you need it. Anyone here is. Not one soul here wants you to fail therefore we won't let you. Be the man YOU wanna be..do it for YOU.
