Title: Day 1
Post by: HugeFrogFan on March 04, 2013, 01:30:00 PM
HugeFrogFan

Day 1

20+ years of dipping regularly
Had my last three, yes three, dips, while reading the website for the last two hours and deciding whether or not I had the nuts to do this or if I just wanted to postpone it like I had done so many times before.

I'm ready, let's do this!

Welcome, Frog! Glad to see that you found some nuts. You have made the first move. That tells me your brain realizes the danger being done by your addiction. Your body will try to overcome that as the withdrawals get progressively stronger. You have to get your head in the right place now, before you get deep into that funk. Decide right now that quitting is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing going on in your life. It has to be that way, at least for a while.

What that basically means is that you have to rebuild your life and all your activities for a while. I steered away from certain friends, ignored some coworkers, stayed away from hobbies that encouraged dipping, stopped drinking, took different routes to work, etc. You need to sit down right now and write down your biggest triggers. Then plan on how you'll handle them. Have plenty of numbers handy that you can text or call when the shit hits the fan. Be prepared for the mood swings and don't take it out on your family and friends. They did nothing to deserve that. Bring your rage here. We like to see it, because it means you're still quit.

The next 3 days will suck bad. After that, it gradually gets easier. I give you my word that it's worth the fight.

Day 1 as well for me. I was doing the exact same thing as you, dipping while reading the website. Just before I registered I emptied my can out in the toilet and flushed it down.

HFF and Dan6523,

Radman is giving it to you straight. I am on day 6 right now and wasn't ready for the triggers. Like he said, it's worth changing your routine. It's not worth putting yourself in a situation where you could cave this early. Stick with it.

You can own this U30. A few tough days then it gets better, not easier but better. Post roll, commit, and repeat. See you tomorrow and reach out when you need help.

Being a new quitter myself and having just gone through what you're about to go through... be strong, text someone on here and post roll! Repeat this process every day! Having the guts to continue and the integrity to be accountable to yourself and your fellow quitters is what this program is all about.

If you need anything, PM me and I can give you my number. Staying quit with you!

It's time to embrace "THE SUCK". It will get better, but not before it get's worse. Remember these first days and hate these first days. This will help you stay quit and help you remember why that shit in a little round can isn't worth a squirt of good. Focus on the next 24 hours of staying quit and come back the next day. Proud of you and proud to be quit with you. QLF today

Almost a full 24 hours of quit in the books. In some ways, not as bad as I thought, in others much worse.

The amount stress between my should blades right now is nuts!

I found this article very helpful for understanding myself with dealing with nicotine. http://www.killthecan.org/robs/holic.asp (http://www.killthecan.org/robs/holic.asp)

I found it very interesting from this article that when I am in a stressful situation my body makes my urine acidic, which results in the nicotine in my body leaving my body faster. All in all, this results in me thinking that putting a dip in will solve my problem of dealing with the stress but it is just dealing with the addiction.

Day 2 - no tobacco. Had quite a few cravings here and there. I was able to suppress them and even discuss them with my wife(I was a ninja dipper). Talking with my wife helped, she said she is with me 100% of the way

Day 3 has been tough - breath mints, mint chew, beef jerky chew - doing pushups when the Suck comes on real strong. Hopefully, the bitch will be out of my bloodstream soon. If stresses causes it to leave more quickly, then I should be in good shape, cuz I have been a stressed mother fucker lately!

Hey, I'm only a day ahead of you on day 4 now and for me day 3 SUCKED big time. Today, day 4, was much better and I didn't really have a physical urge to do it. I guess it depends on the person but I think by day 4 most of the nicotine is out of your system. Then its physchological which I think is much harder. Lets both keep it up and we'll defeat this Bitch for good.

Yes. Great job and driving was primetime diptime. Soon you will have a new normal. I never even think about dipping in a car. That is freedom. :)

Has anyone tried acupuncture? How about hypnosis? Maybe they can program your mind to think tobacco is literally shit or something.

Just my .02 but I would be careful to not set up the event or task as a potential to cave . The word "hopefully" is a sign of giving yourself a back door even if you don't think so. You are still new to the quit so don't get ahead of today and being quit today. Wake up post roll first thing and be quit tomorrow. Nice and easy slow and steady. Quit today "Like Fuck".

Oh yeah, I forgot its winter in most of the country! I'm spoiled as fuck now out here in SoCal. I'm from Beantown so I know all about snow and plowing........which is why I got the hell out! But I always had a dip in when shoveling snow and people would ask me "what are all those brown spots in the snow?".
