Title: Entering 2nd Day of Quit
Post by: georgehayduke on November 06, 2013, 10:09:00 PM
As title says, I am entering 2nd day of quit. I've been inspired by information I have found on this site, but still need to read more.

I am almost 43 and been dipping since I was about 13. It's been a way of life and it is hard to imagine days without it. But it is ruining my marriage and have to also think about my two little girls. I've been hiding it and lying about it for way too long and that is not a good feeling.

I tried quitting several years ago by switching to Nicorette gum and if anything that made my nicotine addiction worse. With the gum I could get the nicotine anytime I wanted and found myself constantly chewing the gum around family and dipping my Grizzly pouches when alone. It's been like constant nicotine from the minute I wake up to bedtime. Got through first day OK. Not feeling too bad physically, but I am sure it will get worse. I plan on posting Roll from now on and providing and leaning on support from my group.

Welcome to the brotherhood George! I'm on day 2 as well, so we both have a long and difficult road ahead of us. Read all the resources on the site, post roll call every day, and reach out to other KTC members. You're more than welcome to shoot me a PM any time things get rough. When I reach day 100 and enter the HOF I better look right below my name and see GeorgeHayduke - day 100.

Hi George and welcome. I'm on day 15 so not far ahead of you but far enough to say that reading others' experiences and advice really helps, as does the accountability when you are no longer able to be a ninja dipper. Hang in there it gets better! Glad to be quit with you.

I'm with you too George and Derik. I'm only a few days ahead and I have been in quite a fog. However, I have made some fun with that. Whenever my wife asks what I'm doing or my parents call I just kind of.......well, act out of it and relax. Nothing is as important as not dipping. Nothing. We can all do this... We don't think we can, we are not a little train, we just freaking do it. Make the decision and let it be over with.

It's great to see all of you guys seeking each other out and supporting each other already. There are guys that I call friends that I met my first days on this site. I have one challenge for all of you. Make sure you make the promise to post 100% of the time especially for the first 100 days. This place doesn't work right if you only post most days. Share cell#'s privately with each other and use them. Text each other on a regular basis to see how each other is doing and especially use the numbers when you feel a crave. Use the numbers to vent a bit. Any and all of you that need a number, PM me and I'll give you mine. I'm on day 95 and am 100% NAFAR brothers.

NAFAR. Learn what it means and live it.

Welcome, sir. All of our stories are eerily similar. You can do this.

I'm similar age as you. Ruined my whole adult life with nicotine. 1150 days quit today. KTC is the path to the other side.

Reach out if you need anything.

Welcome to the party George. I always tell new quitters to remember you came to this site for a reason. YOU want to quit because YOU know that the nic bitch is ruining YOUR life. Post roll everyday, that is the promise you make to the ladies and gentleman that are busting their ass to uphold the promise they made to you. It's all about accountability here. Welcome to the club, please feel free to PM me anytime if you have questions or need to chat.

Thank you all for the support. It's inspirational to feel the support and hope I can help my fellow quitters as well.

I've tried quitting by myself before, without any support and what miserable failures. Feel bad about yourself. Oh maybe a fresh dip will help. Then the cycle.

One word of advice to any prospective quitters. Don't try Nicorette! The nicotine gum just became a cleaner and more convenient way of pumping nicotine into my system. Totally backfired for me. Going to a movie with wife/girlfriend and can't dip? Just chew a piece of gum. I know for some drugs, a gradually weaning is better for the body. For my nicotine addiction, I think the cold turkey approach is better. Going into Day 3, I feel better physically than I expected. Mentally it's very challenging with the cravings and doing the chores that always seemed easier with a dip, but this site does really help.

Welcome George. You have already been given some pretty good advice from some damned fine quitters, so I will not add much right now. Read all you can, reread it, post roll daily and get involved with other quitters in your group is what I would recommend doing right now. I sent you a PM with my telephone number on it...use it if you need to vent, rage or just shoot the shit about quitting or anything else. We are here to help, but the burden of letting others know you are struggling is on your shoulders. Congratulations on taking back your life. Wayne

Great decision to quit George! Great advice so far for you as well. Read everything here on KTC, and get the knowledge about the enemy: nicotine! Cold turkey is the only way we quit here; reducing levels of nic only prolongs the suffering, and after day 3 you should have all the poison out of your system. Now it is all mental... Read up and get the tools you need to stay quit. Also as it is Friday, make sure you have a plan for your first weekend of quit. Keep your phone charged and ready with some #s (PM me if you need another), and get on KTC if you are struggling. Live chat is a great tool for killing craves and time.

As soon as you started posting you became a valuable member of the site. You've already quoted on several intros. I would say your helping others more that you even know. Keep it up brother. Your got a great quit started. One day at a time and you can have back a lot of what the poison has stolen. Never again for any reason and you can keep it.

Once again, what a great bunch of guys and gals on this site. I am an engineer and a bit of a loner in the real world, so I always had this attitude that I can and will fix whatever need to be fixed by myself. Whether it's cars, plumbing, electronics, I've been good at fixing things that are broken. And asking for help felt like a sign of weakness to me.

I guess as we get older and ultimately fail more, one can only hope that we learn from our failures. I dipped for 30 years always thinking I could quit if I want. Like us all on KTC, we realize it's not anywhere near simple or easy. Like a few I've told, I tried to quit using Nicorrette about 5 years ago. God was that a mistake. Maybe the intention is good, but a more convenient and cleaner way to pump nicotine into my system didn't help me quit, it made me a bigger addict.

Going full on with no nicotine and the support of KTC is the only way to go. Got to post roll each and every day and I want to be accountable to my fellow quitters.

Also saw some new quitters in the group. So welcome and I look forward to the HOF with the Flying Fucks (Ducks).

Asking for help was one of the most difficult parts of my quit as well. I have always felt that asking for help was a massive blow to my pride; something that has made my years as a poor college student all the more difficult. I will agree that asking this group of crazy fuckers for help is the best choice an addict could possibly make.

Glad to see your quit is still going strong. I quit with you today brother.

Great job on deciding to quit George. I know it is a hard decision to give up something you have had your hole life and it will not be easy. This site and the group you are in are your family to and together we all will help you get through this quit so you don't have to go it alone. Keep on posting in here and helping others cause by helping others you help yourself. if I can help in any way let me know.

Hey George, I have been sleep deprived for almost 14 days but i'm starting to catch up. find my sleep quality better than before. At least now I don't wake up in the middle of the night having to throw in a fattty. Sleep and the weird dreams have been sorta tough but not enough to go back to that lying c**t.

Still going strong fellow quitters, but have been so damn irritable last couple of days. Day 14 going and thought it would be behind me, but then I start to look at the bigger picture and see I am nowhere near killing the beast yet. I will, but it will be a prolonged battle.

I am 42 and have been dipping for 30 years. That's more the 3/4 of my life. Much of it during those teenage and young adult years that are so critical in your brain development. Before the last 2 weeks, hadn't gone more than a week without nicotine in last 30 years. Yes, maybe the nicotine from my last dip is well out of my system, but still need to reprogram the addiction wiring in my brain. Sorry to ramble, but just needed to reach out to the folks that really know what we are all going through.

Still fighting the battle to get through today and start over again tomorrow.

George, Yep, I'm irritable too. so fuck US, lol

We are in this together. I have been very irritable. Try getting Christmas together with families that are forged together by divorce, third marriages etc.. It sucks. At one point yesterday I was willing to cancel Christmas for everybody until my jaw felt like dealing with it. OK, that was just a thought but a good one.

You like to shoot guns??? I have the land, the wild boar, the deer, the turkey or just the wide open space. Come shoot some shit with me brother. That's an open invitation to any of my KTC family.

I need a release and my bride needs a break. I'm sure yours does too. Let's kick this crap together my friends.

Praying for Punkin..... any updates from him????

I'll second the shooting suggestion. Haven't bagged a deer yet, but I've been getting lots of extra shooting in to blow off steam. There's just something about the crack of the gun and the kick to the shoulder that feels great.

Some mighty fine quitting going on here. ;)

Irritability will fade with time. You will be amazed at how much better you handle situations/life/stress. In time you will began uncovering all the lies you have believed. Its one thing for us to tell you, but its another to experience it. Stay the course my friend. Great things coming.

30 years of use. Your in for a treat. Its a whole new and better life. Quit with you today.

I agree. Realize that 14 days is still early brother. 30 years of damage can't be fixed in 14 days. Getting your body back functioning normal minus nicotine will take time. All good things take time  you are on the right path. I like how you are recognizing the irritability. That is a big! Work on it and try to power thru it. It will get better. Keep battling. Quit with you all day!

Today we are leaving the land of Lincoln and headed north. We are headed to upstate New York to pick up a married man with 2 beautiful daughters and his name is GeorgeHayduke. George is a civil engineer who has engineered a good plan to stay quit by making it this far and by pledging to quit for 100 more days. George started dipping at the ripe old age of 13. He decided to call it quits because he was tired of lying about it and the future health ramifications. George is going to be bringing some old style beer to share as we ride across the country and if he gets out of hand, we should call his wife. He says that he will be enjoying a nice bottle of wine and hitting the ski slopes with the family to celebrate hitting the HOF. George drives a 2002 big green chevy suburban to work. This quitter is not all work and no play because he says that he enjoys the outdoors and loves to go hiking, biking and loves golf.

George says that hes not really afraid of anyone getting on his ass but if they do get on your ass, you probably deserve it. George says that to be successful in your quit you need to find some fellow quitters to connect with, get to know them and keep in touch with them because it really helps to have brothers to lean on in the dark times plus it adds to the accountability. George wants to give props to Kevans830, GizzlyHasClaws, TxTornado, Mogul and Griffdog for helping him make it this far.

Congrats man.. 100 days!!
