I was a chewer for 18 years. For the last decade or so, I was ordering the Swedish snus because it was "safer". I'd tell myself that it was a safer known carcinogen...
If I chewed the pouches, I'd go through a can every two days; the loose would last me 3 days.
Sure, I've had a few quit attempts. One lasted 6 months. I was helping a friend (who also dipped) move. I thought I could handle just one more, which I couldn't.
I tried many times to quit using nicotine lozenges. One of two things would happen with the lozenges. Either I'd end up consuming more nicotine using them or I'd use them as supplemental nicotine.
I tried the patches, but found they itched terribly and messed with my head.
So, I pulled it together and decided to go for a full on quit.
The first three days were terrible. Colleagues were constantly asking me if I was feeling all right. I'd wake at night and have to change my shirt because of the sweats.
It continues to get easier with every day, but the nic demons are still there trying to convince me that I can just have one more. I find that keeping a supply of gum on hand has really helped me work through the cravings.
I just keep remembering how awful the first week was. I don't want to repeat it. I also think of my upcoming milestones. 2 weeks is 50 days. July 5 is 100 days.
I'm tired of being a slave to the nicotine. I'm tired of planning my days around the habit. I'm tired of planning trips around my habit. I'm tired of worrying about mouth cancer.
I'm ready to be honest about my addiction. I'm ready to be accountable. I'm ready to not cop-out that it's only "one chew"...

Thanks. It was difficult for me to find the roll call thing. I think I did it right.
I have been reading the site since I threw out my stash of 34 cans on 3/27/16. I've printed the "Contract To Give Up" and am keeping it in my cube as a reminder. Also helps to have colleagues hold me accountable.

You did great! The next step is to pick a topic and weigh in on it, or better yet, start your own topic. This will help you get to know your group better.

Why I love Kill The Can.
If you do any cursory search of tobacco and quitting, about 95% of the results are about quitting smoking.
Why the dipping and smoking habits are similar, there are key differences.
For me, I could dip anywhere, anytime. I never had to make special arrangements for my habit. I dipped in many inappropriate places.
I like that if I become a slacker posting roll, that I'll get my chops busted. Accountability matters.
I like that I have several people I can text/call if I find myself at 7-11 thinking about a can.
I like that people going through the same thing are so willing to give.

The only way to screw up roll is by not posting.
Congrats on the quit decision! Get involved in the site and read around. Lots to do to help distract your craving. Lots of information to help you. Read some intros and HOF speeches. You can see There are some we have on here that even show what not to do. Like, don't keep a can around you to 'ease your mind' or whatever BS one wants to purvey. Quit on, Man!
Just for today, Self.

Some of us realized early on that the only way to keep what we have is to give it away. I think after a while of sobriety from Nic you will find that is true. If you need anything. Please, feel free to PM me. If you want my number, ask. I personally feel it shows more accountability when one asks for numbers. Glad you are with us.
