Title: For real this time...
Post by: trenchfoot on June 16, 2014, 11:01:00 PM
I first tried dipping a little over 5 years ago. I was introduced to it when I was in the Navy by a fellow sailor when we were deployed. I hated it at first, but it helped me stay awake during long watches or missions, and soon it became a habit. Sometimes I could go a month without dipping, but I always ended up coming back to it. I always said that I would quit once I was a civilian again. Well, I got out of the Navy last September, and I finally decided to quit two weeks ago.

Living in San Diego, and losing one of our favorite sons today in Tony Gwynn, has me determined to make sure that this time is the last time I have to quit.

I've perused the site before, but now that I have truly decided that I no longer want to dip, I figure that I can use all the help I can get.

I had this web site bookmarked for the last year, read through some stuff, but kept on dipping. I said I would quit dipping when I had my son...he will be 3 in August. I said I would quit dipping if I passed the FDNY Chief exam...that was 6 months ago in December 2013. I re-started dipping 8 years ago...to stop smoking, which I did for 8 years. I thought my days of dipping were going to be over once I left college and playing baseball. The only thing I have been doing is making excuses.
Today I decided is the day I WILL STOP DIPPING! I grew up watching Tony Gwynn and so sorry to see him pass. The reason I came here tonight is the quote on Tony Gwynn Jr.'s Twitter, talking about losing his Dad, his best friend, his mentor...it just got to me, a day after Father's Day. I had my son late in life, at 37, and my wife and I had some difficulty having him. He is our world. I thought if I passed away at 54, my son would be in high-school, without a Father...

I need help from you guys, my new brothers! Lets Do This!!

Trench,

So if you've decided to quit, read our opening line about Day 1'ers on the September quit page. If you're man enough to comply, we invite you to post. If you're not serious, please keep walking. Thanks
