Title: 1st post
Post by: Steve B on August 17, 2013, 04:52:00 AM
Hello everyone. This is my first day on the site and also the end of the first day of quitting chewing.
My name is Steven I'm from Rocklin Ca. I'm 32 years old and have been chewing mostly Skoal mint for 16 years.
I bought 5 cans of bacc off pouches in preparation for today and I am so thankful that I did. Today was rough and I tried to sleep but it didn't really work so good so then I started searching for a forum for quitters and boom here I am.

I'm not sure what else y'all need or want to know but I have nothing to hide lmk if I need to add information to this post.

You've come to the right place. If you want to make this happen, I highly advise you have integrity and listen to what us quitters here have to say. You will have all the support, but if you betray us and stop showing up or cave in, you have better explain yourself.

This site is no nicotine, cold turkey. Nicotine gum, patch, ecig become a crutch and then an anchor. The only way to truly kick this addiction is to just quit. You need to have the respect and integrity to actually quit, not just a false pledge to us.

There are guys on here that have after 25+ years of dipping, some two cans per day. I dipped a can a day for nearly 9 years.... if I can do it, you can do it. You have to want this to quit, not for anyone else. You have own it, which means integrity and accountability.

Like I said, don't blow smoke up any of our asses, we have worked hard to quit and stay quit. It's a slap in face to continue using while posting roll and an insult to those who are serious.

I'd highly advise getting in touch with those who vets who have commented on your introduction, they will be there for you. They will be a sponge for the rage and withdrawals. But under no circumstances will you use nicotine.

With that, lets be quit together. I will quit for you and you will quit for me.

Be sure you have thrown it all out, then come in over the light side and post roll to begin a long tough and bitch of a journey... but worthwhile!

Thank you for the reply Rob. I'm not a bullshitter I'm somewhere in day 2 with 0 tobacco used in the last 35 hours roughly. I'm sincere about this whole deal I've done a lot of research on quitting and also signed up for help from Kaiser hospitals stop tobacco people but I have to wait until Monday for them to call me. I am using bacc off pouches but I think they are making me feel kinda dizzy like when I lean my head back I feel light headed.

What is come in over the light side?

Welcome Steve! Great decision... I'm not sure about the light side unless he's referring to the juxtaposition of its relation to the dark side which might be a star wars metaphor but I'm just not sure. I'm no expert by any means but I did stay at a holiday inn last night and I know there's a light reddish colored welcome tab up top there you might want to take a gander at. After that, maybe head on over to your quit group... November '13 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=8568)~~~~ click here. You'll hit the hall of fame (100 days quit) with most of these folks so get to know them, get some numbers and post your promise every morning, no matter what. It could save your life, maybe even someone else's.

Welcome to the site steve.

First thing I want to say is you don't need kaiser institute. You are right where you need to be. Your already quit for 30 plus hours. Sounds to me like your doing it. This site will help you more than you can even imagine, you just have to jump in.

We make a pledge every day not to use nicotine in any form. In the welcome center read on how and why we post roll. Pay particular attention to why. In your group you will get to know some bad ass quitters like yourself that are taking their life back one day at at time. Don't hesitate to give some folks your digits and they will in turn give you there's. That's how this all works,, accountability.

Read, read, and read. Learn everything you can about your enemy steve. There is so much information on this site that will help you uncover all the lies that your brain believes about nicotine. Knowing this enemy is half the battle.

You will have a lot of symptoms while quitting.. Dizziness and light headed is one. The first three days we call going through the fog. It will take 72 hours to be rid of nicotine in you body then it's all a mind game. If you need anything give me a pm.

Welcome Steve,

Read everything on here, post roll call each morning and don't dip. Wow....that sounds so easy, doesn't it?

You are in the November group so post there.

Go load yourself up with gum, mints, fake chew, seeds and beef jerky. Also get some member phone numbers right now, they will help you through the rough parts.

Next, exercise to exhaustion every single day and drink so much water that you feel like you may bust. Both of these will help.

Make sure your wife reads about what you are going through. 99% chance that you are going to be a short fussed dick for the next 3-4 weeks. Try not to take it out on her and the kids. Get on here and take it out on us.

This is going to be one nasty fight but you can do it. The dizziness is likely the beginning of the fog, it sucks but it doesn't last too long.

I quit with you.

Wow thank you all for posting back.
At 4pm today I will be at the 48 hour mark so almost to the first check point. I am so tired I didn't sleep worth a crap last night ooh I should also mention I work nights so I may be sleeping why you guys are posting and I may be posting back while y'all are sleeping.
Again thank you ALL for the replies, this is one hell of a hard thing to do and my patience with the family is thin I just don't want to talk really at all about anything with people.
I wish I could just sleep for the next 30 hours.

Also I am flying through bacc off pouches.
Why do I constantly feel the need to have a pouch in??
It seems like I have a pouch in right now more than when I was a chewer.

That's easy, you are used to having something in your mouth so you are putting in a fake chew.

Your body is confused and it's trying to pull some nic out of the fakie and it's not working so it's telling your brain to put some more in your lip.

Don't worry and use all the fake dip you want, that habit will go away on it's on. I dipped every second I was awake for 35 years and when I quit, I went through 4 fake cans and then never bothered to buy another one. It amazes me how quickly I was fine without something in my mouth.

Like Dawg said don't worry about anything but staying nicotine free for the day and posting roll. I mention posting roll because if I'm not mistaken you still haven't made that promise to your November group!

Welcome home Steve. Come post roll with us in November 13. Quit together, not apart. We are stronger that way. Ill be sending my number along to you so feel free to use it anytime. Link up with some dudes on this site and start getting to know people and letting them get to know you. When we become real to one another it is much more difficult to lie or turn your back on a brother. And the lies WILL come: just ONE more, I can handle it this time, I'm not really an addict, etc. I you've ever tried to quit before you know the deal. That shit is cunning and deceptive though and I can't tell you the number of times I've fell into believing the bullshit again. Never again! I got my squad here at KTC and am staying honest and open with them. Turns out there are some really cool people here. It sucks for a few days in the beginning but after that its a hell of a lot of fun. Take your life back and do something truly amazing!

Peace

Little victory tonight I was scared going but I went to a baseball game with guys from work and I'm still going strong no dip what so ever.
I just made sure to stay sober so I didn't get all crazy and do stuff I would regret.
I tried to read how to post roll from a link but the link didn't work.
I did click on my November group though and check it out. I'm clean and I have no worries about posting roll.

The only victory worth a damn around here is you putting your name, promise and number of days quit in Nov. '13 every fucking day, no matter what. Everything else is secondary and barely relevant. Follow the links... copy, cut and paste your way to freedom.

I dis agree with your post almost entirely and your post pisses me off and makes me want to shove this site up your ass.
Once some gave me link on how to do it I posted roll immediately other wise I would have had to wait until I got to work to watch the video that I cannot get to load. I was never trying to avoid posting roll no one said copy and paste the fucking list. I tried to click the link but the video wouldn't load.

You can do things you are proud of and call them victories if you post roll or not.

Great job on facing a trigger head on. In regard to coping's post: don't sweat it and put on your thick skin. There are only two "rules" here:

Post roll every day.
Don't use nicotine in any form.

In any event, it takes a while to get a hang of the KTC forum. You will get the hang of it quickly. Just keep beating the nic bitch into the ground every damn day.

I'm glad you're here!

Hey Steve, feel free to shove whatever you'd like where ever you'd like, except gerbils. They seem to be off limits. The important thing is you posted roll. It's a sacred promise and it wasn't there when I made this comment. You have to understand, there're a bunch of folks that drive by, take a peakyboo and don't have the nads to step up and make a promise. That, to me is pretty frustrating because the freedom and peace I've found here is here for the taking. But nothing happens if you don't make that promise every day... That's it, wanna be quit? Post your promise every day. I also sent you a personal message earlier with my number in case you needed me to talk you through. Feel free to shout out if there's anything you need.

I'm sorry Cope. I don't know if day 3 is fight day or what but I just want to smash stuff.
Generally I would never say shit like that and I would never even be upset at what you said but I woke up agitated saw your post and was seriously angry for the bulk of the day today. You probably can't tell now but I'm not an angry person.
I think day 3 has been the hardest so far by a long shot. I'm the most moody and have a bad headache all day plus dizzy / light headedness off and on.

No worries brother! We've all been right there in the middle of the suck. Use this place as a sound board, get it off your chest and buffer the family. After three days the nicotine is out of your body but your brain hasn't quite caught up to the program. You got this, quitting means never having to say you're sorry. :P Congrats and Welcome!

Welcome brother. If you ever get tired of cursing at cope I'm also available. Like cope said brother, bring it here. We can take it.

Day 4 if I'm seeing things right.

Here's what you need to do. Might take the edge off. Jump on the first flight out to Alaska when your able. Take some climbing gear with you. There are some of the highest Peaks in the world there. Find the highest one you can. Climb it brother. Might need to take some oxygen with you, the air may be a little thin.

When you get to the top take a good look nicotine free. For years you have been observing the world with nicotine blurring your vision and desensitizing your emotions. Welcome to freedom. Smell it, taste it and feel it.

Now if Alaska is a little to far and hard then just step out your front door. Same thing. Glad to be quit with you.

I just woke up to Day 4 and I feel a lot better than I did yesterday.
Day 3 was the worst and I don't ever want to feel like that again.
You are right though bro I just woke up with the urge to workout so exercise is on my list for the first time in a long time.
I haven't lifted since I stopped playing football in college and I'm curious to see what I can bench and squat.
Overall I'm proud to be on Day 4

The train is headed out west again today to pick up our newest Sky Diver to reach the HOF, SteveB!

Steve is a married quitter that lives in Southern California with his wife and two daughters. He has used smokeless tobacco since he was 15, Skoal mint and mint bandits were his poison of choice. Steve works as a warehouse manager and is getting ready to make a big move to Lubbock, Texas! He plans to sign for 200 days saying that he can't imagine moving to Texas without KTC on his side. We like that plan brother! Steve plans to celebrate his entrance to the HOF by ordering himself a HOF coin. He mentioned Gorilla as an inspiration and his words of wisdom for everyone were to use anything at your disposal to stay quit early on, fake stuff, doctor's Rx just no tobacco! He also shared this short experience from early on in his quit;
"At the beginning when I was in the fog and pissed off I told coping without Copenhagen to shove KTC where the sun doesn't shine and he replied you can shove what ever you want just post roll everyday.
That's when I figured out the magic of this website people just want to help each other even though I was a total jerk to him he just wanted me to post roll because he knew that was the secret to staying clean."

Congratulations Steve on reaching 100 days!

Just a fair warning about Lubbock Steve (besides it flat, dusty and ugly).

I think it has more dippers per capita than any place on earth.

My Nephew and Niece go Tech so we catch some football games with them and the amount of dippers freak me out.

At the Baylor/Tech game last week, I counted 9 kids dipping in the roll in front of me and that was without even turning my head.

Congrats on HOF!!!!!!!!
