I quit chewing tobacco on 10/12
Making today day 12 for me.
After chewing for 9 years I have finally decided to call it quits.
Its been a wild ride so far, but unlike anytime in the past where I "tried" I am resolute this time that I have had enough. I have wasted my money enough, I have left the house to run and get a tin more than enough times in my life and I don't need to any more.
Thanks

congrats on a great decision (you don't even know yet how great). Brother, this is hard stuff, but it's doable. You've already started right by posting roll. Now just concentrate on keeping your word.. There is a TON of stuff to help with that on the web. You've obviously read a bit, so keep it up.
Post early, post often. Don't let a waking second go by without being bound by your post (your promise not to dip). Post with the BOMB (may12) if you want some extra accountability, or you just want to feel cool. I'm excited for you! (no homo)

Ben,
Welcome to the jan14 killers. Right at the buzzer too. This is going to be a good ride but we have to do it together. I quit with you today. See you on roll tomorrow. Be strong.

Welcome to KTC Ben. What matters around here is that you want to quit for you. As you may suspect, most of the 16,000 boys and girls on this site are pretty hard core quitters that donÂ’t want to listen to any reasons, excuses or rationale for using nicotine. And they wonÂ’t listen no matter how hard you sugar coat it. What they will do is provide you with the tools to quit and help you along that rough patch of track. They will be there for you every step of the way to freedom. They will be there when you are hurting, when you are in the suck, when you feel like raging, venting or just talking to someone on the phone. Around here, we call that Brotherhood. First and foremost, you will need to post Roll. Roll is your daily promise to yourself and all of your new brothers and sisters that you will not use tobacco in any form that day. You will post your name and the number of days you are quit each day in the January 2014 quit group. Each and every day you will post your promise. No exceptions. That is the price of admission to KTC. Nothing more and nothing less. The reason you are put in January is that will be the month if you join us today that you will celebrate being 100 days free of nicotineÂ…your Hall of Fame date.
Now that you know the basics, it is time to read all you can on this site. Go to the welcome center tab at the top of this screen and that will get you started. Post roll and look up at your inbox (1). That is a personal message from me with my telephone number. Glad to see you took control of your life. Wayne

I wont be making any excuses. And I won't be using nicotine ever again.
I read the Tom Kern story here and everything really hit home for me.. I have 4 children like he did. I love them more than anything in this world, and if I took myself out of their lives before teaching them everything I know it would be very sad..
Also.. Now that I am 12 days in.. the first 12 days in my 9 year old sons life that I haven't chewed, I am resolute that I will never relive these 12 days again.. 12 days of thinking in a fog. 12 days of my mouth feeling weird.
Also, I don't want to tell them that I quit on quitting.. When I told my 9 year old son (my tough as nails 9 year old son who is the biggest stud on his football team) that I quit chewing, he started crying.. Because he was so happy that I finally quit..
I will be posting roll.. I thank you guys for this site, and your support.

Dude, that's some powerful stuff right there. Glad you posted this in your intro. You'll have some craves for a while, but nothing you can't handle. Anytime one hits, get back on here and read that sentence about your son. That is some good quit shit there.
If you need another number let me know. Quitting is the best decision you've ever made.

Impressive start. Great show of strength going that many days solo. I hope that you can use that same bravado to quit like a beast daily. Get to know your group and other people on here and you will be amazed what their support will mean to your quit.
You get out of KTC what you put into it. Posting Roll daily is the minimum I would like to see an individual like yourself do more than the minimum. There is a ton of helpful and distracting thing on here that can and will help you.
Welcome to the group brother.

That is an impressive solo start. You are likely to have several good days coming but I want you to use these days to recharge your batteries and get ready for a lot more fight. Day 11-30 were what I called my cruise control days and everything was going pretty good. Day 31 hit and it was like starting all over again.
My "suck scale" looked something like this:
Day 1-3: bad fog, my brain didn't work at all. Very little sleep and couldn't take a dump to save my life. I wanted a dip every second of each day.
Day 4-10: Pretty much out of the fog but bad, bad cravings and headache every second of the day
Day 11-14: My cruise control days, I didn't think about dipping much and craves were few and far between. Sleeping good but too much.
Day 15-21 Starting to get my energy level back up. Craves about 2-4 per day and short. The first thing every morning, I started to get an empty and sick feeling in my stomach when I thought about not being able to dip. Started losing my temper easily.
Day 22-25 No real changes, cruising along but feeling a little depressed. I started learning how to hate my addiction and was really mad about it.
Day 26- 30: Wow, I was starting to gain a lot of weight. Weird how I replaced Cope with Ice Cream and cake. I don't even eat sweets but here I am 10 lbs heavier. I don't care, I'm not dipping and the craves are mild.
Day 31-38: Freaking fog was back, some nasty craves and my temper way out of control. WTF!
Day 39-60: The roller coaster days. Mod craves followed by no craves, bad temper and mild depression. A difficult time but I was not giving up at this point.
Day 61-73: The best days by far. Seldom think about dip, temper is way better, sleeping like a normal person and just feeling pretty darn good. I am stacking up these good days to recharge my batteries and prepare for the next round of fights".
Day 74- 85: Really good days. Strong cravings when I have too many drinks so I have been careful with drinking. Normal days are now 0-1 crave. My temper has been completely under control for 2 weeks now.
Day 86-96: Zero craves, zero dip dreams and temper under control. The strong craves when I drink are also gone. I am disgusted when I see someone dip. Proudly watching my group hit HOF one at a time; which is just how we quit, one day at a time. My guard is still held high as I know the fight is far from over.

Great job of posting roll today Ben. You have my telephone number if you need it. Get more numbers from the other quitters in January '14 quit group...they will be glad to share if you ask. Make that 9 year old proud of his daddy.
-
When I told my 9 year old son (my tough as nails 9 year old son who is the biggest stud on his football team) that I quit chewing, he started crying.. Because he was so happy that I finally quit..
Wow! THAT's what this is all about. Thanks for the dose of inspiration. Hold on tight to that memory and should you have a moment of "just one", think about your son. Talk about a layer of accountability.

So tonight I was watching "My 600 pound life" with my wife and it was about this woman who started her journey weighing something like 650 pounds..
It was a two part thing where this woman dropped 500 pounds and had her dream realized of becoming pregnant.
What was really interesting for me to watch and consider was the process she went through.. She was a food addict and I am a nicotine addict. Early in the process she struggled, her addict brain told her to do things like hide food and be dishonest about how much she had been eating, it was a watershed moment for her when she was confronted by her true weight.. Much like we have many quitters come in because of some scary encounter with a dentist or a doctor. And when she did start the process she had food dreams about eating a whole pizza just like we have dip dreams.. Its not just the body thats addicted, its the mind....
But as time went on she realized her life changed, she didn't shake the fact that she was addicted, rather she embraced everything about her "quit". She became a patient liason and paid it forward. She had overcome being fat and now actually made her living helping new "quitters" explaining the process, explaining the challenges they would face..
Obviously it made me think of this place and the bad ass quitters here who not only have made their own lives better by making the decision to quit tobacco, but pay it forward every single day helping new quitters get on their feet and get their bearings in their new path in life.
And it made me think how grateful I am for this place, for you quitters, and for my friends here.
Thank you

Thanks for posting this, it's helpful to learn about addiction in all forms. And as you approach the Hall of Fame it's good to read where you stand at this point in your quit. Glad to be a Nic Killer with you!

Well done Ben. Keep looking for these little inspirations all around you. It'll help you start to fill the voids of your brain that used to be full of dip ideas. Keep moving towards that HOF, you're earning it ODAAT.

Congrats. I think you know that day 100 is not some magical cure day, but just in case, you're still an addict and I hope you stick around to keep paying it forward. This KTC thing works. Stick with it.

MN_Ben - The Killer Express has now stopped in Zimmerman, MN to pick up this Hastings native. Other than being another badass to make it to the HoF, his day job is to supervise a team of software dudes that write software for retirement account record keeping. He began dipping at 26 years old and his poison of choice was Copenhagen Wintergreen. MN_Ben is bringing some Venison Sticks fresh out of the smoker for everyone to enjoy. In the event of an accident, we are to contact his wife. When asked about celebrating, MN_Ben said that he already told his wife that is steak and (fill in the blank) day. (Ron still hasnÂ’t recovered from the British Virgin Islands stop, so let your minds wander where they may...lol) This quitter is indeed signing up for 200 days.
MN_BenÂ’s declined any words of wisdom other than to say that the January Nic Killers donÂ’t need any words of wisdom from him because theyÂ’re walking the path...now just need to guard their quits. His favorite movie is Tombstone and his favorite movie quote is from The Matrix when Morpheus says: There is a difference between knowing the path, and walking the path. MN_Ben enjoys hunting, fishing, and camping. His favorite avatar...is his own. He is most afraid of Evil Won getting on his ass. He finds inspiration in quitters that came before him and are here everyday paying it forward. (Sure sounds like someone took a sip of that tasty KTC-Kool Aid!) MN_Ben accredits being in the chat room and those badass quitters who lurk in the chat room helping him with his quit. Welcome aboard, MN_Ben, you have earned your spot among the HoF and on the Killer Express!!

I went back and re-read all this, even though my intro is shorter than most.. recalling my son crying when I told him I quit brings a tear to my eye..
If it wasn't for my loyal friends here on KTC I wouldn't be at 200 days. SO thank you, thank you for holding me accountable, thank you for the laughs, thank you for the friendship..
To the next 100 days.. Lets start with quitting today!

Thank you. It feels awesome to have a year in the books.
Today is an awesome day for you Ben. Huge congrats to you. You have been a role model for many, a friend to several more but a badass quitter to everyone! Your day is not only celebrated because of your 365 days of nicotine....it is celebrated because you have helped so many of us save our own lives. I will always remember the day I met you online and the words you said to me that made me quit that night. For that, I am forever grateful.

800 days...
800 days since I altered the course of my life and took control and kicked the nic bitch to the curb. In a way it almost seems like a distant memory now, and in other ways it seems like just yesterday I found my way into the KTC chat room, foggy as fuck, and finding nothing but support, brotherhood and a lot of laughs.
800 days of taking my life back, 81 pounds lighter today than the day I quit.
I owe a lot to the guys who have helped me along the way, and I've met a lot of really really good people, both virtually and in person.
If you are thinking about quitting, do it, you can't change the fact that you've dipped in the past, what you can do is make a change and take control now.

1420 days and life for me is so different from my pre quit life that some would barely recognize me.
1421 days ago I was an obese sedentary software architect who felt defeated. I was at the end of my rope being a slave to tobacco, I was ashamed of what I had let myself become.
Quitting taught me I have strength, and self control. I have applied that to other areas of my life and now I sit here on the verge of competing in an Ironman with my quit brother from Jan 2014 and I have my story told in runners world magazine :)
https://www.runnersworld.com/the-human- ... s-new-life (https://www.runnersworld.com/the-human-race/big-man-small-changes-new-life)
