Title: 8 days in
Post by: nsg4 on July 08, 2013, 09:18:00 PM
Today is day 8, I've been reading things here for about 2 weeks after a relative turned me here who is a member. I am 26 years old, and have chewed since I was 20. I started on long leaf, then to pouches, and then nothing but snuff, about 3 cans a week. I have known I had a problem for a while, and wanted to quit but haven't. I am now. I want to thank my relative for sending me here, I think I will be able to hold on to my resolve this way. I felt like I didn't need to join, I could do it without, but I was texting my uncle everyday to tell him I was still quit, if I didn't he would text me. That is similar to role call as I understand it, so here I am.

I am new to forums, I just never did this sort of thing, so bare with me as I try to navigate and do role call, if I can't figure it out, Ill still post something.....

Hopefully I will see my dad here soon. He quit once before for a long time....Then I started, and we had a dip together one day. Then I saw a can in the garage one day at his house, and I see it has increased a lot since then, and that is partially my fault.

So I quit July 1st, his birthday, while he was on vacation. He got back Sunday. Today I told him I quit, and he needs to also. I am hoping since he did once, he will again if I do, we can do this together, then I can fix it.

Don't get me wrong, I am quitting for me, I have to, before its to late, but I feel like I need to for him to be able to, and of course my wife, who has put up with it, and been silent, though her facial expressions sometimes told it all.

Like the time my landlord asked us to stop in, we're within shouting distance, and they were grilling with their family. I hid that I dipped because it embarrassed me around certain people, it made me feel dumb. Well I thought I could hide it, and then they offered me a fork of meat right of the grill to try, one of those quick "here try this" and I couldn't cause I had to spit my dip out first, which I couldn't do on his side walk, in front of his grandkids, and their parents. I had to refuse, and he looked at me like I was weird, and then it clicked to him. He and my wife just looked at me like some silly disgusting thing, just standing there.....I could tell she was more embarrassed than me, saying to herself, "this one time, you couldn't just not have one"

I know that story may sound silly to some, but its one of those, you had to be there.....I felt like an idiot, and think of it every time I'm around that family now.

This bring me to my next issue, I have had mild symptoms of quitting, compared to what I've read on here, mostly bad craves, but the worst are like chew memories. When Im driving, or working, zoned out, I am remembering specific days or events I chewed. Days which I would never think about other wise. Try to think of every day for the last 3 weeks....they're a little foggy right, you can't possibly remember every mundane detail of your life. Yet I am remembering mundane events in my past life that I had a dip in for. It's strange, something just triggers it. It tell you how potent this stuff is, and the hold it gets on your brain. It doesn't make me want one any more than usual, but I am just thinking about it. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Nice intro. I know the embarrassed feeling. There were only a handful of people who knew I dipped toward the end because I felt ashamed. Looks like you have a good head on your shoulder. Post up daily and get involved here. Let me know if you ever need anything.

Your story isn't unusual at all. For me I got to where I'd just go ahead and gut it so I could sample that BBQ. My wife was the only one that knew I used and I lied to her continually. Get it done, post roll and drink deep of the quit koolaid. Don't be like this old fool I waited 40 years to quit. If I can do it so can you! Posting roll will prove your integrity and lead to success.

You've come to the right place young brother! Man... I wish I was smart enough at your age to have quit. Do this now, do this right. Head on up to the Welcome Center in the banner at the top of the page. It explains how and why we do things here at KTC. I'll quit with you every day man... So will all the quitters here. We got your back because we know what it's gonna take... We know what you're gonna go through... We know how to help you. Drop me a pm if you need ANYTHING!

Make sure you have some gum, seeds, fake, whatever you need in case a craving hits. You do not want to be driving around looking for something, too many bad options. Also make sure you have phone numbers ready.

Lastly, be prepared to find some stash cans if you are cleaning the garage, car etc. I found that shit all over the place for the first month or two of my quit. Just be prepared to dump the shit as quickly as you found it.

Keep posting...you are winning.

STAY QUIT

Take it out of the trash and flush it down the toilet. We all know we have gotten cans or pouches out of the trash.

Flush that shit and get it gone...

Ahh,, the trash. Like that is a safe place!! I once washed a can with my jeans. Pulled the can out and took a test pinch to check if the poisonous detergent had entered the can.

Correct me of I'm wrong,, that'll kill you quicker than the poisonous cancerous can. What idiot does that?? This one. No can was safe unless it wasn't there at all.

Yea,, That taste stayed in my mouth for the rest of the day. All be damned if I'm going to have to waste another 5 bucks when I have a perfectly fine can of Wiskzzly..

Yea,,, I was an idiot. This wasn't the first time, nor the last the poison demonstrated the power it had over me.

On February 14th at 1:30 I took back that power. No more does the poison lead me around by a chain. It had me bound gagged and tied. If you have a second I think you would enjoy my HOF speech. It's in my signature line. Glad to be quit with ya'll today.

Today is day 22, and the first day after a big test. I camped form friday to sunday, and survived without a dip. It was hard a couple of times, but I made and still had fun, it can be done.

Great job on your camping trip. I like fishing and outdoors also. 158 days ago i thought fishing and chewing were the same,,,,, false! I enjoy fishing more than ever now. I got a few more dollars for bait and i don't have to make sure i have enough poison for the trip. Shoot, i would have forgot my fishing pole before i left my chew behind. If i forgot my chew i would have had a miserable time. Probably stopped fishing and left.. If i was catching a Fish every 5 minutes,, still wouldn't of enjoyed it. HOW SAD!

Don't need it never Did. Doesn't help us enjoy anything. Only thing it does is keep the addiction and lies fed. Quit with you bro.

Fishing. I grew up about 5 miles from one of the biggest and best state rum trout hatcheries in the country. Opening day one year my big mug was on the news casting with a big smile and a fat lip. Oops. Got suspended for a few days in high school for that "sickness."

Everyone seems to chew and fish. In that order. I thought, like Srans, that they went hand in hand. Also like Srans, I've found that they don't. I was back at Bennett Springs for opening day this year and it was so great to be free. To not have to think about whether I left the can in the car. Or if I had a spit bottle. Or how far away the next store was if kodiak was unavailable. Or whether this would be the one that finally have me cancer.

Enough of that. The greatest thing was how good the goddamn fish tasted! I always thought trout was wintergreen flavored. Bass too. And crappie, catfish, and walleye. Who knew!?!?

Congratulations. Glad you are here.

The next stop on the HOF is Northeast Ohio to pick up nsg4! Nsg4 is married without children and started dipping when he 19. He plans on celebrating HOF with his father-in-law that is about a month in as an ex-smoker after 30 years! Congrats to him too! NSG4 is a teacher so he elected not to respond to inappropriate behavior and made no mention of doing anything crazy. When he is not teaching class he enjoys driving around in his F150 and hunting small furry critters.
He is bringing some damn good words of wisdom on the train “At the end of the day people have to make their own choice, but if every person quit could help two non-quitters do the same… we’d save a lot of people…” Pay it forward and backwards guys the KTC way!
Nsg4 would like to thank Runner223 for being an inspiration to his quit- he was an example to nsg4 of how to quit the right way; the KTC way.
His favorite quote is a good one for a bunch of quitters too! “Once more into the fray, into the last good fight I’ll ever know, live and die on this day, live and die on this day…” The Grey.
