Okay, I am a first timer. I read most all the rules, but if I screw this up somehow please accept my apology. I am a dipper of 22 years. I got started when I was playing baseball back in high school. A buddy of mine got me started with pouches, then I progressed into Copenhagen, then Skoal, then Kodiak, back to Skoal, Timberwolf, etc. Basically any kind of shit I could put in my mouth I would. And let's be honest, it doesn't "taste great". You wouldn't replace a ribeye with this shit. After doing research on this site, it is amazing the amount of chemicals just 1 little dip has. I can't believe how I have allowed this dirt to change who I am or have control over me. I too have had sores in my mouth thinking it was cancer, promising to stop, only to continue dipping. Same thing with stomach pains. Now I am a 38 year old married man with 2 young daughters. I exercise frequently, eat right, drink mostly right. The only thing I do bad is the dipping. Well, that is going to stop. I want to be around to see my daughters grow up. I want to see their kids. I want to stop living in fear, because every time I have any kind of stomach pain, mouth, throat pain, I immediately think of the worst. Getting cancer wouldn't even be the worst thing. It would be the financial loss from it. Insurance wouldn't cover anything. I would leave my family broke and/or in debt. I can't do that to them. They deserve better. I deserve better. I have tried quitting before, with my longest tenure being 8 months. Then I slipped back into the rut from just 1 measly dip. 1 little old dip. Well, this time it won't happen again. I guess I had to learn by experiencing it first hand.
So this Christmas evening, 2013, I sat my family down and had a talk with them. I showed them what snuff is. Told them how I got started. I asked them to be patient with me while I go through the symptoms. I believe getting them involved has kick started me big time. I knew I would get a little agitated at some point. Yesterday I did (after about 18 hours of no snuff--I was a half can a day guy). My oldest daughter did exactly what I told her to do when I got mean, she said "Daddy, don't take it out on us. We believe in you, you can do it." When you hear those words coming out of the mouth of an 8 year old, it just melts your heart. I know I will succeed in quitting this time. Failure is NOT an option. I chose to start dipping, I choose to stop. I know it isn't going to be easy, and I hope you guys don't mind me rambling on and on like this. I probably won't always be this wordy. I just had to put my cards on the table so you know where I am coming from.

This site can help you kick your nicotine addiction (not a habit) to the curb. We don't use words like try or hope as they are just another excuse for our addictive brains to tell us another lie. There are no short cuts, but here are some links that will help you navigate this site.
This a NO NICOTINE site. End of discussion. Why this Site Works (http://www.killthecan.org/about/why.asp)
Best thing to do is get familiar with this site and start building your quit defense.
Highly recommend you go here: Welcome Center (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showforum=13), Getting Acclimated (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=7614), What to Expect (http://www.killthecan.org/yourquit/what.asp) Top Ten List (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=8382)
Your quit Decision (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=1791&view=findpost&p=4771433) MUST be 100% about you. Anything short of that sets you up for failure by allowing your addict brain to blame a given situation as reason for you to go back to the can. Quitting out of fear, based on a medical issue, will fade as soon as the doctor or dentist gives you a clean bill of health.
Post Roll every day or communicate with someone and have them post via text, email or call. Get as many number of your group as you can and use them frequently. Keep in touch with your quit brothers. Send them a PM, text or call every few days just to keep an open line of communication. Give them your email address. Make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to go a day without several people contacting you all day if you don't post roll.
You want another layer of accountability? Come post in my room every morning after you post roll in yours April 2012 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=5688&st=0)

Welcome, and congratulations on your decision and your success so far. I really admire how you made your family part of you quit, and how your daughter responded. Keep on taking care of them as you go. It will be really tough at times but that will make your quit stronger in the end.
If you haven't, go the the Welcome Center, a salmon colored link toward the upper left of the page. Then, post role in your class (April 2014) first thing each day. You will get a lot more support and tips from some seasoned quitters, and from others who are only a little farther along than you. Start to exchange numbers, etc. and build a network of accountability and support for yourself- I can't even describe how valuable that has proven to me. That network, plus the education you get from reading everything on this site, is the difference for this 30+ year chewer. I will not go back ever again. Join me in this quit of a lifetime!
I see where CBird has already started you out with some good tips- he's a heck of a guy to have in your corner! More will show up for you too-- you can do this, just work the site as much as you can!

Congrats, sounds as though your resolve is strong and the decision is made. You read the rules and understand them, so go post roll. Pull the trigger and get to it. Day two is bad ass. We all quit ODAAT here. I too am 38 have a daughter 7 years and dipped over a can of nasty ass cope for twenty + years.
8 months,,,,, the difference this time is this site and the brotherhood within. Accountability and a promise made daily = quit today. Wake up and repeat = +1+1+1+1. I found your intro post impressive, now get over to April and post your promise to us and we will quit with you as hard as we have to! Erussell day 242

Oh!!!!! just saw you posted roll, you just crossed the threshold of "bad ass"! I am quitting with you. Left my number in your inbox, upper right hand corner of the screen. Welcome to the brotherhood!

Failure is NOT an option. I chose to start dipping, I choose to stop. I know it isn't going to be easy,
well this has to be one of the best, open and honest intro's in quite a while.
I wanted to pull this out specifically for you. You are 100% right my friend, this is not going to be easy.
You also hit this right on the head, you Chose to start and now just choose to quit.
And here at KTC, when you post your word each and every day, and when you get to know the brotherhood around you. When you reach out not only when you are feeling low to ask smartly for help, but also when you are feeling strong when you can in fact help others, then you will push towards this being your final quit and not failing.
so learn the tools here, and yell if you ever need anything. I quit right beside you...

Congrats on taking off that leash brother. Running free is a bit strange and uncomfortable at first, but you get used to it, and every day gets a little better.
Think a lot about what Cbird said about quitting for YOU. If you quit for you because you selfishly want more time with your kids/wife, that's all good. But quitting for them is dangerous for many reasons. Be selfish. This is about you. If you do it "for them", you WILL eventually make the following association: The reason you are in a LOT of discomfort is because of nicotine withdrawal. You're family is the reason you are going through nicotine withdrawal. Therefore, ergo, THEY are the reason you are in a lot of discomfort. Then you lash out at what you see as the source, or you cave because they don't appear to appreciate the "sacrifice" you are making on their behalf. That's warped logic, I know, but MANY of us can attest to having bought into it while transiting the fog. YOU are the reason you are in discomfort at the moment, and YOU are what will pull you through it successfully.
You have made a huge step towards ridding your life of a huge ever-present obstacle. Be proud of that and let that pride pull you through the day. Awesome. I'm excited for you.

tabl333 - Just about teared up reading your post. Sending all the quit energy I can your way. I made a vow to my son when he was young, then i broke it. I made a vow to my second son, then I broke it. Now, I have a grandson. I'm not making a vow to him. I'm making a commitment to myself and a promise to you that I will not chew today. I don't know what tomorrow will bring. I'll fight that when I wake up I guess. Please make a promise to me and the rest of the quitters that you won't chew today either and we'll all get through the shit again tomorrow...together.

This ^^^^^ times 100. One day at a time and you can have back a lot of what the poison has stolen. Never again for any reason and you can keep it.

Quitting is really simple.
Read everything on here, post roll call each morning and don't dip. Wow....that sounds so easy, doesn't it?
If you read through the other intro's you may see some of my same words on them but they always hold true so I will just repeat them...
You are in for one nasty fight but you have the tools here to make it.
Go load yourself up with gum, mints, fake chew, seeds and beef jerky. Also get some member phone numbers right now, they will help you through the rough parts.
Next, exercise to exhaustion every single day and drink so much water that you feel like you may bust. Both of these will help.
Make sure your wife reads about what you are going through. 99% chance that you are going to be a short fussed dick for the next 3-4 weeks. Try not to take it out on her and the kids. Get on here and take it out on us, we will be fine.
I quit with you.
-
Nice intro, the family sentiment is nice.... no roll post today. Did you give up on your quit already? I've been there, you don't think you'll make it another hour without one let alone a whole day right?
I would guess that your probably finger banging the can again, you were nasty to your wife or something and you decided to spare your family the grief? I don't know am I close yet?
The one thing quitting requires is that it has to be for you, deep down inside you have to want the freedom or it doesn't work. No matter how much you want it for your family, it won't work until you absolutely want it for you.
Then you make the decision daily to post roll and keep your word. Check your inbox for my number and lets get this thing going!
-
"Daddy, don't take it out on us. We believe in you, you can do it."
Own this thing dude. Get on here and post roll each day.

I forgot to roll call yesterday guys, but I am about to now. Wife's bday is today, and we were busy as all hell yesterday (between work, 3rd Christmas', gym party at my house...). You guys are all awesome. I love the ideas you all bring forward. Very enlightening. I am quitting for me, this is my selfish thing. They all get to reap the rewards. I have NOT fallen off the wagon. As a matter of fact, I have more energy now than I have in YEARS. It is ridiculous. I didn't know what that stuff was robbing me of. I work out hard 5-6 days a week (crossfit). I feel stronger and have more stamina that I have ever felt (been doing crossfit for 2 years). Is it placebo? Or is it actual? Either way, I don't really care. I love the energy high I am on. I don't know if it is sustainable, and I am sure there will be times where I am not feeling this "high". But right now I will ride the wave. Yes, I have had a few moments of twitching for the can, but I go drink some water, chew some gum or sunflower seeds, and tell myself that I don't really want the snuff. In a few minutes the feeling goes away. Currently, as I type, I have a minor headache. I am about to go put the Christmas stuff away, so again keeping busy helps keep me on track. It's amazing though, how doing something was always tied to a dip of snuff. Have dinner, have a dip right after. Do yard work, have a dip. Watch some football, have a dip. Just have to retrain myself. Oh, and both my daughters have been very supportive. They tell me what I need to hear every day. When I get mad, they stop me with those simple little words. I think getting them involved is huge, and if any of you guys can do the same I would recommend it. (I know I am just a rookie on here but this has been helpful to me. You guys have helped me so far, and I will try my best to reciprocate). Great support network here guys, I am really impressed.

I forgot to roll call yesterday guys, but I am about to now.
You are running on the excitement of being quit right now, and that is fine. I don't want to be the party pooper, but eventually, you will need to rely on your brothers and sisters here at KTC. If you earn their respect, they will be there for you any time you ask, but to earn their respect they need to see your name every damn day on roll call. You always made time to dip, so make sure to make time to quit... Post roll Damnit. Every day, no exceptions. IF you need to set an alarm on your phone, do it... whatever it takes.
Not trying to rain on your parade, because you are doing great otherwise, but the foundation of this whole process is posting roll. Eventually the excitement of quit wears off and there is a hard grind, and it will be your daily promise to your group that will be enough to get you through, but you have to make that promise.

You can keep your word for a day right. Me and everyone else on this site expects nothing less. Accountability, determination and drive will get you through one day at a time. glad to be quit with you.

I hope you guys don't mind me rambling on and on like this. I probably won't always be this wordy. I just had to put my cards on the table so you know where I am coming from.
You don't have to say a damn word here but I expect you to put your name and the number of your days quit in your quit group. That's your promise! When my daughter was 4 years old I told her and my wife the same thing you told your family, guess what I finally quit when my grandson was 4! Don't be a dumb ass, get with the program!
