Came across this site purely by accident. Just did a google search for quitting dip and this came up. I've dipped on and off since I was a kid. I'm 42 now. Sometime in my late 20's I was dipping probably 1/2 a can a day, but quit in my early 30's. I was off for about 10 years but started again about 3 years ago. I've been using at least a can a day if not more. My last dip was 3/5 or 3/6. 'll go with 3/6 since I am 100% positive I did not dip that day. Quitting will be hard for me. I work at a car lot where all the other guys dip at least a can a day as well. Thanks for the support and I will try to use the site as intended.

Do or do not. There is no try.
If you post roll everyday, you are using the site as it's intended. If you attempt to gain support and offer support to others, you are using it as intended. Get phone numbers from fellow quitters to text when you are in a tough spot or if you aren't near a computer to post roll for you. Make life long friends. Become part of the brotherhood who has fought for the right to be called "quitter".
Do or do not.

Thanks for the reply and the lesson from Yoda.

Thanks for the reply and the lesson from Yoda.
I wasn't trying to be a wise ass, I was just trying to show you how simple (not easy) it is to quit with this site. People who visit us and say they will try usually don't give more than about 20% effort into what this place represents. Addicts who read, learn, discuss, understand, and share are the ones who make it.

Thanks for the reply and the lesson from Yoda.
That lesson is one that may be simple but it plays to a big part of quitting,
If we try, that means there is the possibility of failure. the Possibility that at some point in our future, when we are not feeling well, when we are stressed that we would be seduced back to fingering that little nic bitch can and getting right back in bed with her.
If we just do it, then we have made that daily decision to kick any nicotene from our lives and decide to live as a free man and no longer a slave to any little can.
So don't romanticize the past, don't long to have things the way they were. That is something that I told this 42 year old when my mind snapped last July 2nd as to kicking this crap out of my life. And the only thing I regret is the time and money wasted in the past, but am loving the free life right now.
+1 today with you = QUIT

Yoda's lesson is as true for you (and me) as it is for Luke. If you can remember that scene - Luke is just whining about how hard it is, he doesn't know if he can do it. So he's giving himself an out - "well I'll try" (in a little girl whiny voice).
We were in control when we put the shit in our mouth. We are totally in control of not putting the shit in our mouth. And there are lots of people who have quit, proving that we all can.
Fight for it.

Ok, so I didn't think anyone was trying to be a smartass or anything, I was really appreciative of the reply. I'm sure you get a lot of people who come on and try to quit. I wasn't trying to be short or a smartass either. My apologies if I came across that way.

It sounds like you've already quit? Since 3/6? You're not using any nicotine replacements like the patch or nicorette gum?
If so, that is pretty badass to quit for a month on your own. If you want the support of this site, read the WELCOME CENTER (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showforum=13) above and start posting roll.
Since you quit on 3/6, your quit group is June 2013 and post up your day 36 quit. You've already passed some of those milestones, but you're far from out of the woods just yet.
Get to know those guys in June, trade numbers, chat, etc. Post your promise each day to not use nicotine and quit each day.

No apologies! Be honest and open! Quitters can handle about anything because they've dealt with leaving the nicotine bitch behind and all her shit!!!

Son of a bitch, so not 3/6, 4/6. Damn, my reputation on this site is already gone to shit. Oh well, I did post in roll call. Got a PM with a support buddy to help. I've quit, going to stay quit, and ain't going to start again. It's tough right this second though. I quit while I was on vacation. There was plenty to do and my mind really was distracted from it. Now, I'm back to the daily grind and it SUCKS! Bad!

3/6, 4/6, you are in the FOG right now!!! It WILL suck for a while. No sugar coating here!!! You have to earn your quit one day at a time!!! Power through this for a while and things will get better and the fog will lift!!! A LOT better when you come to the realization that you you can function without nic constantly running through your veins!!!! The realization that you are stronger than a can of processed cancer causing crap!!!!

Just replying because this f-ing sucks and I'm having a hard time. Work is slow as hell which makes it worse. Obviously I'm new to the site, what is the instant chat all about?

I got a question for you kkiger? Have you quit lipping the can. As far as I can tell yes you have!
Second question , are you taking back your life? Damn right you are!
Then I speak for everyone here. Your reputation is golden! I hold you in high regard. My hat is off to you sir.
The only way you lose respect from me and everyone here is if you put that shit back in your lip. You keep quiten, and the hell with it,,,, I'll keep quiten with you.

Congrats on quitting. Just listen to what all these bad ass quitters below all said and you will be fine. You just have to take it one day at a time. Everyday that you are quit will be better than the last.

Yesterday in the July quitters forum, I made a post about making a choice to go back to the can. There were a couple of really good replies that included a very educational description of the effects of nicotine. I was thinking it might be a good idea to put something like that in the welcome center or somewhere that people viewing the site for the first time might be able to read it and learn what nicotine is doing to their bodies

I would love to hear about the effects of nicotine in more detail. I research a lot online, but I'm on my day 3 of quitting, and it is really helpful to hear first hand from people how nicotine effected them physically.
To me,nicotine made me believe I was more relaxed, but in the end I was getting drained so much by the dip/nicotine. I would even go as far as avoiding a workout or walking my dog, so that I could just have a cup of coffee and dip. I know it's gross, but that is how I lived my life. I would trade healthy activity, to throw poison in my mouth, and pretend that it the best mode of relaxation. I can't tell you how many times I felt fatigued after a dip, and would throw my can away, "promising" to quit. That would last until I got in my car the next morning, and the whole thing would start all over again. I know I'm only on day 3, and it really sucks right now, but I'm determined to quit for good. KTC has changed my life, and I pray for strength to continue with this quit.
