I've chewed Copenhagen snuff for 20+ years since I hit the age of 13. And yesterday, I threw it all away. I've wanted to quit for a long time, but it had a grip on me. I always had to have a chew, always! I was a ninja dipper :ph43r: I always needed a chew, I hid a can anywhere you could think of. My wife knew, but she didn't.
I can get through this, I've been through worse. I spent 3 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, what's throwing away dip got on that? I'm not much of a speaker type, so I'll keep this short and sweet. I will post on here everyday.
I could type a book right now, but I will wait. This site is awesome!! Tons of support, references, what to expect, man...awesome job fellas.
I used to enjoy a good chew, after all; that's what we "men" did, right? We might not have been the best on the field, but we were the toughest. Fishin? Gotta get a chew. Huntin? Gotta get a chew. Anything and everything...gotta get a chew! Well, not this ole Country hillbilly from West Virginia. This garbage has taken enough away from me, and from this point forward I make a stand! NO MORE SNUFF, NO MORE CHEW, ONLY FREEDOM!!
I have a lot of things to share, but let me get past day 3 before I open up a bit. I'm thankful for your website, I'm thankful to be surrounded by other great men of character, I'm thankful for everything God has given me in my life, and with all things I put everything into Jesus Christs hands.
For those who are thinking about quitting and haven't yet, don't wait around or try to "wean" yourself off of it. Just do it! Make a stand, throw all of your stuff in the trash, down a toilet, whatever and handle your bidness. Time to MAN UP...LETS DO THIS...TOGETHER.

Welcome to the best decision you've ever made. Tell us more about your addiction: what'd you use? Did you hide it from anyone or were you open? What motivated you to toss your stash?
Have you posted roll yet?
-
Welcome and nice job of posting roll. PM me if you need anything or have any questions. Read all you can under the Welcome Center and get ready to take charge of the January 2014 Quit Group. Nice intro as well PatronSaint.
-
Great choice, Patron!!! I just got pumped reading your intro. This is the simplest, but hardest thing you'll ever do. You have to be willing to fight like your life depends on it...because it does!
Post roll, stay quit and repeat. Read everything you can on here. Then read it again. Take things ONE DAY AT A TIME. Nobody is asking you to quit forever here...just for today. Give your word, then do all that is necessary to keep it. Nobody gets freedom for the asking. You've got to earn it. But uou've taken the first step...now we're got your back the rest of the way.
Oh, and THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!!! (maybe I should have started with that?)
YOU CAN DO THIS.
-
Fantastic job PatronSaint!!! It takes a lot to toss your stash and post up on KTC. Don't let anything change your mind about the decision you have made, I know life can get busy and stressful but as long as you post roll every-day and keep engaged in your quit you will be fine. Remeber these first few days and record your feelings/thoughts here in your intro so you can be reminded how tough it was and never repeat those days for any reason!! Check your inbox (1)
-
Good choice on qutting man you got the right attitude, keep that up and theres no way the nic bitch will get to you anymore!
-
This is a great start. Stay motivated and follow through.
Read everything you can on here. From intro threads from the beginnings, to HOF speeches and words of wisdom.
You've got this. PM me if you need another number.
-
Welcome PS all the best to you. This may have nothing on 3 tours in Iraq, but you'll find even one day at a time it can be difficult. So don't forget to reach out use those numbers you've been given when you need them. That's what this team is all here for. PM me if you need another.

Welcome PatronSaint! You've got a great attitude. Keep that fight going. Keep that commitment. As you alluded to, it's all about commitment in your head...and posting roll every day. Post roll religiously and get phone numbers of guys in your group. Text them daily and support each other in your quits. That's why this site and the concept here works.
I quit with you today!

Thanks everyone!
I'm on day 5, and I feel a LOT better than I have been. I've been getting major heartburn, horrible heartburn and I threw up twice last night. The heartburn is so bad I'm almost thinking of going to the ER, but then I think it too will pass. Anyone have this problem when they quit?

You body is changing from the years of abuse... That is for sure. However, I always say you got to be on the safe side go get yourself checked out. An all clear from the Dr. goes a long way. Stay quit bro!

Nicotine is a super toxin. Drop for drop it is more lethal than strychnine or diamondback rattlesnake venom and three times deadlier than arsenic. You've been on a steady diet of that for 20+ years? Be patient...your body is recovering.
Like Derk said...it is probably nothing. Take a Rolaid for heartburn. But don't ignore nausea. If you still have nausea today, go to the doc.
By the way, I'm no MD. So getting your medical advice from me is 'Crazy'

I puked and shit my brains out for several days when I was in withdrawals. It sucked ass not gonna lie I can empathize with you. Read my HOF gives a brief run down of how I felt. If it extends longer see your family practice doc wouldn't waste much time in the ER. I really cant remember who's thread I read that they went to the ER and the doc told them essentially the same thing Bean just told you about quitting nicotine. They said what did you think was going to happen when you quit one of the most addicting substances on earth. I think it was Jayd41 but not sure. Hang in there the important part is that poison is leaving your body.

Hey bean, I'm in the same group with you. Also was a big time cope user myself. I can't speak much on the heartburn I had in the beginning. I had more problems with my stomach and heartburn when I dipped then when I do now actually.
One things for sure though, you might feel like shit (As we all should for doing this to our body's for so long) but that should drive the point home that you should never put yourself in this position again. Quit and stay quit and never do the suck again.
Keep pushing through and hit me up if you ever need any extra support. I quit with you today.

Here's a golden nugget of wisdom for you which most of you will refuse to try but those that do will swear by: use baking soda and water for heartburn, good ol' arm hammer. Follow the instructions on the box to prepare it and slam it down.
Alcohol and caffeine are major contributors to heartburn, too. Don't consume anything after 8 pm, even water.

We also use the same combo to reduce lactic acid in our legs during tough rides or races.

What Derk said. Get yourself checked out. The heartburn / reflux is very normal. I had a script for the heartburn / reflux. The same advice I give everybody, don't be afraid to engage your doc, or go find one you can work with.
