Title: Complete the patch program or not?
Post by: tonypm on December 14, 2010, 02:21:00 PM
So I stumbled on KTC today after googling for wisdom from people who have quit dipping. After reading some threads on the subject, I understand that using the patch isn't recommended and quitting cold turkey is. However I am 7 days into the program, using 21mg patches and haven't had a dip since I started the program. I really thought this was a milestone but realize the reality of it is - I'm still a slave to nicotine.

I started dipping 10 years ago when I quit smoking cigarettes. This year I decided to take up cigar smoking along with the dip. I usually have 1-2 cigars a week.

So for the past week I've had no dips or cigars but have been on the patch. When I get a craving for a dip I bite down on a cigar (not lit). That has helped a lot.

I feel like an idiot for not putting 2 and 2 together. I'm just changing vehicles to get to the same destination. Cigarettes, Dip, Cigars, Patch - Nicotine

So now that I've had this epiphany, what do I do? Should I just rip the patch off and deal with it? I presume this site would not exists if it were that easy. I am really afraid of failure and I believe that if I continue the patch program my chances of quitting nicotine will improve. The concept is to lower the dosage every 3 weeks to ween myself off of it. Seems logical no?

Bottom line is, I want to quit this shit all together. Your wisdom is what I seek.

My kid watches that Agent Oso fellow on the Disney Channel all the time....that stuffed bear provides "3 special steps" to complete a task. Here are your steps.

1. Rip off that patch
2. Read 1-4 HERE (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showforum=13)
3. Head over to March 2011, post up and reclaim your life

FYI...it's more fun if you sing the song. Three Special Steps (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWLu9fPQoiM)

I was afraid someone would say that.

I will go ahead and save you the trouble of waiting for others to weigh in with their opinion. No active member of this site will tell you to continue using the patch. So go ahead and rip it off now. Yeah it's going to suck huge donkey balls for a little bit, but you will make it through...just as we all did. It can be done...one day at a time.

Dan's right. Although in your current state of mind, it might seem logical to use patches to quit dip, it's really just an illusion from a practical point of view.

Look at it this way: you're using nicotine to help you get off nicotine. 'Crazy'

Grip it and rip it.

I am staring at the patch on my arm like a western show down

What are you thoughts on chomping on an unlit stogie in my mouth to alleviate the oral fixation?

Why the hell would you do that. Kinda like having your dog balance a hot dog on his nose and never let him eat it. That wouuld make you a sick BASTARD.

Bottom line. Post roll giving your word of honor that you will not use nicotine in any way shape or form for today.

Keep your word.

Do it again tomorrow.

You can do this.

Let's try another example.

MikeA recently stopped taking it in the ass every night. Now he just sucks dick every now and then.

In your opinion would MikeA be homo or hetero sexual??

The method does not matter. IT IS THE END RESULT. Chomping on a cigar still equals nic getting in your body.

There are tons of ways to help with the oral fix...gum, seeds, atomic fire balls, jolly ranchers.

Make this happen now. I promise you will not regret the choice.

P.S. quit fucking around and pull that fucking patch off your fucking arm and go post roll. Clean out all your stashes and throw that fucking stogey away.

Now.

I don't crave cigars like I do dip. I just enjoy the smell of them unlit and it helps me get over the dip crave. I have plenty of will power to quit cigars. On the other hand it takes every ounce of will power I have and some not to reach for a pinch of grizzly.

Oh boy ... the patch is off now and the closest can of dip is at the convenience store.

I was under the impression that posting roll was limited to those completely off nicotine?

The second you remove the dip/patch/spit out the nic gum etc. is the exact time you get to post day 1.

No excuses left. Go post roll. Check your (Inbox 1) upper right corner of your screen for instructions.

Great choice. Posting roll is for those off nicotine, which you are now...being the patch is off and no cigars, dip, snuss, cigs are in your possession.

So go post up and give the group your word that in no way, shape, or form will you put anymore nicotine in your body for the remainder of the day. Wake up tomorrow morning...rinse and repeat.

Total abstinence. Besides the nic addiction, there is also the oral fixation issue. Do your best. Kicking it sucks as you will hear over and over again. Use this site and those you will meet along the way. Include your frineds and loved ones as support. They will hold you accountable and you should be. No one is putting that crap into your mouth except yourself.
Don't use a crutch, just walk away from it.
