Long story short, I've been dipping for roughly ten years and went to the dentist for the first time in 5 years about 5 months ago. He looked in my mouth and said it would take two years of no dip for the damage to fix itself, and this won't even be 100% of it.
He said if I waited another two years to come in there would be nothing he could do for me.
I stopped dipping that day, and started again about three weeks ago. Between that stop and start I was smoking cigars daily.
I'm tired of being a slave to nicotine and am done with it.

Then QUIT!!! Step up and own it. Toss every can of chew and cigar and all that other crap in the trash. Then post roll, hit the welcome center, PInk Link up at the top of the page. Now I will tell you this, for me, I had to come into this site and embrace it. I have decided to be active and be here a lot it makes me accountable.
Be sure to post roll, every day, or this bad ass group of quitters will hunt you down and bust your balls. Welcome to your quit own it and learn from it. Next three days are going to suck drink lots of water, and be ready. We Are here for you as group reach out if you need anything.
I quit with you today.

My big question is how do I handle shitty and stressful days, or just mindless dipping at work?
-
Welcome to the site chriskov. The wisdom to quit lies within and so does the support. You pose an excellent question, and the answer is.......one day at a time.
Truthfully, you have a lot of hard days before you, but, it can be done. Thousands of us quit each day, one day at a time.
This is why we are here. index.php?showtopic=125 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=125)
This is how we quit. index.php?showtopic=120 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=120)
This how to post roll. index.php?showtopic=50 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=50)

chriskov,
Step 1 - insert both thumbs into the front of your waistband
Step 2 - push thumbs outward, away from your body
Step 3 - look down
Now, what do you see? If you said "balls", then congrats. You have the best tool of all to quit once and for all. Those balls will help you get through those "shitty and stressful days" too.
The other tools needed are all found here on KTC. Each of us has gone through the exact same fears and anxiety. Despite what your mom says, you're nothing special. Your an addict just like us. We are quit and dealing with it one day at a time and so can you.
Click on the ghey salmon colored Welcome Center (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showforum=13) link here. Read those steps. Learn about what/why/how we "Post Roll". That's our pledge to ourself, our group, and everyone else on KTC that we will not use nicotine in any way, shape, or form (including cigars) for today. Quit for today. When tomorrow comes, repeat today.
Go ahead and fire off some PMs to your brothers and sisters in June 2013. Offer your phone number and I'm sure they'll return theirs. In a moment of weakness we reach out. That's the "Accountability" thing that you have already heard about. Get to know these quitters on a personal level, they will support you and save your life.
Welcome aboard with your fine decision to quit.

Gotta want it bro. Fight, scratch, claw, scream, cry, jack off...whatever it takes. If you want it bad enough you will figure it out.
Best news for you is, you don't have to do it alone. We are all here to help you every step of the way and share out secrets. You are no more addicted nor stressed out than anyone else who has come stumbling through the ktc doors. The playbooks has been written. All you have to do is follow it. Its hard as fuck, but worth every second of it.
You DENTIST says soon there will be nothing he can do for you. What are you waiting for, a DOCTOR to say the same thing? By then it's too late. Literally.

Just like all the guys below said. If you want to quit, then quit. Quitting is the best thing that will happen to you. Life is so much better without having to use that nasty ass can just to make it through the day. Their are alot of guys and gals on here that will do whatever they can to help you every step of the way.
-
Don't go back. None of us need to go back.
Keep quit and we're all here for you.

Stick something else in your mouth. The need for oral fixation can be strong. Hell, I still use the fake dip about once a day a year later.
Use seeds, gum, fake dip, coffee grounds, atomic fireballs or whatever you need to curb it.
It will get better, I promise you that.
-
I cant believe you asked how to handle the stressfull days. Its simple, mydol and a heavy duty pad! Evil One said it best. Have the balls to say no. Take it hour by hour, rather than day by day. When you get the major craves read our contract. If you still want to cave come back here, post that your a big pussy, and quit wasting our time. I pray you make it, hell I hope we all do, but at least man up!

Day two in the books. I had training all day at work, so I didn't really have time to crave chew. During my lunch break I wanted one a tad and then remembered what I committed to. I think the hardest thing will be just breaking the habit.
One thing I'm going to do is cut out energy drinks and too much coffee. I think this increases my stress level and makes me crave chew more.
Further, I need to have gum on hand at all times. I had it today and it helped a ton, and made me forget about chew. I bought several more packs today.
Game on.

I think we have oursleves a quitter here. Great job Chriskov, and good call on decreasing the caffiene intake. From what I understand it takes far less caffeine to do the job in the absence of nicotine. Drink a shit ton of water and fruit juice for the next 3 days. It will help clean out the system and curb the craves.

Start of day 3. I'm chewing gum like a friggin feen, and may have had too much coffee, but I had a great workout this morning. I have meetings from 1 on today, so I just have to hold off until then, and I'll be g2g on the way home.

get each other's numbers and be there for each other.
Also, watch the coffee intake and go primarily with water. And when I say "go with water", I mean drink a TON of it. If you are walking by the bathroom without going, drink more. Caffeine effects you a little differently early in this quit, and the water pushes the poison out.

Waste is right, more water the better, and great job getting the workout in, trashing your body in the gym is a great for your quit plus with drinking all that water and sweating in the gym you'll have the poison out of your system in no time.

Today sucked. I was craving all day because of work stress, but had gum on hand and chewed the hell out of it. Another day almost down!

I chewed a lot of gum my first week, then switched to mints and hard candies after biting my tongue and lips dozen or so times.

Don't know if this is too early for you or not but: "Today sucked. I was craving all day because of work stess" is BULLSHIT - today sucked and you craved all day because of UST and their product that you are addicted to - nicotine... That is why today sucked - it keeps getting better though - keep up the good work!

Just realize that nicotine would NOT fix that "stress" you feel. And nicotine will NOT make you cope with the stress any better. That is pure bullshit, and the whisper of your addicted mind.
Nicotine would only serve to curb the withdrawal symtpoms that nicotine created. At least for about 30-60 minutes. Then you would need to cram another one in, and then another, and then another, and then another, UNTIL YOUR DAMN TEETH FALL OUT, OR YOU LOSE YOUR TONGUE AND JAW. You made a decision you beat this.
I agree with mich34. Hang in there chriskov. This will get better. Just win the fight for today. Tomorrow we will do it again. I quit with you, day 81 right here.

See you posted roll for day 5 today. Great job - Keep it up and stay strong cause it gets easier. The cravings will start to ease off. Don't even consider that nicotine is the answer to dealing with stress. I'm quit with you and the rest of June today.
