My name is Kevan and I went to the dentist yesterday at 3 pm for my semi-annual cleaning. The dentist wants me to go see an oral surgeon because of the deep tissue wrinkling on the left side of my mouth. He has given me a scare so I have not had a dip since 2:45 pm yesterday, so I am going on 15+ hours quit. Went by Dollar General after the dentist to get some candy to help me through this, but after 30 years of dipping I feel like I am about to go crazy as my emotions are all over the place. My wife is afraid I am going to die so she is all freaked out. My wife told me of this support group and thought I could get more support from people that have been in my shoes than she could give me, so here I am. I do know I can make it and not ever go back.

This site can help you kick your nicotine addiction (not a habit) to the curb. We don't use words like try or hope as they are just another excuse for our addictive brains to tell us another lie. There are no short cuts, but here are some links that will help you navigate this site.
This a NO NICOTINE site. End of discussion. Why this Site Works (http://www.killthecan.org/about/why.asp)
Best thing to do is get familiar with this site and start building your quit defense.
Highly recommend you go here: Welcome Center (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showforum=13), Getting Acclimated (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=7614), What to Expect (http://www.killthecan.org/yourquit/what.asp) Top Ten List (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=8382)
Your quit Decision (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=1791&view=findpost&p=4771433) MUST be 100% about you. Anything short of that sets you up for failure by allowing your addict brain to blame a given situation as reason for you to go back to the can. Quitting out of fear, based on a medical issue, will fade as soon as the doctor or dentist gives you a clean bill of health.
Post Roll every day or communicate with someone and have them post via text, email or call. Get as many number of your group as you can and use them frequently. Keep in touch with your quit brothers. Send them a PM, text or call every few days just to keep an open line of communication. Give them your email address. Make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to go a day without several people contacting you all day if you don't post roll.
You want another layer of accountability? Come post in my room every morning after you post roll in yours April 2012 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=5688&st=0)

Kevan - you read, reread, and rereread the vigor that cbird is dispensing. 30 years of use doesnt scare us. We go at it daily. You need to decide if you are ready to grab your developing scrotum and be free.

Hey Kevan. I dipped for over 30 years. I was a dumbass. My dentist told me to consider quitting 3 years ago. I didn't listen. 51 days ago I posted roll and I vowed to stop dipping everyday with the people in my group and on this site. The difference between being scared, but dipping right after the teeth cleaning that day, is that I am committed to stop now. I will never dip again, one day at a time. LISTEN TO THAT!!! It will save your life!!!!

I'm with the Doc, listen to Cbird. You still haven't posted roll, let's get to it. From a 4 decade user you can do it!

Cbird has laid down the gospel.
All our wives were scared. All our wives hated tobacco for many years. But, you gotta quit for YOU. Sounds like you've made that decision. I could ramble on for several pages, but I'll save it for later. Read the intros and HOF speeches (mine is linked below) of quitters on this site. Find some folks with similarities to you and get to know them. That's what makes this place work. The brotherhood and friendships I've made here keep me accountable and focused.
I'm convinced that the number of years we used nicotine doesn't make a lot of difference in the way we quit. The addiction is the same. We each fight the battle day by day, and we have to look in the mirror evey day. As I brushed my teeth this morning, I gladly thougth "not today".
Threw away 20 years of my life with tobacco. Never again will those asses get a dime of my money for trying trying to kill me!! NEVER!!

Hey brother, I am glad to read that your Dentist kicked you square in the balls yesterday. I dipped for over 24 years myself and finally made the decision to quit. I was not the happiest camper around at the start but KTC and the fine quitters form here helped me to see the light and helped remove my head from my ass.
You are an addict and it is the addict speak telling you that you cannot quit after 30 years. I am here to say FUCK THAT NOISE! You can quit!
Make a bug out bag or bags and keep them with you at all times. Fill those bags with dip alternatives. Never ever be caught without an alternative, as the Nic bitch will seduce you right back in. Schedule the appointment with the oral surgeon, get it checked out.
You can do this, we all did,

My wife made an appointment for me at 2 pm central today with the oral surgeon. The good news is that my mouth should heal back to itself in a matter of time as long as I don't go back to dipping. If I do go back there is a good chance that cancer will set in. I have made a life decision on quitting (in fact it has been about 25 hours now) and I never plan to go back to that life. I would love to post to roll but I cannot see where to do that. Maybe I am not looking in the right place?

Kevan,
Your brief intro really inspired me. I really think you are going to get through this. Work the system, drink the koolaid, rely on us. It really works. Read up and post roll every damn day. No excuses. Send me a PM if you need anything.

Kevan, welcome. Our fellow brothers have waxed poetic, given instruction, encouragement, etc... but noone will lie to you and tell you this is easy, that it doesn't take Grande Cojones to wake up every day and smack that Nic bitch in the face. Fortunately your wife pointed you to KTC, now it's up to you to stay on the path. You need anything, shoot me a note.
-
Welcome to KTC Kevan. I sent you a pm earlier about posting roll, but did not realize you had already posted your introduction. I see that some of the strongest quitters on the entire site have posted responses to your intro, so there is not much I will add except that I used Cope for 28 years (after 17 years of Marlboro) and am now coming up on 1 year quit in a few days. If I can do it, and over 17,000 members have done it, you sure as hell can do it. Read the responses below and pay attention. You have alot of support here, but you have the hard part ahead of you and it will not be easy...but it is sure worth it. Congratulations on taking back control of your life. I sent you another pm with my telephone number...call me with any problems or concerns. Wayne

This quitter is a Married man and hes the father of a 10 year old son. He picked up the habit at the age of 15 but made the wise decision to lay it down after a spot was found in his mouth. It turned out not to be cancer but the cancer scare coupled with his son learning about nicotine at school and started pleading with ol’ dad to quit, the decision to quit was simple. Kevin is bringing some wisdom on the train. He says “ Dipping is an expensive waste of time and it could very well take your life from you. Deciding to quit is the best decision anyone can make and even though it may be tough in the beginning, it WILL save your life”. (If that shit doesnt make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, you’re dead inside. ) To celebrate this accomplishment, Kevin and his wife will be going out for dinner. THis facilities engineer drives Ford Ranger XLT to work and to the local fishing hole.
Kevin credits his quit group as a whole to his continued success but specifically mentions GeorgeHayduke as a person who has played a big role in his quit. These two quitters quit at the same time and have leaned on each other quite a bit these past 100 days. He credits George for getting him through the first 30 days. Kevin says that he is signing up for 200 days so Im sure he will be helping out new quitters with his wise words. Congrats on making the HOF Kevin. Enjoy the ride.
Congrats on 100 days man!!

Bad. Ass. The brotherhood never ceases to amaze me. Here's to all the maggots of Mayhem getting a lift to their quits based on the latest entrant to the HOF. Congrats bro!

Congrats brother enjoy you day you've earned it.

Welcome to the HOF

Congrats Kevans Proud to have you in our Feb group! Quit on and keep flapping!
-
Kevans, congratulations to you. Proud to be quit with you and to share this moment with our Feb group of quitters. Have a super day man.

Congrats you HoFMF'r! Each and every day nic free is cause for celebration, but Three-Digit Quits are fucking fantastic! Remember, this is just the beginning...
You will still go through funks and you will get complacent. It is inevitable. Triggers that you didn't know exist still lurk out there. And life will still throw you a curve ball from time to time. Remember the simple equation...one problem plus tobacco = two problems.
Never forget what you went through or what got you this far. As you know, quitting is done one day at a time. So is staying quit. Posting roll and paying it forward...that's the key for me.
Well done, sir!!!
