37 year old father of 3. Started chewing in November of 1997. One can per day until just before midnight New Years Eve this year. Haven't had a chew since then and just finished 70 days of nicotine patches yesterday. Today is the first day to function with no form of nicotine in my bloodstream.
Didn't want to sign up on the site until I finished my patches. Wishing I would have quit cold turkey because I still feel horrible today. Foggy, irritable, hungry like I could eat all day. Looking forward to finding support through this site, and hopeful to give some support along the way.

You'll get nothing but support here man, and you've learned a valuable lesson.
Your quit is going to be a bit odd as you've probably broken many of the oral fixation issues that most people fight with during these first few days.
But you're still going to have 3-7 days of suck as the poison leaves your bloodstream. Drink a ton of water, limit (or cut out) your caffeine intake (You'll be jittery enough.), and exercise. If you don't run...try it. Nothing kills a crave like 25 push ups.
The important thing is that you post your promise that you won't use nicotine IN ANY FORM today and keep that word. Post to your group, and strap in. You're in for a helluva ride.

Unfortunately, all those patches were a bunch of bullshit...total waste of your money and time. It is simple...if you want to quit, then don't put any form of nicotine in your body.
If you decide to quit, we are all behind you every step of the way. But, until you do, you're just wasting everybody's time. This site isn't for TALKING. It is about DOING.
Nobody can make that choice for you, so don't ask us to beg you. And nobody can do this for you, so don't expect it. You must earn your wonderful freedom one shitty day, minute, moment at a time...with the help and respect of all those bad-ass quitters who have the nuts to post their promise and get in the ring and toe-to-toe with the Nic Bitch.
Come back when you're quit. I'd be proud to be in this together with you...but not if you're just gonna bullshit us. You're not fooling anyone. We're addicts. We've heard this bullshit before. We told ourselves the same things before posting "Day 1."
I hope to see you back here.

Beta, Great to see you posted up an intro. The first week sucks, but stick with it cause it only gets better. The fog, rage, and hunger will eventually transform into pride as you quit. Looking forward to riding this out with you and being quit.

Whoah...I just re-read. Sounds like you are quit. Congrats. (See how pissed I get when someone comes on here talking about using patches?!!)
Go to the Welcome Center if you haven't already. Post up, live free!

Geez Bean, thanks for the support bro. Not sure how I'm BS-ing everyone here. It's my first day in 18 years to live without nicotine. I posted roll and will not use today. How many days do I have to quit before I have your permission to come back? Don't wanna waste your time.
I do appreciate the others who gave advice. Didn't realize caffeine makes things worse. I have put away almost 3 liters of water today. Sunflower seeds seem to help along with bubble gum. I am a marathon runner, but today is a recovery day from my long run this weekend. Looking forward to running tomorrow night.

Lol! I missed your repost. You caught me off guard a little. My apologies. I agree 100%. The patches were a complete waste of time. I could be on Day 71 today.

Welcome Ostatebeta97. Every day gets easier, just push through it. You've already gotten a lot of good info so I will just add to get involved in your group, in all of the other forums, and in Live Chat. If you do that you'll really get to know some quitters on a personal level and that will strengthen your quit exponentially.
Help is always a PM away. Reach out. That's what we do (well, some reach around, but whatever). Proud to call you a quitter today.

The fog seems to be lifting. Work got stressful tonight. Mouth watered and got a little numb. Glad the first 72 hours are over. One day at a time. Xxx-xxx-xxxx. I'm all in

Welcome Brandon, excellent choice.
Best to send your number in a PM as this intro page is not registered users only.

Welcome, sir. Congrats on pushing through the first 72. Your system should be pretty free from nicotine now, but your brain and response systems are still hostage to the addiction. Beware the tricks. Have a plan in place and spring it without hesitation when you hit a rough spot.

Today was my biggest victory in my quit thus far. Day 10, vacation day, round of golf with a 5 hour round trip drive. It really never even crossed my mind. Kept sunflower seeds and gum in my golf bag. Breezed right through it. Tomorrow and Friday will be the first time to really hit the beer since I quit. We always get the fellas together for March Madness and drink ourselves silly, but this year nobody dips anymore. I am looking forward to adding another little victory to my quit over the next few days...

Yeah be careful. Nothing kills a quit faster than booze. Have a plan man and digits of a quit bro.
Not saying it cannot be done but have a plan and some digits.
You've been warned.

I appreciate the advice. I'm trying to see these next few days as more of an opportunity than a threat, but I will be on guard. That's why I wanted to post it in my intro to create some accountability. Thanks fellas.

I was able to survive March Madness Weekend without Copenhagen for the first time in 18 years. You really do need to keep your guard up when your drinking. I chewed a ton of bubble gum and sunflower seeds. Proud of this accomplishment. Today is 2 weeks Nicotine Free.
-
Good deal! I had a few beers with a friend that smokes recently. For some reason it was no big deal this time as it has been in years past when I stopped for 6 month and 13 month stretches. I honestly didn't have any desire for a cig or a dip. I enjoyed his company, but inside I felt bad for him because he couldn't give up nicotine.
I don't recommend this to new quitters until you get some quit time behind you. Sooner or later though you are going to be around smokers or dippers and you are going to have to learn how to deal with it. I have friends who smoke or dip. I quit, but I can't make them until they decide to or decide not to. I still value their friendship regardless of their bad habit. All of them knowing I have quit would smack me in the head if they caught me doing what they are doing. You can't hide in a monastery forever.

Great job on 2 weeks. Sunflower seeds are saving me too, but more importantly this quit is saving our lives.

Thanks man. I couldn't agree more.
