Title: Howdy from Colorado
Post by: 65fl on April 24, 2008, 09:20:00 AM
I had a long eloquent intro all planned out. I was going to write about how long I chewed, 28 years, about the one time I quit and how I got sucked in. None of that crap matters, you've all heard it before.

The important thing is I'm sick of this monkey on my back, I'm tired of waiting for that sore in my mouth that won't go away to appear. I was going to wait till Friday but I shot my can of Cope last night with an arrow. I quit. Today I will not chew.

Thanks, I want to throw up. I didn't think the symptoms would show up this quick.

part of what you're dealing with is physical... most of it will be mental.

you need to find some things to take your mind off chewing -- take a walk, drink lots of water, hang out here or in the chat room.

this sucks balls -- we know. but it's totally worth it. you don't know it yet, but you're in for the best ride of your life. but it's kind of like when you were a kid.

you got on the "big kids ride" and you were scared to death. you hated every minute of it from the time you buckled in till the time it was over. then you got off the ride and you realized that it was an AWESOME experience.

ok... so maybe the anology isn't all that great. my point is all the pain that you're going through is totally worth the freedom that you're going to gain.

congrats again -- you're a quitter now. you don't do that shit anymore.

The worst of it will be over in a few days...and I think you can tell that you don't want to do it again. Stick to the site seeds, gum, water,...atomic fire balls worked great for me...send a PM if you need anything.

Castle Rock

Question, what is a good gum? I bought some Stride Forever Fruit this morning but it is way too sweet. Wow, I'm chewing gum. I never chewed gum, it took time away from that soothing and relaxing tobacco. Cope, it satisfies! My ass.

Anyway, what's a decent gum that is not too sweet.

I can't do seeds at work, besides I don't like seeds, they take away time from Cope.
Maybe I'll give some seeds a try tonight.

Extra is my favorite, anything mint or cinnamon. Fruity kinds suck. If you can't do seeds at work try flavored tooth picks and hard candies like jaw breakers so you can't chew them up fast. Seeds are still my favorite, get some on the way home for sure. You may want to look into hooch or smc...never tried myself but alot of guys here do.

I use Big Red or other sugarless Cinnamon because it burns kinda like Copenhagen, which was my drug of choice back when. I also use Hooch Herbal Snuff or Smoky Mt. Chew when I'm out in the sticks. You have to order the hooch, but smoky mt. is at King Soopers or any of the chain grocery stores around here. Hooc has a pretty decent imitation of Cope, closer than anyone else. I'm up in Arvada, send me an e-mail if you need anything. I take it you're an archer?

I enjoy archery but don't practice enough to have the confidence to hunt with it, I prefer muzzle loading season, elk, deer and bear. Though I've never seen a bear when I had a tag in my pocket. I'm positive that the DOW sprays bear repellent on the tags it sells me.

I'm feeling better, I'll see if I can get a little work done this morning.

Great. Another member of the Colorado gang. I'm in broomfield.

Its gonna be a tough ride for a while. I found tea to be a good cheap safe substitute to get off of this. I don't miss the burn at all though.

I'm at day 45 and I have to say it's awesome. 28 years for me too.

65, it is great to see another person eager to join the ranks of quitters. This is the only place and the only reason I am proud to call myself a quitter. For quitting this makes us winners. Where is that little punk that said quitters never win and winners never quit? Use all the info and people here to help you stay quit. Make a real plan to overcome the triggers and urge to cave. You can't wing it because nicotine is serious about reeling you back into the can.

Try Orbits or Eclipes gum both helped me out in the begining. Castle Rock how close it that to Colorado Springs? Have a friend who lives there.

Would love to hunt that part of the country someday, maybe we'll hook up for a hunt one day.

If you need anything PM me questions phone number you name it just let me know.

Oh Yeah and Welcome to the rest of your dip free life!

Welcome. Good to see another Coloradan quitting.

Orbitz was/is my gum of choice. Good flavor, lasts pretty good.

Let me know if I can help you with your quit. If you use the site the way it is intended, this will be the last time you ever have to quit.

Thanks for the help, I 'll try Orbitz next time I need a pack, it shouldn't be long before I do.

I think I might need some help this weekend. If some folks would PM me with their #'s that would be helpful. I've been in misery the last two days, I don't want to screw this up in a moment of weakness. Having those #'s in my pocket would be great.

Stride Gum in the dark blue box, not too sweet and last for hours. If you want a burn the cinnamon will give it to you for a few minutes.

Just an FYI on the whole gum issue. Some people, like myself, get headaches from sugarfree gum. In fact any food item with the sugar substitute they use in sugar free products gives me a headache. For that reason, I like to alternate between big red and juicy fruit throughout the day.
