Title: Day 57, First Time Posting, 2nd time quitting
Post by: SoccerMan91 on April 30, 2018, 05:23:00 PM
I've been dipping a total of 7 years. 4 years the first time, quit for 2, got back into it for about 3 years. This website helped me with the first quit but I never joined the forum. The second quit feels different. I feel like it's taking my mouth longer to heal. I think I messed my gums up with long cut because they are really sensitive to it, which is why I did pouches.

First 4 years I chewed strictly long cut, and the last 3 years strictly pouches and I would leave them in my mouth much much longer. I'd pretty much have a pouch in every waking hour after work and before bed. Dip some mornings before work and at lunch so no one can see. Going a full work day without one or two pouches was very hard.

I'm on day 57 of cold turkey quit and need to kick this for good - for me. My mouth does not feel like it's healing as fast as the first time I quit. Anyone keep track of how long the sores, etc. lasted? Also when "the fog" finally went away.

I have this uncomfortable feeling in my mouth that's hard to explain. Like constant thirst, sore throat, sometimes lots of salivation. Some days are better than others. All of it drives me crazy. Doesn't help to be in sales and having issues focusing in business conversations if I'm 'foggy".

Lots of anxiety. That's my personality anyway, but even worse with the dip quit. Being busy helps, I've got a fast running mind though so I get easily distracted by physical cravings and thoughts.

I also smoke a lot of weed and have a state medical card. Anyone advise against that in line with a dip quit (not in general haha - I don't want your opinion on that)? Some of the articles said avoid drinking - so maybe it's not good to smoke weed. Drinking doesn't weaken my resolve. Don't want to give up one vice and get heavy in another.

Last, if anyone has quit multiple times, holler at me, could use the connections for advice!

I know it's a lot of different topics, would love to hear the community's thoughts. Happy to start giving back to the community with my experience once I figure out how to use the forum :)

Welcome.

YouÂ’ve never quit before, only stopped using for an extended period of time. We Quit once, and we Quit one day at a time.

How long sores, etc. last is different for everyone, and really depends on the extent of damage youÂ’ve done to your mouth. It takes time to heal. Certainly a month or two is not unusual.

If youÂ’ve been quit 57 days, you are in the June quit group. You really need to join your quit group to get the most out of this site.

I have no opinion or input on the weed question. If you needed to lose weight that might be another matter.

Proud to quit with you.

Bro, day 54 here and I have been having mental health issues. I have never had anxiety or panic attacks in my life. I have really leaned on the KTC community through all of this. I quit one day at a time. I go to bed. Wake up and post roll. If I am struggling mentally. I call people from KTC. I fee no shame. I call whoeverÂ’s digits I have in my pms. My digits will be in your inbox. Call if you need anything. People here care for one another.

Welcome to our June 2018 quit group! I'll be completely honest with you, we are probably the best quit group on this site, so you're lucky! Jk... but seriously.

I also smoke weed and it's not a problem for me. In fact, I think it helps my quit to at least have one vice I can enjoy, not to mention the relaxing effects of it. I will give one piece of advice though, be careful with edibles. I had an edible on day 10 of my quit and had a HUGE crave. It was a strong edible and gave me that weird tingling sensation in my jaw (not sure if others get that), which really made me want to dip. I bought a tin of Grizzly, brought it home, smelled it, and then took a pinch of my fake dip. I flushed the tin of Grizzly. It was pretty intense, so I would exercise caution with edibles unless you use those all the time and are used to the effect. Maybe that's the case since you have a medical card. Anyway, good luck and proud to be quit with you.

I had kind of the same thing with the inside of my mouth. The doc told me it was probably a result of my salivary glands trying to adjust after so many years of chewing tobacco. I am 115 Days in now and my mouth has gotten noticeably better. I don't have the thirst problems any more and I stopped having sores in my mouth when I cut back drastically on the Smoky Mountain. My mouth still waters occasionally, but nothing like it did for the first couple months.

I can honestly say now that the salivary gland issues have been my biggest hurdle. When I first stopped using tobacco my salivary glands actually ached. It was uncomfortable enough that it convinced me to go to the doctor. If in doubt, go see your doc.
