Giving up on my old friend Kodiak after almost 13 years. I've dealt with the things everyone else has; the yellowing teeth and bad breath, the cost, the mouth sores. I kept buying the stuff one can at a time because every time I would tell myself that was the last can. Things finally struck me when I had a conversation with my wife the other day. She informed me that in the back of her mind she can't help help but think she only has a few years left with me because of my habit. She's so afraid that this will drastically shorten my life, and I can't find a good argument against that. I'm only 28 years old, I've got two young kids and an awesome wife, I'm in the prime of my career, and I can't seem to find a reason to keep dipping. Finally, I've found the motivation and desire to quit for good. I'm on day 2, and so far this is pure hell, but I'm keeping a picture of my family taped to the side of my computer screen as a constant reminder. I'm all stocked up on gum (the regular kind) and am planning to spend a little extra time in the gym this week to keep me distracted and relieve some stress. Any other advice from the community is more than welcome.

Rob, you are bad assed to get through day 1!
Giving up on my old friend Kodiak after almost 13 years...
Kodiak is not your old friend! That can of poison has been robbing you of your health and money from day 1. You are not giving up on an old friend. You are finally getting your head out of your ass (I had my head up my ass for longer than you so don't get upset).
Do NOT romanticize the poison. You are a nicotine addict.
So am I, but 653 days ago I started drinking the KTC kool-aide, and have been nicotine free since... Read everything on KTC. Start with the welcome center, and then read some intro threads from start to finish. Read a few intros from the front pages, and then some from bad ass quitters on the back pages. Read cancer stories. Learn how we quit at KTC, and then live the plan. The plan works.
The first part of your quit will be the hardest. My first stretch of quit was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but it is so worth the fight. Just worry about staying quit right now.
Great job posting roll! Roll call is the cornerstone of our quit. You will have a much greater chance of success if you post roll 100% of the time. 100% roll call posters are quitters. Swap #s with your quit group and make friends. Adopt a day 1 quitter. Build your accountability.
Most important of all though is make sure you are quitting for you. Quit because you want to grow old with your wife and watch your children grow up and have families of their own. Do not quit b/c your wife wants you too. The right mindset will make all the difference. Resent the poison and not your family. PM me if you got ?s.

Thanks for the advice B-loMatt. Just to clarify, I'm not doing this for my wife or anyone else but me. I think my wife just gave me the last bit of motivation I needed to finally take the first step. I honestly wanted to for a while but always seemed to find an excuse not to. It disgusts me to think about though. There were times that my mouth would be so sore it would bleed after brushing my teeth but I would just keep packing a dip in at regular intervals.
I've been reading up throughout the website and there's some pretty great advice and people willing to help. I'm leaving my check card at home during the day so that even if the temptation becomes overwhelming, I simply don't have access to the funds to purchase it (I rarely ever carry cash and if there was an emergency that required money I only work 5 miles away from home). I don't plan on this being an issue, but I want to remove any possibility that I'm going to walk into the convenience store and grab a can.

Awesome! I'm on day 2 also. The struggle is real. Glad you're here.

Hang tough rob time to find out what your made of. You got this man do anything to keep yourself busy these first few days. I would literally get down and do pushups at work the first couple weeks. Get MAD at nicotine it has lied to you for 13 years. But now you have the advantage brother you have us AND the knowledge that it was all a lie. If you haven't checked it out Google nicotine addiction 101 it really helped me understand the internal battle going on in your head. Don't listen the lies!! And remember, you can't have a dip if your in chat.
Keep kicking ass!

I'm on day 2 with you and Gargoose as well. Hang in there, I am, and it sucks.

Just wanted to give a shout out to my fellow June goons who are fighting the good fight. These first 3 days have been hell but you've made it bearable. On to day 4!

Awesome work Rob! Make sure you have a plan for your first quit weekend...

Awesome! Day 6 here... read the need help list... helped me understand what this whole thing is about. It does suck, but it will get better.

Rob if you want this, take it! Damn proud to be quit with you today!

Brothers, I hate to brag but I feel like a million bucks and I gotta share this story. Been going to the same convenience store almost every day for 3 years to get my dip. I haven't been there since my quit day 5 days ago. Ran out of coffee this morning so decided to head there and pick some up. I get to the store, grab some coffee, and head to the counter. As mentioned, I'm a regular there so as soon as I get to the counter the clerk has a can of Kodiak waiting for me. Without hesitation I just told him no and explained that I don't do that anymore. BOOM! Not today nic bitch. Not tomorrow or any other day for that matter. I'm done with you. You no longer control me. I know there will be many more tests but hot damn, my adrenaline is flowing and I feel like I just won a major battle. Wouldn't be able to do this without your support brothers.

Great stories, Rob. I can relate to the wife convo and the c-store. My wife said the same stuff, starting about when I was 28. I'm 44. Better late than never but It's awesome you didn't wait another 16 years like I did. At the gas station by my house, they all knew me. The greeting was, "Hi, one or two?" My response was usually, "Two please." I could not go in with my kids. I would literally make them wait in the car...dad of the year material. I am proud to be quit with you today.

That's awesome!! Keep it up, brother. We're in this together!

Great quit going off in here... Bunch of young bucks figuring it out.
Smells good. Looks good.. Get ready.
These men are like a bird dog on Point.
Keep it up NKYRob!
Great quit started here.

Awesome work Rob! Make sure you have a plan for your first quit weekend...
Gotta admit, I completely underestimated the weekend. Figured if I could get through the weekdays at work that I could handle the weekend the same way. WRONG! The temptations were so much different. Watching college basketball, walking to the park with the kids, watching a movie with the wife; all times I would previously have a dip in. Got through it, but I should have taken your advice more seriously. Now I know what to expect this weekend. Hopefully anyone else that reads this understands that the weekends are truly a different animal.

Rob,
Even though you weren't prepared - you still kept your promise which is a big win! Nice work. Just think of what you can do when you prepare. Speaking of which, do you have a "No-Cave Plan"? When the nic- bitch comes calling and you are most vulnerable, it sure helps to have a plan. Mine is that I keep a copy of the Contract to Give Up in my wallet. (have you seen that) And I have three quit brothers numbers at the top of my contact list. Part of my promise is to read and sign the contract ans call three of my quit brothers before taking any steps toward a cave.
PM me if you need some more digits. You've got this and it gets so much better.
Quit with you.

Thanks for the advice Christopher. Didn't really have a formal no-cave plan, but it can't hurt to put one together. The June goons have a persistent chat on mobile where we stay in constant contact with each other. It's good to have that so we can lean on each other and keep in contact. I'll send you my number in PM. Can't hurt to have more numbers from this fine group. In the meantime, I'll start working on a more formal plan.

Congrats on 50 days Robby! You are in a new place now and ages from where you were back in March.
