I'm Andy. I'm in the January 2019 group. I was on here about 4 years ago, and had stopped for about 2 years. Then I relapsed. It started with a cigarette. My old name was pilotandy. Anyway, I almost caved last night, but I got a nice email from Roger and tossed my 1/2 can of grizzly away. New York to LAX suuuuuucked without a dip. I fly for the airlines and chewing has always been easy to do up there in the sky. Or in the hotel room. Or on the way to work. Or on the way home. Or when working on the house. I like the mint herbal chews and I'm glad to see all the new products out there. I haven't felt the need to get any of them yet. I'm glad oregon mint snuff isn't the only game in town anymore, that stuff sucked.

Hello Andy, welcome. I am on day 2 here myself. If you haven't already, get some numbers from people and give them your number. I had 8 people text me today and encourage me, they helped me get through the day. We are all here to support each other.
I am proud to quit with you today.

Welcome back. Are you going to come visit us Jackwagins in Jan. 13 and face the 3 questions? We’re still quit over there, just celebrated 6 years.

Hey bro. I know what you mean! I had quit for 10 years! Its a beast of an addiction ! I had an agricultural job where we would sit around a conference room and all the techs would dip snuff. I notice the urge to start dipping again getting stronger! It wasn't long I stopped at a gas station and completely caved! It was as if I had never quit. I hate snuff! I hate being controlled by this beast! We have to stay strong in our mind, refusing to be controlled by the addiction! And the good news is, We CAN! We can beat this once and for all. I am proud to quit with you Andy, and all my Quit Brothers!!!! Be blessed friends!

I "quit" for two months last year. Why did I start again? No excuses, 15 years is too long. I can go fishing without this shit. I won't have to hide or stay up late so my wife doesn't find out. I will hopefully not have mouth cancer.
Day one here we go.

More about me as I read the other intros:
I am an airline pilot. I like to fish. I like to drink beer with my friends. Guess what activities usually came with a big ol' wad of mint grizzly? I don't even like the smell of the shit, but I put it in my mouth. How stupid is that?
I like herbal tea, and chewing gum, and I've tried the Oregon mint snuff. I think those weapons will help me through the first few days. This website was a goldmine of info and support. I'm glad I found it.
Also, I'm going to the dentist to get a cancer check on October 18. Let's hope I didn't give myself mouth cancer.

You can do this Andy.
I saw you posted roll.
Keep your word.

We all do the same, "quit one day at a time"! The brotherhood is a great tool in quitting use it.

welcome aboard! read the fuck outta this site, you'll find so much strength from the vets on here that have been down this road.

I have had many "quits" before this one. This one is different because it is for real this time. This site is a tremendous help. Just peruse it. Read everything. Great great resource. Helps a ton.

I'm on day 6. Each day seems to get a little bit easier than the last. Each day when I wake up I tell myself that I will not cave and that this is a lot easier than having half my face rot off from a tumor.
Remember, your brain will trick you into thinking that just one is fine.
Don't do it. (Cave)

Thanks for the rePlies. Im curious what kind of physical healing have people been noticing in their mouths? I have the receded gums and the pockets from where i always held a dip. Does all that heal? I have a painless nodule under my front lower teeth on the tongue side. It is way down by the saliva glands and i can wiggle it with my tongue. It feels like cartilage (i hope) i am gettin it checked out on the 18th.
Will a dentist do a biopsy? If it were cancer, wouldnt it be painful?
-
Andy, you sound just like me (and my name is Andy too, and weirdly enough, I dipped Grizzly Mint as well, haha), worried out of your damn mind! Thats why i want to quit....i constantly agonize over every little bump and scratch in my mouth being cancer and how if it is, it could have all been avoided.
As for the nodule, Im definitely not a dentist or doctor, but it sounds like nothing. I got a little nodule on the side of my gums back towards my molars that has been there for years, but like you, every once in a while, i start thinking its getting bigger and start to freak out. Before i know it, ive wasted hours or days worrying about it when all i have to do it quit and be done worrying.
Im only on Day 5 man, but im right there with ya. It sucks and is hard as hell, this morning was certainly the hardest day yet and this weekend is going to fucking suck! However, this website does give you strength in a weird way. If you ever need anything, holler and send me a PM. Have a good one man and keep us informed about the dentist.
'Finger' Nicotine!!!

I too have found a painless, pea sized, hard, moveable nodule on my gums. It is probably benign but its always a good idea to have a professional check it out to make sure. You can never be too safe or too quit.

Hey pilot who you with ? JEP here, I'm with Delta in Atl, Working on my quit too. I'm not doing the cold Turkey thing, tried that before didn't work so Ive got myself on a time schedule. Good luck to you.
-
When I quit 24 days ago I was on the verge of losing one of my teeth. It was wiggling pretty bad and felt it would pop out at any second. My gums are strengthening now and the tooth feels pretty secure. I still get little sores in my mouth. Nothing to get excited about. I'm not as congested anymore. Taste buds are regenerating also cause food tastes alot better.

JEP Im at Skywest out of Ohare. I used to fly cargo at night at Airnet and boy did I use the excuse, "I need it to stay awake!"
I hope the quitting goes well for you. Know when you will be tempted and brace for it. Weekend bonfire here i come.

Hey -
saw your day 7 posting, and great job. Just wanted to re-iterate that you need to watch yourself, cause the nic lady will call you and you put yourself in a bad situation, having it in your hands.
And also as I know we have said on the site as to why we would put poison in our body, then why would we want to pass it along from friends. God when I dipped I have no idea how many times my wife picked it up for me when I asked her to. How stupid of an idea is that, "Oh Hun, how about bringing me something that I can poison myself with".
I mentioned it in the thread, next time be a true friend and tell him you cannot get anything for him that will poison him.
