I'm on day 6 of my quit, so I figured I'd post something. I'm a bit old fashioned in the sense of feeling weird posting in front of a virtual community, but I do know that I've got a problem and it's really hard to give up and am very thankful for the site and support.

I've been dipping mostly copenhagen since I was 18 and I'm 43 now. Sad thing is I didn't even contemplate quitting until now. It started senior year in high school with pouches then in college (when everyone seemed to dip) with red man, skoal then cope, and I just never stopped if any thing I did it more.

I was at the dentist and my hygienist found this white sheath in part of my gum (which I think is leukoplakia) and with that and the fact I'm just feeling older, have a serious girlfriend with a daughter, I would hate them to see me die and I'd feel like an idiot, too. I just hope it's not too late.

In the last six days since I've quit, I'm realized how often I chewed. I had a small dip in all of the time--often while sleeping! I didn't spit much, just had one in...of course, some times were even more satisfying than others--after a fight, while fishing (and I fish a lot!!), bird hunting, driving, thinking, lounging, working...I wish I had one right now! I'll tell you this--I'm too much of an addict and a pussy to crater if I don't have support. My girlfriend is helping a lot and this site is too. I'm reading a lot from it, and never realized the problem was so bad. Just something I did, and how idiotic is that? I am seriously doing this one day at a time and that's been the only way for the last 6 days. Actually, if I manage to get through today it will be day 6!

This site can help you kick your nicotine addiction (not a habit) to the curb. We don't use words like try or hope as they are just another excuse for our addictive brains to tell us another lie. There are no short cuts, but here are some links that will help you navigate this site.

Anything short of that sets you up for failure by allowing your addict brain to blame a given situation as reason for you to go back to the can. Quitting out of fear, based on a medical issue, will fade as soon as the doctor or dentist gives you a clean bill of health.

Post Roll every day or communicate with someone and have them post via text, email or call. Get as many number of your group as you can and use them frequently. Keep in touch with your quit brothers. Send them a PM, text or call every few days just to keep an open line of communication. Give them your email address. Make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to go a day without several people contacting you all day if you don't post roll.

Hooked- ^^^^^this man knows how to quit. Read, read and read some more on this site. I was never big on virtual communities either, mainly because I've never been a part of one but this site have been a cornerstone of my quit. Buy into it with all you've got but most importantly QUIT nicotine early and everyday by posting roll in your group. Make that promise to yourself and all of us that for 24 hours you won't abuse the drug that is nicotine.

Drink lots of water as well- it'll help with the fog.

Quit hard and quit on.

Thatta boy hooked. I agree about the virtual community... Strange is an understatement but I had the opportunity to meet up w/ 4 KTC quitter last month in San Diego  it cemented my quit. I'll never go back again. Nor should you. You can do this. Reach out to us  invest yourself into this KTC thing b/c it works. Welcome to the family bro.

My story is a lot like yours. I never even tried to quit until I hit my mid 40s and I dipped 2 - 3 cans every day for over 20 years. Listen to these guys and tough it out. I kept reading that it gets better but I didn't believe it until I finally felt better myself. One day at a time. The first month went slow for me but after that the days got back to some kind if normal. After 111 days there are few times during the day that I think about it. Tough it out. It's worth it.

I understand the feeling of weirdness posting to a bunch of strangers, I first posted when I was 54 and couldn't imagine sharing much online. 2 1/2 years later this is just part of my life.

I also am an awful lot like you, chewed Cope for 33 years, gutted it the last 10-12, tin-a-day. Never really wanted to quit until this battle. I'm at day 162, and I did it one day at a time. Most important thing to me is to wake up, piss, and honor roll right away to start your day. After that, you've removed the chance to fail ... because you've made the promise to yourself and everyone here that you will not touch nicotine for the day. And a man of integrity keeps his word! In the end, that's really all we're left with.

Good decision coming on here, welcome to the nut house. KTC and the brothers/sisters here are the tools you'll need to make this FINAL! Start looking around, start picking up some tools. I'll quit with you today!

Hooked, dive in head first, I am 45 and was skeptical about the social aspect, hell, I didn't even have a cell phone when I first quit. Now, I have 26 numbers, 3 are family, 1 is work related, and 22 are KTC quitters, all in 5 months of owning a phone. If I can change and quit, so can you. Tough out this weekend, and never look back. My number is in a PM.

So you like to fish Hooked - you got some bad ass quitters lining up like a samon spawn run in this thread. I was a 34 years user who never attempted to quit as well. I never would have suceeded without reading the info on here. Another thing that helped me tremendously in the early days was exercise. When the cravings start, get active, run, walk, bike, wash the car. It's still my weapon against the nic bitch. PM away if needed.

Sound pretty corny huh? Yea, we all thought so too. But corny as it may be, it's pretty freaking real. Like Thumble, I have a roster of digits in my phone and these guys are like family to me. I call them brother and like a brother I would do whatever it takes to keep that brother quit. And you know what, they'd do the same for me. So look past the corniness and drink the Kool-aid...because it works. We are quit and we are free.

You get out what you put into it. Post roll daily...earn respect, just by doing that one deed. Build accountability by creating a network...sometimes it comes to you, sometimes you need to seek it out. Foster those relationships in that network...a text message of support, a PM, a roll post in support, a phone call, an intro page response, etc. All things we can do to foster that relationship. Do this and you will build your brethren.

And there you have it. Accountability + Brotherhood = Success
