Title: Hopefully this is the last time
Post by: tryan1020 on December 16, 2016, 09:09:00 AM
Hey guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself. Started dipping at 16, about 11 years ago. The whole baseball thing got me into it.

Went to college to play baseball, kept doing it, and told myself it would stop when I graduated college. Here I am, 5 years later still doing 1+ cans of Grizz Wintegreeen a day.

Yesterday something told me the right time to quit was now. I went on this site, got some motivation and threw 2 full cans in the trash. 24 hours will be official in about 4 hours.

I have tried to do it before, but this time is going to be different.

Why is it going to be different? Two words you need to get rid of, hope and try, they have no place here.

Have you posted roll? If you do nothing else here, each day you need your name on there promising you will not use nicotine today.

Welcome to the best decision you have ever made, let me know if I can help.

^^ not much else to add after that solid advice.
Post roll and invest in your quit, we can't care about your quit more than you...

Evening Mr. T Ryan,

Just sent you an email. Not looking good you've not posted a day one. You have to want this for yourself more than anything else. Hopefully, you'll choose correctly. But that's your choice, not mine or anyone else's here.

Stop trying, decide to do. Dump it all and post your first day. Different means posting roll. Learn about posting roll here. (http://forum.killthecan.org/forum/55560/) and don't miss a day... that's it.

Shout if you need 'help' but you gotta 'help' yourself, too.

"This time is going to be different."

Way bigger than that......
It's like you have to die.
Everything you ever did is over.
It's a new life.
With new responsibility.
With self conflicting pain of going without.
It hurts telling yourself NO.
It makes us angry.
Its causes anxiety and fear.

You cant do it alone....
And you cant do it for the wrong reasons.
People here are ready to walk with you every second, minute, hour, ODAAT.

Life CAN be filled with Meaning, Purpose, and Hope.
Lets start walking towards the truth.
It takes a little discipline and accountability.

Take a step out of the dark
And into the light.
Posting Roll is turning on the light!
Then all the rats run away.....

This time is not different...Yet

Thanks guys. Still going strong. Not super active here, but I swing by if I feel like I need it.

I will be honest and say the cravings have been extremely minimal. I have really just invested in this, and aside from about a half a pack of gum since my quite date, I haven't needed anything else.

Let's pretend you put a parachute on and there were four straps that held the chute to you. Then I told you that you would definitely make it safely to the ground if I didn't cut any straps, you would probably make it safely to the ground if I cut one strap, you might not make it safely to the ground if I cut two straps, and you would be lucky to live if I cut three straps. How many straps are you going to let me cut?

The same applies to controlling your addiction. You might be able to make it all by yourself, but why not have all four straps still connected when you jump out of the plane? Don't just "swing by" when you feel like it to grace us with your presence. Put in some work, post roll, and be a man of integrity in March. THIS will give you the best chance of making it to the ground safely.

Don't kid yourself. You've tried quitting on your own and failed. Probably dozens of times. I know I have. Truth is, this is a bitch of an addiction to conquer. Use the tools that this place willingly provides and it becomes easier. You don't have to do it alone. If you buy into this place, and the message, and the brotherhood, you can't fail. You might succeed on your own, but you WILL succeed here if you do it right. Decision seems easy, but only you can decide to take that plunge.

Awfully white of you. I'll quit with real quitters (roll posters), thanks.

It is funny that everyone seems to begrudge people for wanting to do things there own way?

Apparently, if I don't follow the letter of the law, I am somehow less of a person, or less of a quitter. To be frank, posting roll is confusing to me... I am reading other peoples journey's, but to be honest I am quitting for one person, and that is me.

it is nice to know there are people out there supporting me (girlfriend, parents, friends) all holding me accountable, and I thought people here as well, but apparently unless you post roll you aren't a real "quitter"

Good to know.

Support is there. You're obviously taking it by reading "other people's journey's". The price of that support is posting roll. So... I guess you're freeloading. More importantly though, what if some day you really need support beyond reading a HOF speech or an intro? Will any of us be able to help you?  Do we want to? Probably not, because you've invested nothing in us. Pretty simple.

We follow the roll posts because there is proof that it works. I tried "quitting" for a year and I always caved. Coming onto this site was last resort save my life deal. You probably
didn't feel like dipping everyday, but you probably did. The point of posting is promising people in your quit group you will not use nic of any kind for the day. It helps you and your
group succeed to a life of freedom. Everyone is really nice on this site, but if you think you can come in and post when you want, people will not respect you. You probably never forgot to
dip everyday, so why would a promise everyday be any different???? It's literally 5-10 minutes of time out of your day to save your life. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. We are
serious because quitting IS serious. This site is for people to get help and stay quit forever. So wake up and post everyday, be a man of your word, that's all we ask. All the rules are
specified before you register so this is not a big surprise to what is expected of you. THIS SITE WORKS, but you have to put in the effort. We care and these vets HAVE seen it all
I would listen to them if you really want to quit. PM (personal message) someone or me for phone numbers and get involved with your quit, trust me it makes it easier than trying to
do it alone.

Ok tryan, I'm gonna tryan lay this out as reasonably and succinctly as possible.

We encourage posting roll because it works. It's your promise to yourself and your group that you're going to be clean that day. We quit for a day because you can do anything for a day. We take away the defeatist attitude of trying and replace it with the positivity of doing. We replace hope with action and decisiveness. We see nicotine for the death sentence that it is and fight daily to keep it out of our lives. Most of us have had zero success on our own. We tried, collectively, to quit thousands of times and failed. We lied to ourselves, our families and our friends. They didn't know what withdrawals were like and didn't understand what we were going through. But not here. Here it's different. Here, that little promise in your group is the gospel. When you post each day, you can't fail, it's that simple. It makes you stronger then the draw. When you honor a promise, you become honorable.

We've all been right there where you are, tryan. We came here for help and listened to what others had to say. We learned how to copy, cut and paste our way to freedom. We let down our guard and did what they said to do. We got some phone numbers of other quitters and we helped them if we could and asked for help if needed.

We did something different and it worked.

I guess you didn't "need it" today. I hope that means you're still quit.

Do you see the difference? When you post your promise every day, you are telling us you're quit. That way we can help you when the going gets rough. When you stop by because you feel like it, all we can do is hope. Hope sucks when it comes to addiction. I never hope for any result. I post every morning and I'll be damned if I screw over all these quitters that grace these halls by going back on that promise.

The difference is, if you see my name on roll on any given day, you do NOT have to worry about whether I'm quit that day. I promised I would be, and I'm a man of integrity. For you, we hope you're quit, because you only come around when it suits your fancy.

Quitters quit every day. Former users just don't use every day. It's a big difference and one you will come to know very quickly if/when you buy-in. Choice is yours.

"Quitters quit every day. Former users just don't use every day. It's a big difference and one you will come to know very quickly if/when you buy-in. Choice is yours."

This I don't agree with. It has been 3+ weeks without a dip. I have quit.. I am maybe a former user, but I have also quit. Just because I don't post roll doesn't make me any less of a quitter.

If this place is so short-sighted as to reject people for not posting roll, then maybe I am in the wrong place.

Maybe you are.....

Look, this place was built for the countless thousands of nicotine addicts who, unlike you, were unable to walk away from their addiction. Don't get me wrong; I'm not "rejecting you". I'm very happy you've been able to kill the can on your own, using your own methods, and reading about other's struggles. But you're missing the larger picture here.....it's about a brotherhood/sisterhood of quitters, who are much, MUCH more than just stupid avatars on a forum. Over time, if you invest in them, they become an extended family. And that whole process starts with the roll..... but I guess you just don't see that.

Of course, if you're fine with the family you have and you don't want to be bothered with helping other folks through the struggle, you're free to do it your own way. I'm not judging you. I'm glad you're quit. But you should have done just a tad bit more research before posting up your introduction. Have yourself a great quit, Mr. Ryan.

If you quit on your own, great! That's what we all want. However, Like CavMan  CBird stated, this is a place of accountability and brotherhood that results in successes for the masses. I can tell you one thing that is hard to find anywhere else. If I or anyone else on this site is struggling, I can DM, email, or text any one of these people on here, whether or not I've ever personally spoke to them about my quit issues and they will give me an honest answer and help me through the issues at hand. To be totally honest, I don't think that I would have been able to quit without my brothers and sisters here at KTC. I am pretty sure I would still be hiding my habit from every one around me, and saying "no I will quit soon" and as we all know, soon never really comes.

You will lose it and cave. You have not posted roll and don't care to. Leave

New quitters and guests please read this and understand that posting roll is the absolute cornerstone of your quit. He says he has his wife/ girlfriend and his parents keeping him accountable. That's not acceptable as your only form of accountability. I know being a former ninja dipper that I used to be able to hide a dip with the best of them and no one ever knew.

Also, how much do they know about being an addict and quitting..... nothing. We all know what this is like and have all placed a day 1 and gone through the suck/ fog. And if you are thinking about joining this site and quitting for real then you need to buy in and embrace your fellow quitters. That is how brotherhood is built. You join together for 1 single goal and that is being quit. Damn that is cool to have hundreds of people fighting in my corner. He has 3 and most likely all 3 could care less or would just accept it if he took 1 dip or smoked 1 cigarette. We say FUCK that here. No use of nicotine..... period

Buy in and understand this is not a 1 time thing or a sometimes thing. It is an all the time thing. We post daily and make sure that we are quit daily. Accountability + Brotherhood = Success. You will only be successful once you understand this. Dive in and you too can be free from nicotine.
