There was a time when nicotine was accepted, even encouraged. The 50's were the golden age of tobacco: Bogart, Wayne, http://bit.ly/H3fvQ3 (http://bit.ly/H3fvQ3) to name a few, died from living in this golden age due in part to the problems associated with tobacco.
I was in utero with Mom (RIP) as she smoked 2 packs of Winstons a day.
So, as Lady Gaga says, I was 'born this way'. But it sure doesn't mean I have to stay this way. Blaming the past and not making needed changes just is not productive. 23-March-2012 is a quit.
Remember, tobacco spit looks rather golden, as does a smoker's lung tissue. The golden age.
Thanks for support, @ll. Scott

Burn your boat. Anything else is just trying. We don't try here. We do.
How about you?

Thank you, Ready. I do agree with this 'burning boats' idea. Unfortunately, this mass marketed product is readily available, 24 hours a day, and I can hardly destroy the source of the product. I'm thinking that avoidance is the best method for my army:
1) I never hang out with anyone that uses. Period. I walk away.
2) I do not enter convenience stores. Pay at the pump.
3) I do not go within 50 feet of the tobacco counter at the grocery store.
I know this may not work to everyone, because they may have deep social connections with tobacco culture.
I will do. Thanks, Scott

That is a good list. I would also add:
4. Avoid using alcohol for quite a while.
5. Get phone numbers of my quit brothers. Use when needed.
6. Find substitute oral fixations such as sunflower seeds and bubble gum.
I used to hang out with friends that used chewing tobacco all the time. I find that I do not hang out with them as much anymore. I paid at the pump for quite a while too. I also avoided the tobacco section of my grocery store like the plague. Eventually, all these things will become easier to deal with. It just takes time. Stay quit brother!

Really feeling the support...many thanks Souliman and Grizzly25 for props and quotes.
My Day 4 is going well...did at least 10 things today, things I used to do with nic. While my addicted brain tries to tell me 'no fun', I will yell out... 'be the quit'.
Spring 2012 will be memorable, that's for sure. Scott

Thats awesome man! Life is different for the first few weeks when you do things you're used to doing with a dip in.. Once you break that habit, you only have the nic bitch to give a back hand to.. And the best thing about it is her visits end up going few and far between..
You're almost at the top of the mountain brother, once you get to the top the sun shines..
Stay quit brother!!
