Title: Hello, please help
Post by: Gossamer_G30 on October 26, 2012, 12:47:00 PM
Please help. I want to quit, have tried many times, and failed. I started smoking in 1990, and quit in 1998. I got to where I was smoking 2 packs a day and dipping 1 can a day (back then, that was a $10 a day habit. Quitting smoking was "easy".

I have been dipping since 1990. I dip about 1-2 cans a day (10-12 cans in a 1-week period). If I am awake, I have a dip in my mouth. Not just a "pinch", but a good 2-finger dip.

I have tried and failed many times, have tried "back-off" and other types, but cannot stand them. I know dipping is very bad for me, but I enjoy dipping. Yes, it is nasty, espicially when you pick up your bottle of coke for a drink, but drink your own spit instead.

It is hard to quit something you enjoy.

Please help me make the first step.

Is it hard to quit something that is killing you?

Is it hard to quit something that is making you its bitch?

Is it hard to quit something that is taking time away from everyone and everything you love?

Yes, its hard to quit, but you know what? It's a lot better then results to not quitting. The suck, that does make it hard, only lasts 3-4 days, after that its all mental. You're worshiping that little can, instead switch your mindset, fuck that can, fuck big tabakky and fuck paying for something that's killing you.

You're an addict, you're a slave...I'm an addict that realized I was a slave and 341 days ago, I fuckin did somethin about it, take your first step, take back your life and dump all forms of nic out cold turkey and start day 1 by posting roll in Feb'13. I was there bro, the difference was I made a decision

Gossamer, I am sure that some of the older guys will be along shortly to give you some advise and words of wisdom, but until then let me throw in my 2 cents.

No one can "Make" you want to quit, that's all on you. We can help support you, stand by your side and listen to you bitch when the time comes. We can also kick you in the shorts to help get you out of the funk youÂ’re going to go through soon. However, only you can make yourself stop.

As for the enjoying dipping, you could not be more wrong. You hate the withdrawal symptoms of not having nicotine coursing through your blood stream, but you most defiantly don't enjoy dipping, trust me on this one. I know, I'm a friggen Addict just like you!

So my advice to you, Dump out the can, flush the shit, throw away all your old cans, stash, coupons and spitters. Stand up, and Quit with the rest of us. As soon as you've no more chew in your lip, then you are quit and you can post roll and hold yourself accountable to stay nicotine free for the rest of the day.

I will quit with you today, all you have to do is walk away from it and we will be there for you.

Dozer

"Quit something you enjoy"...

Your feeding yourself a line of shit. You addict brain is making you think you enjoy dipping. Let me ask you this, when is the last time you got buzzed from dip? Maybe the first month you dipped? Or when you lost a can and felt like shit for a day?

Nicotine does nothing for you but make you avoid withdrawal symptoms. Really dip does nothing but force you to feed the addiction so you can feel "normal". Your killing yourself for nothing honestly.

These thoughts about losing a "friend" are very normal and often the toughest part of withdrawal. How can you possibly do anything without your old friend dip? Well you can. All you need to do is make that decision to live nic bitch free for a day, each day. I've done it for 619 consecutive days. Others on here much more than that.

We all have something in common.... We post roll every day making a promise to the brotherhood that we will not use that day, and we honor that promise.

You want to join? Good, find your quit group and post up your "day 1", its liberating. When your ready to step up the accountability also click on the link in my signature, "May 2011 3 ballers" and post roll there as well... better yet post your day 1 there after posting in your group. The added accountability will help you immensely, you might even get to sprout a third ball yourself. Time to man up. Grab you balls and quit.

Yes, addicts to enjoy their addiction.

Q: Why do addicts enjoy dipping?
Q: Would you enjoy dipping fake dip? That is, dip without nicotine?

A: I submit to you that you enjoy dipping not because you enjoy dipping, but instead, you do NOT enjoy NOT dipping. In other words, you dip because you HATE withdrawing. This is the plight of an addict. We will go through hell and back not to withdraw. We live to dip.... to not ....withdraw. This is not a great life. Answer this question, why are you here, because you love dip? No, because you hate addiction. Indeed it sux. Sux. Sux. Sux.

There is good news friend, you can live without dip. I mean really live.

Chime in here guys.

You must go through withdrawal to get there. It is worth it though.

Think about what I wrote. If you are ready for a better life post roll. It is hard but worth every hardship.

Edit...I see Mag below is thinking like me. Thinking like an addict. Read these two posts.

Thanks all. I guess it is the withdrawls I want to avoid. This has just became a very bad habit, that needs to be replaced with a "good" habit.

Scowick, I have tried the non-nicotine "dips"... Just not the same...

Magnum, I get my "buzz" with the first dip every morning. First thing I do is, get up (0630), brush my teeth, take my meds, then get a dip "to start the morning off right". Then, I fix breakfast, eat, get another dip, and drive to work. About 0830-0900, spit out my 2nd dip of the day, drink a cup of coffee, then get my 3rd dip. This one will last me until lunch. Eat lunch about 1200, then another dip by 1230-1245. About 1430-1500 spit it out again, get my afternoon coffee, then another dip. I "freshen" up the dip about 1700 for the drive home. Eat about 1800, then, yes you guessed it, another dip. Head to bed about 2200. Routine the same day after day after day. 'bang head'

I am addicted very badly. You can probably tell from the paragraph above that I have a little "O.C.D." thing going on. I am a creature of habit, and like my routines.

I can only imagine what I could spend the $150 a month on that I am "spitting" away.

Honestly, I guess I am a little "scared" to be losing my friend. I know my friend is not helping me...

I guess now I need to make the decision to "man-up"...

Any tips on psyching yourself up to quit???

Thanks,
Rob

Grow a pair and use the pain of withdrawals as your motivation. It won't be easy, but beats the alternative.

Also read all of both of these stories, it will be hard but read them both and then let me know how you feel about continuing to use.

So even if you chalk up one dip that gives you a shittly little buzz for 60 seconds what are the rest of those for? Maintenance... to keep the nic bitch from screaming at you.

You are an addict. Just like me. Dip does NOT do anything but keep the bitch at bay. Good thing is you no longer have to be a helpless addict. You CAN live nicotine free.

You will never be "psyched" up for quitting. It's not going to happen. What can happen is you man up and realize that the only thing keeping you attached is the pussy addict side that won't make the decision to let go. You can be a man and make this decision. Once you cross the line toward freedom you need to burn your boat so there is no going back.

That last point is something that many cavers don't ever do. You can't just dismantle your boat and leave it on shore. By that metaphor I mean that no matter how hard its going to be, you simply make the decision to be done and NOTHING can waiver your choice. When you get to that point you will be as psyched up as you need to be.

Don't wait for that first cancer spot to start before you finally get to that point. Don't wait until you have a heart attack.

Don't wait any longer. Just make that decision and get started.

We'll give you a break for the first week or so on correctly posting roll. Just make sure your promise is made. Do it in the morning when you wake up so you don't leave your addict side an out. If you can't get to a computer you can send me a text message if you want. Click my name over on the side and send me a PM if you want my phone number.

Let me preface this post. You won't like it but this is what you need to hear.

I have never seen an intro post so full of absolute fail.

it isnt that you can't quit, it's that you won't.

Your not a unique and special butterfly, your an addict of the first class , deluded into believing a neurotoxic weed is a friend. The only difference between you and a crack whore is your choice of drugs.

Unless you pull your head out of your posterior you dont have a chance, but lets try.

No, it is an addiction. a habit is picking your nose. You my delusional pal are a world class addict who is commiting suicide on the installment plan. They describe death by mouth cancer as death by autopsy. They remove pieces of your face over a period of months while they BBQ you with radiation and pump you full of chemo. That is not the end result of a bad habit. index.php?showtopic=6786 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=6786)

Second,

The comfort you think you get from having a chew is actuallt the relief from withdrawls from nicotine. That manure in a can doesn't do anything but fix the problems it created in the first place.

Third,

Hard to quit something you enjoy? Bah. What is it you enjoy? The rancid spitters, the stupid lump in your mouth? If God wanted you to walk around with a fat lip he woulda punched you in the face before he put you in the game. The only thing that shit is good for is keeping you addicted to it. It doesn't make you smarter stronger, more focused, more social, more awake, or tough. It makes you impotent, sick, poor, ugly , and ultimately dead.

You ask for help, ask for prayers, and talk about I tried and tried. Makes me wanna eat my keyboard. Where is the personal responsibility. This is a choice. You can quit or don't quit. Your choice. Nobody is going to sneak up behind you and shove a dip in your mouth.

Do or do not, there is no try. Yoda

You want to avoid the withdrawls? then you never shoulda started. There is no magic pill. Thats why nicotine replacement and weaning off don't fucking work. Thats why 93% of all successful long term quits are cold turkey. If your looking for a easy solution, I got bad news for ya cup cake. Ain't one. the only way out of this mess is thru it, and you better accept that or you might as well go back to stuffing your face with mint flavored cancer.

The withdrawl wont kill you, and it is the price of admission to get your freedom. Get over it.

I strongly strongly recommend you get a book by Alan Carr called the easy way to quit smoking. Doesn't matter that it is dip. Nicotine is nicotine and the concepts are the same. You need to read everything you can find about nicotine addiction. Start on the other resources section of this site and READ ALL OF IT. Yes I said all of it.

Trust the ole Skoal Monster. If there is one person I owe my quit to its the Monster.
Though he hasn't said anything terribly different from what you have seen already, his post is simply brilliant.

Do not sell yourself short. This is about you versus the addict part of you. The nic bitch is an external force that we can no longer control since we let her into our lives. You will never get her completely out of your life. But she retains no internal control over your decision making. Its just you versus yourself.

Are you stronger than your weak side? The answer is yes, but you must let yourself conquer your inner pussy. Again, its about grabbing your nut sack and being a man...

Have you clicked on my link for the "May 3 ballers"? Every new quitter could use a little more accountability and motivation. Take the 3-balled challenge to grow your own third testicle by posting roll with us every day. You might not understand it now but you will be damn proud of your third ball.

As promised, this is from additional resources. Good stuff there. Nice day 2. Gossamer, shall we make it three?

My Chew, My Friend

How do you feel about a friend who has to go everywhere with you? Not only does he tag along all the time, but since he is so offensive and vulgar, you become unwelcome when with him. He has a peculiar odor that sticks to you wherever you go. Others think both of you stink.

He controls you totally. When he says jump, you jump. Sometimes in the middle of a blizzard or storm, he wants you to come to the store and pick him up. You would give your spouse hell if he or she did that to you all the time, but you can't argue with your friend. Sometimes, when you are out with others he says he wants you to leave them so you can be alone. Since he calls all the shots in your life, you go.

He gets pretty expensive to support. Not only is his knack of property destruction costly, but you must pay to keep him with you. In fact, he will cost you tens of thousands of dollars over your lifetime. And you can count on one thing: he will never pay you a penny in return.

Often at picnics you watch others playing vigorous activities and having lots of fun doing them. But your friend won't let you. He doesn't believe in physical activity. In his opinion, you are too old to have that kind of fun. He enjoys making your blood pressure ramp up so that physical activity only serves to strain your heart even further, with the eventual goal that you will one day have a heart attack if cancer doesnÂ’t get you sooner.

Your friend does not believe in being healthy. He is really repulsed by the thought of you living a long and productive life. So every chance he gets he makes you sick. He helps you catch colds and flu. Not just by running out in the middle of the lousy weather to pick him up at the store. He is more creative than that. He carries thousands of poisons with him so that when you chew some of them your immunity from diseases is lowered.

But colds and flu are just his form of child's play. He especially likes diseases that slowly cripple you and eventually your friend tires of you. He decides he no longer wishes to have your company. Instead of letting you go your separate ways, he decides to kill you. He has a wonderful arsenal of weapons behind him. In fact, he has been plotting your death since the day you met him. He picked all the top killers in society and did everything in his power to ensure you would get one of them. He overworked your heart, throat and tongue. He clogged up the arteries to your heart, brain, and every other part of your body. In case you were too strong to succumb to this, he constantly exposed you to cancer causing agents. He knew he would get you sooner or later.

Well, this is the story of your "friend," your dip. No real friend would do all this to you. Chewing tobacco is the worst possible enemy you ever had. It is expensive, addictive, socially unacceptable, and deadly. Consider all this and - NEVER TAKE ANOTHER CHEW!

I could tell from his intro he wasn't really ready. Maybe he'll do it before his face falls off or maybe he won't.
