Hello All

So I am filling out my introduction. I currently am oversees as I have been the past six years. I am usually somewhere where the military goes.

I have been dipping and/or smoking cigars since I was 12. The past ten years (of a 19 year habit) have seen the highest increase in usage.

I have gotten to the point where I didn't even take a dip out to eat or sleep. I literally had a dip in my mouth 24/7.

As a result, my teeth are brown, my gums have receded noticeably and i frequently get ulcers.

Despite the cost of dip, affects on health, begging of mother and wife to quit i never cared.

For some reason last Friday (14 Feb 2014) i decided i wanted to quit for me. I dont mean just switch to cigars or slowly quit using Nicolette or e-cigarette.

Aside from sugarless gum (which i have been chewing like a machine) i am doing this cold turkey.

I'm 1 week in. Cravings are less intense but now that its Friday night DAMN do i want a dip.

My wife hasn't been overly praising of my efforts and i dont blame her. I told i would quit so many times before so she thinks this is just another "phase."

Anyway, I am looking to supporting you guys and having you support me. Can't wait to get my 100 HOF coin. It will go with my other challenge coins.

Welcome brother. KTC will keep you quit if you go all in. By going all in you need to do the following:

Post roll with your quit group every single morning (you're in May 2014 - go there and post roll immediately).

Get to know other quitters -- exchange numbers, send messages, call, text, help others, let others know when you need help. We are saving each others' lives here.

Read everything especially the intros, HOF speeches, and words of wisdom sections.

You can do this. We quit for life here. But we do it one day at a time. You are already 7 days congrats!!! Now let's get on the program and make this a lifestyle change. You are free!!!!

Rick,
First of all welcome to KTC. We are all glad that you found us. You certainly seem to have the drive to quit, just start thinking of this as an addiction not a habit. Remember to take things one day at a time, never ever focus on tomorrow or next week, fight hourly at first, then daily. As was pointed out already you need to quit for you, once you do that the rest of your life can bask in the glory of your quit.

Urges and cravings will come and go, rage may become a factor as well. You may notice that your body will change some good, some bad. Read up on that stuff here, those who have walked the trail before you can help guide you through things when you need it.

Now learn how to post roll How to Post Roll (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=50).

Then join your quit group Pre HOF May 2014 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=9408), this will be the month at which you will hit your HOF or 100 days of quit, as long as you have the balls to quit.

Next read the HOM speeches and stories here, learn from the veterans. Look in the site for all kind of information like Spousal Support (http://www.killthecan.org/community/spousal-support/) or What to Expect (http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/what-to-expect-when-you-quit-dipping/)

Find an alternative to dip Smokeless Alternatives (http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/smokeless-alternatives/). Find other alternatives (candies, seeds, peanuts, beef jerky...). Also drink lots of water. Bump your intake so you have to stop at every urinal in order to not piss your pants.

Finally, get to know people, exchange phone numbers, make friends and quit.

P.S. All of the Bold and underlined words above are links to locations on this site.

Sincerely,
Pinched

7 days in, you're through the hardest part, the physical addition. Do EVERYTHING that Pinched told you to do in previous post. Post roll today and you're in May 2014 Quit Group. Welcome aboard!

Thank you guys for the already amazing support. Since I am in Korea for a few more months, my posting may be a little off (I am 14 hours ahead of EST). However i will check in the morning and before bed.

I hooked up Roll Call today and will start to read HOF stories.

I like the advice you bros gave me so far. I am pumped to kick this addiction.

Can't wait to know you all more and bless you for helping us newbs follow you down the path of a longer, healthier life.

Just worry about today my friend. This ^^^ will be a great milestone, but each day is a victory. We quit one day at a time. 7 days is no joke. If you made it 7 you can damn sure make it 8.

Click around a little when you post roll...not just your own Quit Group, but check out a few others months and years. Then think, every one of those bad ass quitters knows exactly what you're going through. Nobody gets free of the Nic Bitch for the asking. You have to earn it. And every one of those folks is earning their freedom ONE DAY AT A TIME.

Welcome to the Quit!

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Congratulations on a great decision! It gets hard at times, but the method here is proven if you follow it. You've gotten some great advice from some strong quitters already, and you seem to have a good orientation in your approach, so give it your all now! You'll be earning your freedom back-- and if you are like me, you probably don't even know all that means just yet. It gets amazing, and I"m only a few months ahead of you! Let's get this thing!

There doesn't appear to be anything "real" about his quit.
