Title: Day 1 Scared to Death
Post by: bryce_hipp on November 29, 2012, 05:58:00 PM
So, its day 1. I've been dippin 1 to 2 cans a day for 12 years. Yea I know, a little overboard with the dippin thing. I tend to be that way tho. My only thing is, I'm bout scared to death about quitting if its anything like today. But I'm even more scared to NOT quit. I'm a musician and was a Vocal Performance major in college and I've played and sang all over the country. I cant lose my voice. I cant lose my face. I cant lose my life. But I feel like I'm losing my mind obsessing over how bad this is going to be. You guys that have made it through the first week or so.... is it as bad as they say??? I actually just quit a drug called Opana cold turkey from a back injury and they told me that was like quitting heroin and I believe it. Only thing is... I've read studies that say Nicotine is as addictive as heroin. So... am I in for that same ride I just went through with Opana??

Your quit decision MUST be 100% your decision. Anything short of that sets you up for failure by allowing your addict brain to blame a given situation as reason for you to go back to the can. Anyone who tells you its easy is full of it. Yes it will suck but you need to make up your mind that your going to sac up and nail the door shut on the Nic Bitch.

What to Expect When You Quit Dipping (http://www.killthecan.org/yourquit/what.asp)

I dipped for 35 years and used the fake herbal dip to help with the oral fixation at first. Here is a list of Smokeless non-tobacco alternative (http://www.killthecan.org/yourquit/alternatives.asp)

We "Post Roll Call" daily ( our promise to ourselves and to our brothers not to use nicotine today)- We DO THIS DAILY
Make posting roll the first step of your daily proactive quit.Post Roll every day or communicate with someone and have them post via text, email or call. Get as many number of your group as you can and use them frequently. Keep in touch with your quit brothers. Send them a PM, text or call every few days just to keep an open line of communication. Give them your email address. Make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to go a day without several people contacting you all day if you don't post roll.

Where to post roll call: PRE MAR HOF 2013 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=7445)

Do exactly what cbird says. He is a gladiator and knows how to quit Everyday. He got me this far - 94 days

Commit 100%. For the next several days, the thought of dipping will be constantly on your mind. You will think, sleep, breathe, and eat thinking about it. This is "the suck". Embrace the suck. Know that this is your mind and body building strength as you detox and the poison leaves your body.

It can be scary, but embrace it, be proud of it, own it.

Read all you can on this site and reach out to your quit brothers on this site.

Check your "Inbox (1)"

Welcome and damn glad to be quit with you.

You're chasing the wrong rabbit Alice. The question is not is it harder to quit than heroin or Opana. The question you should be asking is it harder to quit than it is to be subjected to chemo, radiation, and repeated facial dissection.

The answer is no, it is infinitely easier to quit dipping.

Your 1 to 2 can a day is nothing special here. You're far from the biggest user to walk these halls. Bigger addicts than you have quit here and if they can do it so can you. There is nothing to fear in quitting, you don't have anything to lose and everything to gain. There is some temporary discomfort in quitting, it isn't anything that thousands before you haven't dealt with. Craving nicotine won't kill you, despite how it feels on day one. I promise.

Your in the right place. Read all you can. Post roll call daily. Welcome aboard.

We were all skeered. I can guarantee you that it will suck. I can't give a time-frame. It will suck until it doesn't.

However, there is some sunshine and lollipops because I can also guarantee you that when it no longer sucks, you'll be feeling better than you ever have in your life. You'll no longer be a slave to a can of weeds. I promise you that freedom is worth the price of admission. Even if the stuff wouldn't kill you (and it will), it'd be worth telling nic to get bent just to live without having to measure how much dip you had left before going to work, going home, going on a trip to the boonies, going into that 8 hour meeting where you intend to ninja dip and spit in your coffee cup, etc. Being quit is the shit.

If I can do it, you can damn sure do it. Welcome aboard. Yell if you need anything related to quitting. If you'd like some ghey chatting to keep your mind off nicotine, yell at Cbird. Or Coach Steve. His ghey chats always calm me down.

bryce....calm the fuck down man. You're over thinking this. Just quit, one day at a time, the rest will follow suit. It's not no roket syense or ani thang. Is it gonna suck? You g'damn right it's gonna suck, but the suck makes it worth it, makes your remember day 1-3. You've been poisoning yourself for the past 12 years, you didn't think it'd be easy did you? As for your voice, I'm far from a professional, but I do pick a little guitar and play and I found as my quit grow bigger, my voice actually got better. So there's a benefit man

It's a simple concept here, post roll (make promise), keep promise, repeat. You can do that? If you need to vent or let off steam, go to chat or post in your group or in here! If you need anything you send me a PM, let Bruce hear it. Need a phone number? Send me a PM, let Bruce hear it. Need some good old fashioned take my mind of shit sexting, send me a PM, let Bruce see it...too far? Whatever, read my quote, 'stop being a pussy and quit'. It's time to take back your life

Hey Bryce, will it be easy? No, but you have all ready kicked one addiction and that should help.

You asked for some input from some new guys, thats me, 8 days quit. I wouldn't want to go through the last week again, which helps keep me focused on remaining quit.

Upper right hand corner is a link to 'LIVE CHAT' take a look in there occasionally, it is not manned 24/7 but when there are people there they have always been helpful, understanding and occasionally even humorous.

One day at a time brother, you can do it. I will quit with you.

Steve

Bryce,

You already have some of the most bad-assed quitters on here giving you advice - and all the right advice, I might add. SM said it very well - everything you fear is NOTHING compared to what you will have to go through if you don't quit. Trust me, I've worked with many a cancer patient who have gone through living hell only to still lose their battle in the end. This isn't meant to scare you, it is to give you the facts so that you can make your own educated decision, because as CBird said, this has to be ABOUT you, FOR you, and COMPLETELY YOUR CHOICE.

Quitting isn't a habit. Quitting is a way of life. Posting roll needs to be your new addiction.

I haven't used this analogy in a long time, but I will dust it off and use it once again here:

The word, QUIT, by definition, is a verb. Verbs are action words. For you to be QUIT, you must be active in the effort of being QUIT. You cannot be passive and be QUIT.

QUIT [kwit] verb, quit
1. to stop, cease, or discontinue
2. to depart from; leave (a place or person(or a nasty Nic biotch))
3. to give up or resign; let go; relinquish: He quit his previous beliefs about how to successfully stop using nicotine.
4. to release one's hold of

That means, stay involved here. Post roll. Chat it up on the forums and get involved in posting roll in other classes. Read intros and reach out to those posting there.

Give as much to the site as you take from it. Strength build when muscles are worked out Work out this quit muscle and help spot for the rest of us.

Reach out to others, get phone numbers for texting or calling. Make new friends and brothers who will hold you to your word, and you hold them to theirs. That's how this place works. That's how you QUIT.

PM me or any of these other guys in here if you need anything.
