Title: Finally quit 10/16/2011
Post by: misty on October 17, 2011, 11:42:00 AM
After 16 years of dipping and smoking I am finally done with this crap! I'm tired of being too scared to go to the dentist because the bump that came up in my lip may be cancer, tired of the abcess teeth swollen gums, etc... I am a mother of two wonderful boys and have an awesome husband, who dips. I am hoping that he will quit with me, he is finally starting to cut down and chewing gum. This is something that he has to want to do so I am not pushing him. These past few days have been hell with all the withdrawls, lack of energy, upset stomach,etc... But I know it is worth it. I have been coming to this site for a few weeks now and reading some of the posts on here have helped me alot. Thanks for all ya'll do, if it weren't for this website I am not so sure I could put cigarrettes and dip behind me.

You CAN do this Misty. In addition to the hundreds of male quitters here we have quit a few female quitters too. This will not be easy, but the enormous amount of success here at KTC is proof that it can be done. No buckle down and do this. Post roll every morning and keep that promise for 24hrs. Wake up the next day and do it all over again. Do not think in terms of forever, that is way to much to comprehend. Quit one day at a time and you will be successful.

Way to go, Misty! You can do this. Worry about yourself first, then deal with hubby. Post roll every day. Make that daily promise. Don't worry about tomorrow or forever. That's not how we roll here. Spend a lot of time on KTC. We'll help save your life one day at a time.

Welcome!

Misty,
You have made a bold, brave and life altering decision that you will never regret. I urge you to remember how you feel about dipping/smoking right at this second. Write it down, and whenever you get thoughts of caving in your head, go back to that and remember how shitty those last puffs and dips felt. Always remember, and lean on the baddest quitters in the world here.

Great decision Misty. I recommend you send Chewife a PM (personal message) and ask for her number. You two have a lot in common with kids and dipping husbands. Chewife is on a strong day 45 quit in the December group.

Please do not hesitate asking myself or anyone else for help. The next few days will suck big time but it sure does get better after that.

Out-fucking-standing, Misty!!! Normally, you can't talk like that in front of a lady...but on this site, all bets are off. This site isn't about being polite, it is about being real...being honest...being better people.

The next few days, weeks, even months will suck. Sorry. But soon you will look back at the person you were compared to the person you have become and...the feeling is overwhelming. No longer living as a secret slave to Nicotine. You will kick Nicotine's ass one day at a time for the rest of your days!

Ok, so this is my 4th day without put nasty shit in my lip. EVERYTHING is pissing me off!! I go onto facebook to get my mind off everything and all I can think about is smacking the dogshit out of a few of those dumbasses on there. I cant stop eating, I use to eat maybe once a day. I am eating every minute of every day now. WTF? My husband has really cut down and says he wants to quit also, very proud of him. He's down to about 2 dips after he gets home, now when I see his can or see him putting it in I get sick instead of want to do the same. The hell I've been thru in the past 4 days is not worth throwing away to put that nasty shit back in my mouth or puff on another cancer stick!

I'm with you Misty! I get easily irritated at everything!

I just keep telling myself it's the withdrawal - it's not who I am and it will pass in time. I take some deep breaths - hold it - and exhale s-l-o-w-l-y.

Do it with me.

The irritabilty and other fun things will pass. Drink lots and lots of water.

Tell hubby to throw his shit in the trash and quit with his wife. There is no cutting down.

Congrats on your decision! Now just make sure to keep it up.

Why is your Hubby desiring to go through withdrawal every single day? Instead of prolonging his agony he could just get it over with.

Hubby says he needs to prepare hisself to quit, idk. This is how he did it before but it really wasn't quitting, it was just stopping for a month. Maybe it will be for longer since I have quit also. Water is about all I can drink right now.lol Pepsis are burning my mouth. Davo the deep breaths help alot. Having two hyper boys, one is a teenager, I have to do the breathing excercises alot.

"Preparing" causes too much anxiety, which just amplifies an addict's need for another fix. Whsii and magnum9 are both right. We all know the taper-down method rarely is successful, because most of us tried it. I sincerely hope your hubby will listen to some of the advice here and quit with you. It's not fair to you or to himself to prolong the agony. The rage and constant eating are completely normal. We all went through it. The rage will pass soon enough, and you'll find an awesome personality that you haven't seen in many years. When you get a handle on your new nic-free life, then you can address the eating issue. For now, just let it be.

These are exerps from Joel Spitzer's book on quitting nictotine addiction. Which is a free download floating around the internet.

Spitzer has found that most successful quitters fall into one of three groups: (1) those who awoke one day and were suddenly sick and tired of smoking, who threw their cigarettes over their shoulder and never looked back; (2) those given an ultimatum by their doctor - "quit smoking or drop dead"; and (3) those who became sick with a cold, the flu or some other illness, went a few days without smoking and then decided to try to keep it going.

Amazingly, the websites of Philip Morris (PM USA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the American Cancer Society (ACS), the American Lung Association (ALA), and the Mayo Clinic (MC) all either expressly or impliedly tell smokers the same message: the key to successful quitting is to not quit smoking today, but instead to pick some future date and then plan around it.

The leading CDC quit smoking page not only tells smokers to "set a quit date." It then tells them that as part of their advance planning that they need to go out and buy "medication and use it correctly," primarily over-the-counter (OTC) nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) products such as the nicotine gum, nicotine patch and nicotine lozenge.

What all of the above websites fail to tell quitters is that during 2006 almost all successful long-term quitters (80 to 90%) will again quit entirely on their own without resort to any product or procedure. None will be told that almost all successful quitters are nicotine-clean within hours, not weeks or months.

On an average, a person is x2.6 more successful to quit for atleast 6 months or more on a spontaneous choice to quit and quit cold turkey. As apposed to those who plan or take NRT's.
