Title: I need some help
Post by: JeffinRaleigh on June 09, 2014, 10:45:00 AM
I decided after 30 years of dipping it's time to beat the addiction. This site looks like a great resource, but kind of hard to navigate. Can anyone tell me how you join a quit group. From what I gather that's the important thing to do.

Thanks, Jeff

Welcome in Jeff. Yes, you need to join a quit group. This is the glue that holds us together and keeps us accountable.

I need to know one thing first... are you quit now?

Your quit date shows, "Father's Day 6/15/2014".

AppleJack, thanks for responding. Yes I picked Father's Day as my quit date so I could have a little bit of time gathering all my help tools, getting my mind right, and weaning off a bit.
That's my plan!

Jeffin, please explain the 6/15 quit date. Let me throw this at you - dump all your chew today, and be 6 days quit for Father's Day. What a gift to yourself whether you're a dad or not!

Yeah... we don't do tomorrow. We quit now. Given the chance the addict in you will find yet another excuse to keep using. We've seen it over and over again.

Tomorrow always breeds another tomorrow. Break your addict cycle now, grit your teeth, and quit cold turkey. Weaning yourself off only prolongs the pain.

How do you know that there won't be one dip between now and Sunday that turns healthy skin cells into cancerous skin cells? Stop playing with your life... take it back and quit now.

No weaning off, Jeff. Not here. Here we quit hard. Cold Turkey. Stone cold. There is no weaning. If you are still using nicotine in ANY form, e cig, dip, chew, cig, cigar, pipe, etc., then you can NOT post roll. Posting roll is your promise and your word to all of us that you will NOT use nicotine in any form for that day for ANY reason whatsoever. No excuses.

So, are you still using nicotine??

Uh yeah about gathering all your help tools.... negatory good buddie. You have all the help tools you need right here. Getting your mind right? Nope, that ain't ever gonna happen, you are an addict, addicts like to think they have their mind right. If we had our minds right, we wouldn't be addicted to nicotine. Uh and about this weaning off shit....IT DON'T WORK. So... you my man are batting 0, that's a big goose egg.

This is what you need to do: If you're married, ask the wife to go to the petri dish and get your balls. Next, you need to get pissed off, #1 because you just had to ask for your balls :ermm: and #2 because you hate that nicotine bitch. Now take that can of dip and crush it, shoot it or however else that you want to tell it to eff off. Next.... hold on to those balls because the next 3 days are going to be a living hell. There isn't no sugar coating it. You're going to find out how well "that mind is not right." Good chances you will hallucinate , you're probably going to shit uncontrollably for a good day, if someone so much as says hello to you, you'll want to rip their head off their shoulders, your teeth will probably hurt like you won't believe... I'm sure that I'm missing something. And your asking yourself, "is it worth it?" You're damn right it is.

Realize this, there is NOTHING more important to you than quitting nicotine right now. No bullshit excuses, nothing should stand in the way of this quit. If there is one thing that you understand, understand this, you are an ADDICT. You will be an addict until the day that you die. PERIOD! Good luck  welcome to KTC.

Jeff - Haven't seen you post roll in September so you must not be quit yet. Go ahead and commit and jump on the train. Short term pain, long term freedom, one day at a time. I am 36 days quit with no regrets. Take your can, flush it, rinse it out, throw it in the trash and be quit. Then post roll and take back control.

Jeff -

Welcome and congrats on a great decision. As others have said, when you quit you're a part of a quit group which will be your "home" as it pertains to the boards here.  The quit groups are based on your quit group (so that you're hanging around with folks at a similar point in their quit). With a quit date of 6/15 you'll be a part of the September 2014 quit group as that's when you'll hit the "Hall of Fame" of 100 days quit. topic/10291235/ (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/10291235/)

Also (as other have pointed out) why wait? The sooner you quit, the sooner you won't have nicotine flowing through your system. If you quit today, you'll be 100% nicotine free by the time Father's Day rolls around (it takes 72 hours for the drug to works its way out of your system). Talk about an AMAZING Father's Day present?

While picking a quit date is certainly a viable way to go, the problem with them is 99/100 they don't stick. http://blog.killthecan.org/2009/06/53-d ... -get-back/ (http://blog.killthecan.org/2009/06/53-days-ill-never-get-back/)

IF you're going to go that route, I'd IMPLORE you to make sure it sticks. The better route (in my opinion) is to quit today. Buckle that chin strap and get ready for a hate filled ride of your life. Believe it or not, it'll all be worth it.

Chewie

Yo Jeff, I just seen you lurking, reading all the posts. Let me guess, while you were reading you probably had some of that disgusting shit in your lip, huh? If I were you, I'd just wait until the 21st to quit, that's the 1st day of summer. There is no sense in wasting a very good fathers day on quitting chew. That's way too much stress on a guy. Then again, the 1st day of summer is on a Saturday. You don't want to start half way through your weekend, you had better wait until the 4th of July that way it'll be a real nice long holiday weekend. What do you say Jeff? I say... MAN THE FUCK UP! You come on here with that bullshit about quitting in 7 days? You'll lose credibility here very fast. Quit NOW!

I see you're still lurking

Dog piled? How about dog shit? There you go again, "I guess I signed up too early". See you made another post without saying your quit, there's more credibility right down the shitter. Do us a favor, get the fuck out of here. We don't coddle to anyone. Come see us when you quit.

Jeffin,

Find a intro called "Lenten Quitter", it still should be on the first page. That is my intro. I came on here with a nicotine patch, and was "dog piled". I said fuck these guys, removed my name from roll, and like an ass chose to poison my body with a piece of plastic for 30 more days until I took it off. What did I lose? 30 days of not being poisoned, and the trust of some bad ass quitters in here.

I have now been nicotine free for 67 days. Believe what you read in here, the freedom for nicotine is incredible. I used Lent as a crutch to quit, why use Father's Day? Do it today, and on Sunday you'll have the biggest smile on your face. I sent you my number if you want to chat tonight, trust in the KTC method and you'll never regret it.

Jeff, the guy above me disagree about the color of the letter M, but he is an inspiration to me, and a bad ass quitter. I sent you my digits to call tonight, and haven't got a ring or a text. You wanna go the good cop route, and talk things over, or deal with the real deal no bullshit quitters? I am a real deal bullshit quitter, but still have the marshmellow fluff of a pre Hall of Fame brother. You got an hour and a half before my middle aged ass doesn't give a shit.

There's no such thing as the perfect quit. All you need to do is put the can down and come in here and post your day 1. You are Jeff in Raleigh. I am Joe in Raleigh. I'm 37 days into it and tried the plan thing after dipping for 25 years. Stocked up on patches and nic gum and spent 2 weeks prior to my quit trying the find the best method of patches/gum until finally on a Monday morning put the can down/patches off and made it through day 1. Were the first few days sucky? Hell yeah but I'm typing these words to you as a free man. I don't miss anything about dipping and love paying at the pump without having to go inside. I'm stronger, have more confidence in myself and love the road I'm on now.

I think the fear of going from full nic to no nic has you scared else you wouldn't be going down the wean path. Point is you can do it if you choose to. Having first hand experience of the sucky first days will lift your chances of long term quit success. You need to read this when you log on next time and flush the stuff, post a day 1. Even though you think you know what this site is about, you have no idea the level of support you will get.

Flush and post. Stop opening the patch boxes and return them like I did.

After my experience on here yesterday I decided it's time. I flushed all the open cans I had down the toilet and gave away every thing not opened.

So here I am. I would normally be trying to chug the last bit of hot coffee so I could load up my lip.

Ha Ha. See there, we shamed your ass into it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Glad to see you here Jeff. Welcome, hold on for the next few days, it'll be a hell 'ov a ride. If you have family, do NOT take this out on them. They did nothing to put that poison in your mouth.

Congrats Jeff. I need you had it in you. Must have been the incessant PM'ing huh??? Anyway. I'm quit with you today because you chose to put yourself and your family ahead of any more poison. The next few days are going to be tough but keep grinding and read everything you can on the site when you're having a tough go. My suggestion on where to start after our roll group is Words of Wisdom. Lots of bad ass quitters have posted snippets and stories from their quits that show not only that this is possible, but with the right amount of gumption and following the KTC rules, it's likely.

Welcome again and you have my number. Use it any time.

Day 1
That's the best news I will hear today. Great decision!!!

Don't worry about getting confused on navigating the site. It's a right of passage to fuck up role call at first. You will get the hang of it soon.

Weldome!!!

Day 1
Jeff that's good news. The one thing you will not hear anyone on this site write is that it was a mistake to quit...or to use Kill the Can to do it. Life is going to be rocky over the next stretch but it will get easier. You can do this. It was great to see you man up this morning.

That's the way! Now two things will help you succeed, assuming you already get it that you have to post roll and keep your word daily. 1. Learn all you can by reading here- the welcome center, other quitters intro threads, the article linked in my signature below, etc. and 2. Make friends here- create your own network of accountability and support. Reach out to others , get phone numbers, communicate here so people get to know you.

If I can do this after being a slave to cope for as long, so can you! Welcome to your chance at freedom! You gonna get it?

Read everything on the forum. HOF Speeches, Words of Wisdom, Intros, etc.

Don't be afraid to post and send out some private messages to exchange numbers. Build yourself a network. We are brothers and we are at war with nicotine.

We are all the same. We all sat in our cars and spit in a bottle. We all stayed up late so we could get our fixes. We all spit on our dicks as we took a shit. We all hid uppers at a funeral. We all did all that shit. We are all the same.

Whatever it takes to keep that shit out your lip, DO IT.

First day for me I had to knock 15 minute chunks off at a time, then another 15. Sleep will be tough first few especially if giving up dip and alcohol which is the right move. Find you a sleep aid of choice like benedryl or celestial seasonings sleepy time tea. My wife swears by them.

The Sleepytime tea is legit. I've used it in my quit and sleeping more soundly than when I dipped. I heard about it on here, I think from J2B and the stuff is a gold mine. Highly recommend it.

I feel like it's actually getting harder. Day1 was real bad, Day 2 was miserable, and Day 3 has started with lots of anxiety and confusion. My only hope is the 6 pack of Hooch I order comes in today. I ordered it a couple days ago! I don't usually curse, but I just want to yell FUCK!!! FUCK!!

Toothpicks, seeds, fireballs, anything but dip. You got this, and by tomorrow or Saturday the worst will be over. Day 3 was so bad I cried - twice.

If you get desperate, Walmart sells some fake stuff, think it's Smokey Mountain. Do whatever it takes to make it through the day. Read every corner of this site once things settle down for you after work and dinner. I quit with you today. I scream FUCK loudly over and over with you today.

Day 3 was awful for me too, and I will be honest, it was probably a good week before I was back to my senses. Hang in there, it will get better. There will come a point in which you will be tempted to dip, but you will remember all of this crap you are going through and be able to turn away from the nic. Good luck and stay quit!

Jeff,
I'm quit as of yesterday. About 36 hours ago. I too dipped for 30 years. I feel your pain but we are going to succeed. Stay close to these folks. I'm glad I never mentioned weening when I completed my intro. I was going to wait until Monday but now look, your 3 days and I'm 1.5 into it.
I'm going to have to learn the "constructive" reaming skills the others have. They work but right now calm is what I'm aiming for.

Stay strong!!!!

Jeff, I just got word that it's too difficult for you to post roll everyday? It's odd because of the times that I've checked in with you, you never mentioned that to me. I'll tell you what Jeff, you had some serious quitters that posted here in your intro, gave you their support and gave you their word. Here's the deal, if you can convince all of us that your way of thinking is superior to ours, then you can just post when you want to. Sound good to you?
