Title: Doing it right this time
Post by: Brad in LA on October 28, 2015, 12:55:00 AM
Hello all. What a great site, I've been looking around for a resource like this, and I am so lucky to have found this. PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND!

I've been dipping for 20 years. Reached a point where I am just taken aback at how much INSANITY I show in maintaining this stupid habit. I've attempted to quit numerous times before, but never really gave this decision the importance it requires. I'm doing it right this time because I am truly sick of this disgusting habit. This shit does nothing for me! No buzz! Nothing. All it is is a drain of my time, my money, and my life... and it puts a wedge between myself and things I want in my life.

I started this habit as a kid, but I'm a grown man now. Time to put this shit away.

Today I took the first half of an online motivational seminar, and tomorrow morning I take the last half, which prepares me mentally to QUIT. I've actually been preparing for this quit date for the last week, been keeping hydrated, avoiding alcohol, started hitting the gym, and started cleaning all the shit up around my home. I want to quit. I want to close the door behind me, move forward, and leave this habit in the dust. I look forward to the community of others who are in the same boat, and exchanging notes, feelings, experiences about this journey.

Well let's do it! Dump whatever cans you have left and quit now. Post roll in the February group here and change your life.

Listen to the rest of that seminar tomorrow. It seems to me that you have already made the decision so why delay?

Brad, jump in. It will suck at first, but it gets better in ways you can't imagine.

As you motivate, bear in mind nicotine is an addiction, not a habit. Quit is simple, though very difficult.

Why not use that seminar as a good way to start life free from slavery to nicotine? Dump your tin when you wake, post roll in February, then get motivated!

You got this!
First and foremost you're an addict just like the rest of us. Jump in with both feet here, get them firmly planted and stay for the long haul. Remember it's no habit, it's an addiction. A habit is picking your nose, an addiction can kill you! This site will help you more than 12 seminars, go ahead finish your seminar but post roll today , sometimes we don't ever see tomorrow, tomorrow sometimes ends up 10 year's later. Today my friend and I quit with you!

This ^^^. You will be amazed at what you find here. It's not just swapping campfire stories. It's real life accountability and support to give you the tools to fend off nicotine. When you need a helping hand, you'll get it. When you need a kick in the ass, you'll get it. Like Drome said, jump into the deep end and get this party started Brad. No better day to quit than today, just ask the thousands of us that have already posted our promise to quit today.

I just want to echo what others have said. Reading your intro, I see habit habit habit, it should say addict, addict, addict. Realize that you are addicted and battle the addiction. Look at what the Mayo Clinic says:

"Nicotine produces physical and mood-altering effects in your brain that are temporarily pleasing. These effects make you want to use tobacco and lead to dependence. At the same time, stopping tobacco use causes withdrawal symptoms, including irritability and anxiety."

Don't worry, habit will leave your vocabulary.

Brad.....
Engage. Quit thinking and start acting.
Hoping you get back in here.
And stay in here.. Dont post and ghost.
Post, read, learn, share struggles, successes.
You can't quit alone....if so you wouldn't have posted last night.
Get on sight... Stay on sight.
Replace your time dipping with time here on KTC.
You dont need motivation.
Addicts need action and accountability.
You need to act.
You need to be accountable.
You need us...we need you.
It's not hard after you start.
For 20 years you have escaped.
The next trigger may be a bullet.
Your dead..... And WHY?
A lie?
Post roll.
Make your promise for today.
Dont ever think about tomorrow.

I quit with you TODAY!

Just Flush your shit and QUIT! Otherwise you are just preparing for a day that will never come. Fuck tomorrow, or whenever you are planning to quit. Your addict mind is going to keep telling you to wait for the right day, the right motivation, the right zen fucking moment. It's typical nicotine bitch bullshit. We know because we've been there. Quit today brother, for yourself.

All you have to do is decide to Quit right now. Post your promise here. (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/11383298/25/#new)

Be the new you and quit today. Just decide to do it and stop. Then focus on everything wonderful in your life and all the successes you have had all your life. Those successes will show you that you can accomplish anything. Including this.

Apparently the second half of that motivational seminar weren't quite the magic pill you were hoping for. Maybe all us that jumped in and told you to get started right that second were right? Tomorrow always sounds great because tomorrow is always a day away. It takes some fortitude to quit TODAY, just ask the thousands that do so every day on KTC.

Planning a future quit date is not planning. It's STALLING.

Take a page out of Nike's book and just do it.

Quit 3 days ago after 20 years of dip/chew. Gotta take a physical for new life insurance and decided it was time to quit. First thing my insurance agent asked me "Do You use Tobacco anymore?" He has been hunting with me and at the camp....he knew already that I used tobacco. Been meaning to quit anyway and been telling the wife "Yea I don't do that anymore". Only to find something to go fix out on the boat dock so i'd be far enough away so she couldnt see me sneak one in. She has probably watched me many times and just fumed while not saying anything that often. Hasn't been too bad. Sunflower seeds and Big box of Raisins have helped so far. Just been putting a big handful of raisins in my cheek like I have been doing with tobacco for 20 years.

Great choice, Brad! I'm quitting with you today, too - and we're in the same Future HOF group.

Sounds corny, but in the service we had a saying that I've been using every day, all day - "Mind over Matter - if you don't mind, it don't matter"

I don't mind all the shit my body  addicted self throw at me, so it don't matter - I am FREE

Congratulations brad! You just possibly saved your own life. Get numbers, read, get involved with your quit group, spend as much time on ktc as you can for the first week or so but mostly post roll early and often! It's gonna suck till it don't but you have the right mindset to beat this! Try to stay positive and remember this is your quit own it! Damn proud to be quit with you! Quit on!
