Welcome! Good to see you here! We've all been where you are. Most of us have, "Taken a pause" (tried to quit) in the past before coming here. This is an awesome place. The support that I have received from other people, other nicotine addicts, that I didn't even know, has been amazing. If you are committed to quit, this site, and the community that is built around this site, will help you see yourself through the craves, the dreams, and the bitchy attitude, to freedom. Since this is your fourth day, I believe you are in the July Quit Group (that's the month in which you will hit 100 days of QUIT). Go post roll and stay quit!!!

I quit with you today!
I just posted this on someone elses intro, but if you haven't seen it, here it is. Day 4 you should be nicotine free. Step outside and take a look around. Everything should look different to you. Nicotine clouds our minds. It makes us feel and think differently. Your mind is free and now it has to learn things all over again. Welcome to the suck, but it is so worth it.
Learn to post roll. It will help you stay quit. You will be in the july group.
i "stopped" using several times. Never made it through one day without ktc. Now I'm "quit "70 days and counting. Lets do it right this time. Make your quit the most important thing in your life and everyone in your life well benefit. Start by posting roll. Top left read welcome center. Posting roll will be found there.

Welcome. Glad you've made this decision.
Get back in here and tell us a bit about yourself. That is key. Post up some particulars about your addiction and your quit. Folks who see similarities will become pillars of your quit.
My first question is, of course: "U a firefighter?". Your screen name seems to indicate that, but I could be wrong.
Send a message if you need anything.

Yes I am a firefighter . My addiction has been for about 25 years and it is finally time to end it. I have pretty much dipped Kodiak the whole time. It definitely isnt going to be easy!

Efd your right it won't be easy but it will be worth it. I see you've been thinking about this for a long time by your joining date. There is always a reason to quit but also reasons not to quit. No better time than today to quit! Quitting every day works.

efd,
Congrats and a great choice. But just to be clear, you can't end your addiction. Once and addict, always an addict. But you can control it. And you can end your use of Kodiak.
I don't want to sound nit-picky. But the more you understand about addiction, the better your resolve to control it.
And don't get me wrong...I am pumped you're here!!! 4 (actually 5 now) days is HUGE. You've gotten off to a great start. Keep it up, brother. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Nicotine use is rampant in the fire service, and it wasn't easy quitting in that environment. It can be done, though. The couple of guys on my crew that still use nicotine gave me some grief, but they don't say a word anymore. They know we're (my captian quit too) daily conquering something that still has them enslaved. I get a lot of pride from that fact.
On a bright note: You know that misery you endure when you hurriedly spit out a dip during a call so that you can immediately don SCBA for an extended period? Yeah, that burning-throat hell that breaks your concentration the whole time until you can hit rehab for a drink. The leftover bits you missed and the contaminated saliva you have to swallow for 30 minutes or so while you work feverishly. You never have to suffer that shit again.
Pay real close attention to what Bean posted below. He makes an excellent point.

This isn't the place to do it. Go on over to the April 17 quit group: topic/30106725/ (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/30106725/) and post roll. Share what you've shared here, admit that you've "stopped" before and caved. Post a Day 1 and be a man of your word.
Also: one word we pretty much strike from the lexicon is "habit." Nicotine isn't a habit, anymore than Heroin is a habit. It's a full blown addiction. Maybe getting that fact front and center will make the difference this time.
