Hi all,
Well I should start by saying, I started chewing tobacco at the age of 14. I chewed for roughly 25 years, at least 1 can per day. I even wound up smoking for 15 years as well because I tried smoking to quit chewing. Nothing I could do ever seemed to work.
Then, one day I just decided that I want to be around for my children. However, I still didn't have the willpower to just quit. That is when I knew I would need some aids and this is how I quit chewing. If I can quit, I think anyone has a good chance of quitting as well. I hope this technique works for those of you who really want to quit as well. By the way, I have been chew free for almost 11 months now.
I knew that I would never be able to break the habit or the addiction on my own. So instead of even trying, I simply replaced them. I started by trying out some "fake chew" flavors. For me, it was Smokey Mountain Classic that seemed to work well enough to do the job. It is no Copenhagen, but it suffices. So, now that I found some herbal snuff to help with the mental addiction, I decided on using Nicotine patches for the physical addiction.
I purchased the Walmart brand patches, and went with the full 10 week system with full intention of following it to a T. I also purchased some nicotine losenges for those especially rough days, but only used two of them over the course of the 10 weeks. I would put on my patch in the morning and I wore it 24 hours until the next patch. I never even tried to take it off before bed, knowing that I would have cravings that way.
By the end of the 10 weeks, I was weened off nicotine. I still have the mental addiction 11 months later as I still chew the Smokey Mountain herbal snuff, but I figure it is way better than chewing tobacco. My dentist even commented on how much better my gums look now. Someday I will ween myself off the Smokey Mountain but for now, I still enjoy the chew, and I know I can do it without damaging my body like I did with chewing tobacco.
Now that you know this method worked for me, try it! The first week, even with the patches is still not pleasant. However, having the fake chew and the replacement nicotine really helps you change the habit and will ween you off the nicotine if followed correctly!

You know what works? Throw the shit away. Post roll. Quit for today. Repeat tomorrow.
All that other stuff is horseshit.

I agree with my fellow brothers in quit.
If you are so successful at quitting, why did you even come looking for this place? We believe in quitting cold turkey here. I for one don't believe in sucking on a nipple when you are trying to quit the whole tit. It didn't work for me and there are many here because it didn't work for them.

I sincerely hope you are free from Nicotine, which is what you are addicted to. Patches just delay the inevitable that you have to STOP PUTTING THAT SHIT IN YOUR SYSTEM!
I'm happy the patch worked for you, but for the thousands of guys here it was simpler than that:
1. Post roll every day.
2. Keep your WORD.
3. Repeat.
Patches....pppfffftttt....weak sauce.

All nicotine gum made me wanna do was keep ingesting nicotine. Amazingly, that's how it is for any drug you're addicted to. No easy way out. The only thing that got me quit was to stop ingesting nicotine and posting roll.

I am addicted to nicotine and always will be. I am not cured and everyday is a victory or it could be my demise. This is how I have stayed nic free for the last 147 days.
I finally wanted a life free of being a slave to the can. I wanted to quit.
I found KTC and they gave me the final push to quit again.
The method of quit cold turkey. I was a ninja dipper and so all the herbal replacement wasn't what I wanted. I didn't even want the appearance of dip. As an addict, I didn't want to replace one habit with another so I quit alcohol cold turkey as well.
KTC educated me, supported me but I also engaged and supported others.
They don't pay be but I endorse this site because they paid me in saving my integrity, walking me to freedom from vice and gave me the tools to win.
330 days quit is very good but if he would have quit cold turkey, he would be well over a year quit I am sure.
Also, be wary of people who promote weening as a great option. This guy could be salesman and stocks Walmart's with nicotine patches etc. Addicts never do well with dimmer switches. It's either on or off.
Why would someone promote weening?

Manning-up and posting roll is how we quit around here. Not saying it's the ONLY way but it sure has been working for me and a bunch of others around here.
Miles - 518 and feeling great
As long as I post roll, I'll never forget that I'm an addict.
That's good stuff you wrote there MThomas...

While I'm glad when anyone kicks the can to the curb, it's hard to sell ice to eskimos. We've got a method here we all like, it might have been apparent to you if you had read first before marketing...

More than 90% of all long term successful quits are cold turkey.
There are no studies on the use of the patch for quitting chew.
The patch is just a different package for the same drug
Weaning from nicotine keeps you in a state of withdrawal
If you were successful quitting with the patch, it was success in spite of the patch not because of the patch

That is when I knew I would need some aids and this is how I quit chewing.
I would never recommend getting AIDS, that might be about as bad as cancer.

This is absurdity. Here's how I quit : I stopped buying Skoal and cramming it in my face. It's worked fabulously for 75 days so far and I'm confident it will continue to work. You see, I decided I wanted to quit .....so I did. All this mumbo jumbo about patches and gum and other crutches is silliness in my opinion. I see too much of this nonsense around here for my liking....I understand everyone is going to have different methodology but I can assure you that you're quit is no more difficult than mine...or the next guy's or the guy after him. If this worked for you, then I'm glad. I hope you continue to be quit. I wouldn't know, because you are not on the spreadsheet for November. My advice to you friend is to start posting roll. My advice to any new quitter reading through these intro's is NOT to follow this route of quitting. There are pitfalls and trapdoors littered throughout. Just man up and quit. People do it here everyday. Lots of em.

This is the biggest crock of shit I have seen here.
You pansy ass fucking clown. We quit here. That's it. No fucking around. No dreams, hopes or wishes. We quit. Why don't you slip off those frilly pink panties and see if those raisins are present between those ballerina legs of yours.
This fucking kills me. I just want to commend the rest of the steel balled fuckers that frequent this place. This flomo is not you. You men took a look in the mirror and said I want to change. You said I am not the man I see. You make the conscious step towards making yourself that man. That is powerful. I don't fucking care if you're day 1 or day 1000. The decision to make change in yourself and executing is fucking powerful.

agreed, anything that has nic in it is shit. gum, patches, etc... cold turkey like a Mofo. It'll give you self confidence. Those crutches don't work, believe me I no. Last year I went 8 months without chewing, but had patches and gum. Guess what I caved. Now I'm nic free 1 week. Wow what a difference!
